Man, I had written this knife off. But those AWT scales really class that thing off. I also have a soft spot in my heart for D2. I’m really curious to see how the CPM D2 holds up. Great video!
I just did the same exact thing to my redoubt same color and everything and I love it. I went from hardly ever carring it to, I cant keep it out of my pocket. AWT make some great scales, cant recommend them enough. Great video!!
That looks great! I'm definitely gonna keep an eye out for a cheap Redoubt now. I'm going on 2 years of basically daily carry of my Inkosi, and its still getting smoother. Bearings definitely have their place, but they'll never be a replacement for the action you get from a properly tuned and well broken in washer pivot.
I was able to pick up the Redoubt on Knife Joy’s buyers club discount for $128 so I ended up into this knife for just over $200 bucks which is a pretty killer value all things considered. I do wish that it started out like this but that’s a whole other deal entirely 🤣
I'm not sure if it will get its own video, but this redoubt is actually currenty in my pocket! I honestly did not care for it prior to the scale swap, but its now one of my favorite "full-size" EDCs. Its a great knife.
I bought the Redout as a vacation trinket. Ended up not carrying because the grip leaves a lot to be desired. Just received my AWT grips. Looking forward to installing. Thanks for the video.
This, as was the case with the original BM 560 Freek, is another example of BM putting out an excellent blade with subpar handle scales combination. Especially at the price they charge- you would expect them to put better quality scales on their folders.
I think the poors and grooves in washers are to hold the lube in the pivot, maybe don't want it to smooth or lube won't cling ? Just thinking out loud.
My only goal with the washers is to remove where they have tarnished. I’d imagine the are pretty shiny when they leave the factory! Thanks for watching!!
Ol bubs you son of a gun . I saw a vid where you had to eliminate knives in your collection for fun and saw this redoubt with the applied weap scales and thought it looked so much better . For $230-$250 thats a nice ass looking benchmade where they would charge a bit more for that imo , lol . I like it a lot and am pondering on giving it a go . I have the cF bugout laid out and 3 spyderco s and a mini Freek on the way . Like like like . Happy Easter ol Bubs .
I did this to my redoubt I got the blue titanium color . Loving the channel just one thing your camera keeps focusing and it messing with my eyes my problem I know but letting you know . Great video bro . Oh I used that lanyard tube thing and it rattled like crazy took it out I don't use lanyards anyway .
It so dramatically improves this knife!!! I really appreciate you bringing up the focus thing! It’s actually very much on my mind of something I’m trying to fix. I’m having trouble getting rid of that while retaining the lighting and crispy look! The lanyard has to go for me too man! Thanks for watching!
I don’t own a standard Griptilian currently to compare, but my gut is that the springs are the same. I’d shoot an email to info@benchmade.com to get a definitive answer.
okay dumb question... but if i don't care about cleaning everything, is it possible to just remove + replace the scales without taking apart the pivot, lockbar, etc? just unscrew scales and screw on new scales?
Not a dumb question at all! The only issue is that the pivot has to be removed in order to get the 2nd scale off. Flytanium makes a tool www.flytanium.com/products/pivot-tool-for-benchmade-knives that pushes the pivot out and keeps everything aligned to do a scale swap without taking apart the mechanism. I have an earlier video (lower quality video but still useful) where I showcased how this tool works. Thanks for watching! th-cam.com/video/OG3ceNmzeW4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UT6XNd65ItwqTBua
I know this was a while ago but this should be so much more popular or as popular as all the para 3 s and other modded designs imho . It will , knives take time ….and $$
This knife looks the way sunsets make me feel
It came out great! Thanks for watching
Excellent disassembly and assembly with the new scales.
Thanks for watching and the positive feedback!
Yup , washers are rewarding . I tighten up until it’s stiff and work them and then loosen has worked in every one so far .
So true! Start tight and break em in and loosen a touch later!
Man, I had written this knife off. But those AWT scales really class that thing off. I also have a soft spot in my heart for D2. I’m really curious to see how the CPM D2 holds up. Great video!
It really spruced it up! Thanks for watching!!
Great tutorial video! The scales REALLY elevated that knife. I really disliked this knife prior to the swap!
Thank you! I agree completely that these scale’s really transformed the knife
I just did the same exact thing to my redoubt same color and everything and I love it. I went from hardly ever carring it to, I cant keep it out of my pocket. AWT make some great scales, cant recommend them enough. Great video!!
Thanks for watching! The scales are great, it totally transforms this knife!!
Great vid! I used it to replace the scales on my redoubt. Very nice knife now! Thank you !
I’m glad it helped! Thanks for watching!

That’s what I was thinking man 200 bucks you’d be in real good with a really nice knife
Dude, did you ever get one?
I would love to see your review about using the Redoubt!
I'm not sure if it will get its own video, but this redoubt is actually currenty in my pocket! I honestly did not care for it prior to the scale swap, but its now one of my favorite "full-size" EDCs. Its a great knife.

Thanks for watching and sharing! On the Redoubt it’s the most dramatic scale swap transformation I think I’ve ever seen!
How much for the AWT grips for the Redoubt??
This, as was the case with the original BM 560 Freek, is another example of BM putting out an excellent blade with subpar handle scales combination. Especially at the price they charge- you would expect them to put better quality scales on their folders.
Thanks for watching! Definitely a much upgraded knife with the aluminum scales!
I think the poors and grooves in washers are to hold the lube in the pivot, maybe don't want it to smooth or lube won't cling ? Just thinking out loud.

Copy that I always lube my washers with tap magic it's a cutting fluid for tapping bolts lol but it's at work and free lol

Happy Easter to you too! It’s definitely a “build” worth having! I’d take another! 😂

Are the omega springs on the Redoubt the same as the ones in the standard Griptilian? Thanks.
I don’t own a standard Griptilian currently to compare, but my gut is that the springs are the same.

I think the size and how ergonomic it is just creates a stellar knife. I think in due time this will be more popular!
Ol bubs bro , weight on this bad boy ? Thanks so much
4.44 oz after the swap. The scales increase the weight but it’s worth it. Definitely a full sized knife.
what color are those awt scales?
These are charcoal green!
Great video but this auto focus feature of the camera is giving me motion sickness.
Sorry about that, it's tough to get right!
That’s exactly how I’ll do mine if the price of the knife ever goes down 😮
Thanks for watching! Definitely watch knifejoy buyers club deals. That’s where I bought this one, I believe in the neighborhood of $135.
Those scales fix this knife completely
Thanks for watching! Totally agree!
original looks better
To each their own I suppose! Thanks for watching!
Buy flimsy plastic knife for $200. Then buy new scales for $90. Then replace clip for $40. That's you need to know about Benchmade knives.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to provide your perspective!
