In Canada we play it differently. The goose doesn't try to touch you, you run opposite ways of each other back to the open spot and race to sit in it. The winner becomes a duck.

we all knew that one kid who went around the circle like 10 times before choosing someone because they loved being the goose so much smh
I thought they did it to lull the ducks into complacency. It seemed like when they finally chose a goose, that person was always unprepared, and therefore guaranteed not to catch the goose before they got back to the empty spot (even if they were otherwise a very fast kid).

In elementary school we played a version of this game but when you wanted to make someone the goose, instead of touching them, you’d pour a bucket of water on their head. So no creepy touching, you just get them wet then run away while they try touching you.
