Fun fact, genuine Anderson Power Product SB50's are rated for a constant 120 amp current (wire to wire, not wire to PCB) the 50 amp rating is actually for a Hot Disconnect if you need to interrupt the current. I have had an air compressor pulling 95 amps on startup and a constant 70amp at run for years on SB50's. All ratings are for 6AWG (6 B&S) wire size. So in theory this setup at 100 amp output with 50 amp plugs and 6 B&S wire would be suitable in say, a 4wd canopy setup, with short cable runs. A caravan with long cable runs would need an upgrade. The SB50 Data Sheet is available online.
Im staying with Victron Mutiplus 2 as the Inverter charger has available 120Amp into your system from shore power, and 2 x Victron Orion XS 12/12-50A DC-DC Battery Charger, I have had a few issues with Redarc before.
Love it when you show us what new gear you’re putting into my next Patriot (when I upgrade in the not too distant future)! Great to see the loading up vids back. Cheers
The alpha can be DC current limited to 50A. So no need to upgrade the Anderson anyway, it also does solar as well as DC charging too. So on a decent van that actually has a lot of solar you can still saturate that 100A capacity even without 240v AC.
Yep, I put in 45amps from truck, could be way more but for now it ok and I get about 70amps from solar without any extra panels plugged in. When plugged in to shore power, I can charge 800 amp hrs of battery from 20% to full in half a day with the 100 amp Alpha.
i have the goblock 100Ah as it allows my partner and i to swap it between our 2 cars without owning 2 batteries, why is this the only 12v system i'd need?
A bit overkill dont you think? What are people running that they need this much power? Ive had no issues with a 100ah battery and my 50amp Renogy Dc to dc charger. It runs fridge, water pump, lights, charges phones.. what else do you need? Not to mention it has built in solar AND it charges the starting battery when the house battery is full. Cost me less than $1k total for everything about 5yrs ago..
I did chuckle at the installation manual for the Alpha 100. So while you can run 100A through the unit. It doesn't have the ability to join cable to the unit that'll take 100A..... And REDARC "recommend" stepping the cable size down or cutting the cable strands to fit in a lug that'll actually bolt up to the unit! (Super Dodgy). I really want to like redarc, as I try to put Aussie made first, but they keep shooting themselves in the foot......
Love your content, but the price is crazy for it. I would pay 1500 and not worry about the cost, but 3k plus is crazy when the 200 amp lithium costs victron is the most head of the game more they any but safari electrical is now going higher voltage and connected together with out cables for the batterys and charger where i think most of the top brand stuff needs to do the same with less cables and connect together systems.
I install hundreds of Redarc products and rate it extremely highly but the price point of these just doesn’t add up for what it delivers. $5800 is just nuts and you can install a better setup with not functionality at a better price from Victron.
Victron will not handle beating up in Offroad, also it is not simple to operate and connect. Also you need to spend more time and money in installation of VC. We have replaced Victron with Redarc 3 years ago and won’t go back to VC :) also not everyone needs that much charge so manager 30 will do the job :)
@@adamnorton9701 I do however that still does not change the facts of the matter. I have worked in the off grid industry for over 25 years so I think I have a little bit of an idea.
lol there after market service is what sets them apart, price is forgotten long after quality is remembered! Maybe you can’t afford it but that doesn’t make it over priced!

I came here to make this comment. Thank you! Not enough people understand that a 50a Anderson plug is good for a lot more than 50a

Just added a orionXS into my setup into the DMAX, 49.5amp solid is a beast for such a small unit

Great helpful vid
The alternator in my Coaster is 55/60A , would I need to upgrade it to run the Alpha50?
Thanks 😊
o for sure major gap in overland tech here in the usa... I was lucky to get a bcdc1240d
This is great for information 🤙🤙🇦🇺
Can you do more mate .all of friends and people say a lot of different things with 12v , 4x4 ,camping
Go 48v if you really need a lot of power.
any good for my boat you would think?

We run 800 amp batteries in 6x6 truck and the Manager Alpha 100 will be a killer unit paired with that amount of batteries ❤
