      Any update, I have been recently getting them from heavy weight training. Are your headaches gone now, if yes, what did you do

      @@CasualTerror40 Yes, they are gone. I experimented a bit and learned to really bear down and carry the tension of weightlifting in my core. Rather than let that pressure build up to my neck and head. If that makes sense. Carrying all that tension and pressure in my abs/core and really contracting all that during lifts resolved my headaches immediately.

      @@jamdero were you using a lifting belt? I started getting these recently (started with dips, but getting triggered during deadlifts and squats now).

    starting the gym and this happened, will focus on my neck strength, relaxation, and avoiding putting stress due to weight on my neck

    Going through one of these headaches watching this. Just started a new one 30 minutes ago. They have lasted a few days so far. I was almost on the floor in pain from this recent one, now I’m pressing at the muscles in my neck which is slightly helping.

    For everyone asking...meditation, relaxation techniques and yoga. Do it daily. It requires discipline but it will get you better.
    Had my first exertion headache at 17 on a leg press. After it happens it will come back easier unless you do something about it or quit lifting.

      I am also 17 and faced headache
      While doing pull ups
      Now whenever I lift again at the end of my set I face the same headache
      I have been lifting for a year
      Can you explain how that particular headache feels
      Mine feels intense and sharp with a heartbeat in my head

    Thank you so much for this content. I think you're right on the money. At least in my case. I have exertion headaches that began after a fall that caused whiplash, concussion, and ultimately cranio-cervical instability of C1 and C2. You're right. Neurology and Spine and Pain clinics are dead-ends. "Imaging looks clean. Try this medication." I think I'm going to reach out to your clinic for a virtual consultation.
    Couple questions:
    1) Shoot me straight, do you frequently see patients achieve complete resolution of their exertion headaches? Or do most patients end up in the bucket of symptom management?
    2) Generally speaking, what are some of your most common recommendations/treatments for patients with this type of headache? Physical therapy, chiropractic, etc...

    For anybody watching this that is triggered by sneezes, I found a sure-fire way to stop sneezes. Works every time. I haven't sneezed in 6 months.
    As soon as you start to feel the urge to sneeze creeping up (it's important to catch it as early as possible,) press your tongue to the roof of your mouth and pinch your nose closed with your fingers. If you can feel where the itch/urge is in your nose, then massage your nostrils focusing on that spot until the urge fades. If you can't feel exactly where the urge is, it's ok, just keep your nose pinched an your tongue up until the urge fades.
    For me this has never failed.

    This information makes a lot of sense for me. I had a torn labrum in my shoulder from being a pitcher throughout high school and college that finally got to the point of having surgery at 45 years old. My shoulder mobility has been great over the last 3 years but I have almost constant trap tightness that causes issues with my rib head and scalenes in my left side (same side as surgery). I also have had issues with central serous retinopathy in my left eye and have had to have laser surgery to fix the vessels. There is no known cause for CNS but is thought to be associated with type A personality, stress, and cortisol levels. I am a pretty laid back person (not type A at all) but I wonder if the constant tightness in my left side of neck and trap are causing the issues with my eye. I never put them together until having the exertion headaches when I started lifting weights recently and I get them every time I do bench press specifically. This video has peaked my curiosity but has maybe created more questions than answers. Thank you for the information!

    Thank you for this video! I have C6/7 damage, and the strangest glitches happen! Troubles engaging triceps, random face flushing, exertion headaches during some HIIT exercises that hit suddenly and intensely (disrupting my vision for up to an hour)!

    I just had my first exertion headache ever 3 days ago doing my heaviest leg press yet, I've never suffered from headaches or migraines before so I was really shocked, it was probably an 8/10 in the pain scale. Fast forward 2 days later(yesterday) I started doing an ab exercise with no weights and when I was done I was hit by a very severe headache, it was easily a 10/10nin pain.
    So now I'm worried, could exercising the neck help me?

      I had exactly the same - I've had a few migraines after leg days specifically, within the last 2 months. I was prone to migraines before, but this sounds SO MUCH like what I'm going through. I know how to dodge my migraine as I'm lucky and get an aura, but I don't want to take NSAIDs every leg day.

Was really hoping for some type of recommendation or stretch in this video - I just checked out your channel and couldn't find any videos specific to stretching or tips to prevent exertion headaches - could you point us in the right direction?

      Same thing happened to me doing leg press, I've been lifting very heavy the past month and I think it caught up to me. Makes me feel lightheaded for the rest of the workout.

      I hear you. I’ve been battling migraines for a decade. My triggers are exercise and also barometric pressure. I’m seeing a specialist and have made progress in the last year. I have been taking Pizotifen 1.5mg tablets for 6 months and have seen a significant improvement. I have tried other medications like Amytriptline and Topimirate but they didn’t help much. I’m also finding that Magnesium also helps. Good luck and hope you get some improvement.

    What about rise in cortisol during exercise? Can you explain post exercise headaches, ie 4 hours after training?

    I don't think you specifically said this in the video, but my cough headaches have gotten a lot better ever since I started using Flonase every day. My cough headaches were exacerbated by sinus pressure and flonase finally got it under control, as well as my coughing fits caused by post-nasal drip. I do also have a lot of upper neck pain though so that's definitely part of it as well.

