Not to forget....THE BEST guitar solo EVER! What a climax! Such a DISGRACE this guy stops it! TWICE! Since 1968, "The Man In Black", Mr. Ritchie Blackmore, is THE GREATEST within the hard rock community! Without Ritchie Blackmore, NO Dio, Powell, Bain, Carey, Coverdale, Hughes, Bonnet, Airey, Lynn Turner, Rondinelli or Rosenthal. Just to name a few! I'd say, even NO Bolin. Had Blackmore NOT left Purple in '75, Bolin would've never got the recognition he got.

You didn´t mention the lyrics... which are great... an analogy to people believing and putting the entire meaning of their lives into people making grand promises (like politicians)... then those promises are not fullfilled (the wizard falls and dies) and everyone wasted their entire lives, their sanity, suffered for years... FOR NOTHING.
One of the best bands of the 70s and 80s This was the second album I ever brought played it to death........ First Album Deep Purple in Rock, another Blackmore classic.
It's amazing a man of such small physical stature had such a mighty powerful voice. Very little training with the exception he said that trumpet playing from his youth aided him in his breath control and range for singing. Mostly it was just being born with a God given talent he shared with the World. They say he was modest and good to his fans. He'll sure be missed. R.I.P. Ronnie. We'll miss you 🤘🌈
One of the greatest songs, from Rainbow, on what is probably one of the all time greatest power metal albums and what a line up. Music like this just doesn't come any better.
Epic....one of my favorite songs of all time. Richie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, and Cozy Powell (on drums) are so powerful on this track. A top 5 group for me....such a great band.
Epic song... Dio was one of a kind... and that Blackmore solo doesn’t seem to end does it... just love it... ☺️☺️ ‘Man on the silver mountain’, 'kill the king', 'gates of babylon' also are great songs....
So glad you guys didnt pause it on the outro. I love playing this song extremely loud in my car with all the windows down while driving through the Mojave desert in California
This is Ronnie James Dio. One of the godfathers of powerful metal vocals. The drummer is Cozy Powell. One of the greatest rock drummers ever. He died in a car crash in England many years ago. R.I.P. Cozy. This song is 44 years old. One of the first super groups in rock history.
One of the greatest and most epic songs ever written, every member brought their A game here, especially Dio,who was at the absolute pinnacle of his vocal abilities during this time period.
Dio always gave 110% probably more, he was a master of his voice and he always gave everything he had at a performance, even if it was just for a handful of people in the middle of nowhere. Dio was an amazing singer and an amazing person. Always well known for his humility, his kindness and his love and dedication to his fans.
The words all time classic are over used in a lot of instances, but not for this masterpiece. This song is an all time classic. Not even up for debate.
My personal opinion.. all vocalists in the hard rock or metal community should study the techniques of Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickenson, Rob Halford, Freddie Mercury, and for a more modern addition Devin Townsend, Tatiana Shmayluk, and Joe Duplantier. Anything that can be learned from any of those vocalists (among others I am sure) will benefit them in the long run. Oldschool for the solid foundation they provide with the operatic and high-pitch clean vocals, and the newer stuff for the grit and grind of the more extreme vocal spectrum. Just my opinion of course.. yours may vary.
The lyrics, taken literally, are about a wizard who enslaves countless numbers of people and makes them build a stone tower for him. The people hope for the day when their misery comes to an end, as they build the tower in harsh conditions ("In the heat and rain, with whips and chains") just so they can see him fly, which gives them hope. In the end, the wizard falls off the tower and dies ("no sound as he falls instead of rising. Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand." The lyrics also have a covert meaning, which many people have interpreted as a warning not to believe in false idols or messiahs. It can also mean that one should not give up hope even in harsh circumstances. The song also showcases Ronnie James Dio's soaring vocals and Ritchie Blackmore's guitar work. According to the book Rainbow Rising by Roy Davies, Ritchie Blackmore wrote this song on a cello.
@@lloydsmith9262 Your welcome. I like to do the research on other songs what they're about, unlike other people. They gotta understand that each song tells it's own story
Rainbow was an absolute iconic band with all of its member. And this is an iconic song (at least for me). I love when people get stunned by Dio`s vocals because he was incredible not only of the notes he could hit (we see a lot of great power vocalists nowadays) - but because of his own unique way of delivering it to the listeners - we immediately connect to each sound he produce. I dont know how to call it but i think its something we call Truth. His sings the way its not just power - its true power )
I've listened the record almost 40 years and it still sends shivers all over, whenever I play it and this single song tells all there is to know about RJD and Rainbow in whole.
"This guy" is the late great Ronnie James Dio. THE best rock front man ever. This song came out in 1976 (the year before I graduated high school) back when Blackmore still knew how take you on a trip with the guitar. Check out the 1977 Munich concert on here. It is a couple of hours of blow your minds. I may be old, but we had the best music. Side note. Melody of Liliac fashioned her singing style after RJD.
A Light In The Black from the same album is pt 2 of this song. No one ever reacts to it. It's most instrumental and the guitar solo is something else. Would love to see a reaction to it.
Ritchie Blackmore on guitar from Deep Purple. Drummer is Cozy Powell, who died many years ago in a motorcycle accident. His drum solo used to be the 1812 overture by Tchaikovsky and his drum kit would come over the top of the audience.
That guy is no other than Ronnie James Dio, I think you reacted to some of his solo material and with Black Sabbath I cant imagine how a thin 5'4 guy could sing like that with such power and majesty, best singer to come from the 70s by far he has no one remotely close and there are lots of big names from that period. The guitar player and the drummer f*** obliterated their instruments here 🤘
Dio has the best voice in metal and rock!! There will never be another voice like his. We have lost a very vocally talented man. Never-ending his stories and words that he sang..🤘💜
Such a privilege to watch a fellow singer discover the GREATNESS that is Ronnie James Dio.. I sit here listening with tears in my eyes as is my love for that man and his voice and our loss... I am pretty sure you have listened to more....

Still waiting for an epic STARGAZER movie to be made. There is actually a sequel to this song called "A Light in the Black" that continues the story. Great reaction. Watch the live version. \m/\m/
In the meantime you could watch the film “The Silver Chalice”, part of the plot is that a wizard (Jack Palance) wants to prove that he is greater than Jesus, so he enslaves a large group of people to build him a tower to the sky so he can jump off it and fly…but instead he falls to the ground and dies.
No idea where the dislikes come from. This is just a classic song, from an extremely talented band in their prime. And your reaction is great too, and fun as always. Marvellous.
We are all blessed to be able to experience such talent and artistry. It doesn't matter these songs fall into such and such a genre or style of music. Life is short. We are all just lucky to be able to experience it. And make no mistake - rock music is as legitmate a form of music as any classical or jazz form. in this case, with just 5 musicians, the song is as evocatiove and emotionally challening as any clasical piece. And the musical talents of the performers are the equal of any. The band is tight and focussed, every perfomer contribting to the overall sound. Ronnie James's talents are the equal of any singer while Ritchie's prowess on the guitar is now the stuff of legend.
