    I'm the owner of the MGA in this video. I thought I would give everyone an update. The culprit was the oil pressure relief valve was stuck in an open position. When I purchased the car it came with some spare parts, including a new oil pressure relief valve spring, but no valve. So I just replaced the spring - not even trying to pull the valve (oops). I finally thought I should try it again, but this time with a new valve. Alas, I could not get the old valve out. It was stuck fast! In fact, I needed to run a tap into the valve (14 mm), then run a bolt into the tapped hole with a jam nut and washer pushing against the block. I ran the jam not out against the washer, and it pulled the valve out. I now have great pressure right from the start - 45 pounds at idle, 70 pounds when revved.

    Humble suggestion, have Max the cameraman buy a 1 foot by 1 foot LED LIGHT Panel. These are simple, come with a dimmer NO HEAT so safe to rest anywhere on the car- always dark spots under the hood. The light could be “pre-set “ to facilitate smooth “one take” videos, oh and the secret is out we all use lights...leave it in the shot! Really like your videos, keep up the great work!

    Hi John, That oil looked pretty dirty to me. I cannot imagine letting my oil get like that. My MGA Coupe will hold 70 all day no matter how hot it gets. Lot of mods required to get there. U.K.

    Great video! I don't trust the electric oil pressure type. I have converted both my 68 and 71 MGBs to mechanical type.

    Had the same problem at 17 in my then 20-year old MGA. I completely rebuilt the engine thinking that would fix it. Nope. So I came to accept it as a normal for the car. On a drive north to Santa Barbara, it started knocking like crazy and the temperature skyrocketed. I towed it back to LA, tore it apart, but this time I replaced the oil pump. Yeah, that was the key to my low oil pressure issue. This, after having to have the journals metal sprayed on my now ruined crankshaft.

    I enjoyed this video but I would like to know what the problem was. Unfortunately, I don't believe there has been a follow up video - forgive me if I'm wrong.

    Hen talking about oil pressure please state weather the Oil is Hot or Cold . 20 psi idle oil pressure when the engine and oil is cold is a BIG issue, not so much when fully warm.
    Also, never assume something is OK, just because the relief was said to be changed, I would still check it before pulling the oil pan. If only because it is MUCH easier.

    Is it being caused by that non-original wooden dash?

    nice vid, I noticed the last gauge you used had the viewing glass at an angle ,could this be the cause of the problem the needle catching the glass face?

    my oul pressure gage jumps around at regular intervals. Any ideas?

    • @tjm3900
      @tjm3900 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it an electric gauge or mechanical? Explain "jumps around" it should be expected to see the oil pressure slowly decrease during the first 20 minutes of driving.