    Wish there was any information on what is really happening underneath skin, along nerves, muscles and blood vessels and why? even if how to prevent or treat it is unknown.

    My headache often begins after a hockey game, I get a throbbing brain feeling then a couple hours later the headache begins when ever I cough sneeze, laugh etc.

    I always have a burning headache on top of my head everyday. When I bend over, cough sneeze, laugh, pick things up or during bowel movement the pain is amplified. And sometimes last for a day or more. The worst being sneezing. Had brain mri, and ct scans. All were normal. Doctor said it's probably from tight muscles in the head or neck. Been to PT but doesn't seem to be helping.

    Hello I’m actually at a Doctors visit just to get an answer why I’m all of a sudden getting these exertional headaches? I have been training in the gym for about 14 months now and never had any issues whatsoever. However these last two weeks I integrated in some shoulder workouts to help build up my shoulder muscles, and to your conclusion I see why I would get triggered by strenuous workouts like RDL, squats, pull-ups l, shoulder presses etc. I also work in construction and most of the time I’m working overhead.
    My question is what are some different methods to attack these horrible exertion headaches once and for all?

    I suffer from these type of headaches they are the worst when I sneeze or cough bend over to Tie my shoes or lift to much weight I’m not a weight lifter just someone who works manual labor I have had these for about 5 mts been to doctors tried different types of medicine and nothing works I just don’t know where to go to next any advice would be appreciated

    I started lap swimming at the pool and I couldn’t understand why I always get debilitating headaches. Thanks for this video. Any recommendations for decreasing tension on neck during swimming. Is that the solution?

    I’m kind of scared.
    Yesterday I was squatting (I’m 17 years old) when I had a headache. I was squatting 185 for 10 reps. I was on my tenth rep and I did a pause rep. When of course I was breathing incorrectly and I felt a ring on my head pounding. I felt dizzy. My girlfriend took care of me and I felt better the day after. It is very mild now. Though I do feel a bit out of it. I plan on working out again. Except today not doing squat and going to exhaustion on excersizes that I breathe better in. Am I gonna get headaches from now on ??

      You still have them? If not, how’d you get rid of them? I’m 16 and got one yesterday and today while lifting. Sudden, throbbing pain in my head while finishing a set. I’ve been working out for 6 months with same if not more intensity and have good diet. Scared tf out bc I’ve never had these before and am young too…

    Is it true that bcaa specific luecine can help with exertion headaches? I was told this by a trainer. I get them where I do my boxing training, run, or short sprinting bouts. I also get them from being out in the sun too long

    I've had these headaches for a couple years now and recently they got bad enough so I had to go to the emergency room. Now my headaches never go away completely but they do calm down with medication. But even with the medication my headaches flare up if I exert myself a little too much, which isn't that much for me. I don't know what to do and the doctors just chalk it up as a mental health issue. 😢

      I’ve been dealing with the exact same thing ever since this started a month ago for me at the gym. I’ve had a ct scan, mri and just told they were migraines but I’ve never had migraines before this. Now I feel it all the time, and feel like I can’t do anything physical anymore. It’s really awful. Have yours gotten any better, or any luck finding a solution? I’m trying physical therapy, massage, and even acupuncture. Migraine medication doesn’t seem to be working

    I experienced this yesterday as i was doing the butterfly machine after my 20 min cardio, as of today its still sensitive, i thought i was gonna died with the pain, now i have experienced this before also during intercourse but it goes away and dont bother me again, but this one have feeling like crap for 2 days now

      So it gave me tinnitus i was having headaches for 2 weeks after that exertion headache now is been 6 months with tinnitus, MRI done everything else looks good.​@@SyedFarzan

    I suffer from Daily Chronic Migraines, I started lifting and for the first few months I was fine. The last week every time I lift I been getting a sharp pain as soon as I start. 😢

    2 months ago, at gym, I was doing biceps workout. I was doing 10 reps per set, on my 3rd set, I felt like my muscle between neck and head was pulled, also, I felt like something heavy (stone, metal rod, ,,,) hit on back of my head. At that time, I felt like I was taking my last breadth. That day, I took ibruprofen. Two weeks later, I started experience heavy and pressure and throbbing on front part of my head. Now, it is getting worst, I can't bend, and I can't carry my laptop, backpack, I can't run, jogging . I feel pressure, heaviness and throbbing if I do any of these activities.
    Any long term solution/treatment ? My wife is pregnant, I need to work to run my family. Advice please.......

    anything been working for some of you guys out there? let's share info! I started getting this headache about a week or so ago. throbbing pulsating pain on the left side of my head near the tempo. started after doing a intense round of jump ropes, happened again the next time I tried several days later. happened this week on 2 different occasions when I tried to max out on pull ups. today the throbbing was so strong when i was close to maxing out on my first set of pull ups i couldn't exercise anymore. this is super new for me and stressful.

    I was at an NFL game on Sunday. I screamed the whole game and my voice is gone. the worst part is i am getting an intense pain at the base of my skull anytime i get exerted now. its been two days. how long can i expect this to last? cant even enjoy sex right now since it is triggering the pain again.

      I done mine in the gym.. and same as you.. came back during sex!
      That is the question, how long to heal. I've seen anything from 3 weeks to 6 months!
