I can not express how much I appreciate an honest advice video without pseudo-science and some product advertisement that has been shoe-horned in. This cuts to the core and - the sports aspect set aside - I will reconsider my daily nutrition routines. Thanks a lot!
Most the time its dehydration not drinking enough water, not warming up properly or not stretching, lack of sleep? Lack of food or vitamins, or you could be pushing harder than is necessary without getting use to the early stages of a workout first, also posture dont over do it otherwise back pain can cause it too and lack of sleep/recovery day, just some basic fixes.
For the last few years I have suffered from intense exertion, exercise induced, headaches that would lasted up to 48hrs. Even a 30 minute intense walk would bring on a nauseating headache. I tried everything from chiropractic spine and neck treatment , drinking coffee (which gave some relief), drinking more water (bad idea), changing my diet I even had MRI/CT Scans. It go so bad I stopped exercising completely. After watching your video I decide to look into low salt and headaches. (Thank you :-) I read an article about Hyponatremia that I believe changed my life. Hyponatremia occurs when the concentration of sodium in your blood is abnormally low. Sodium is an electrolyte, and it helps regulate the amount of water that's in and around your cells. Makes sense since the timing of the headaches started shortly after I adopted a low salt plant based diet. So I started adding salt into my diet in the form of miso soup, a pinch of Himalayan salt in my smoothies, celery juice, and electrolyte drinks. I'm very mindful not to go over 2000 mgs a day. Voila! It worked...to date no exertion headaches and I'm enjoying long walks and exercising again.
Wow! What an amazing video! Really useful information. I have headaches for 7 years already after playing football and no one seems to know what is happening. I will apply these 4 tips and hope I will get rid of it!
Thank you for this video! I notice mine happen after long workouts with high intensity.. specifically mma, boxing, wrestling.. where I lose probably 2lb-3lb of sweat. I now eat a decent meal about 2 hours prior to training, and right before I take an electrolyte supplement (LMNT) it contains 1000mg of sodium 200mg potassium and 30mg of magnesium. I’ve noticed it has helped ALOT, I also follow up with a post workout meal. I hope this helps everyone with their exercises induced migraines
It's interesting that the supplement contains magnesium. I don't know if there is a connection, but I do get the same kind of migraines as you describe and I am also really prone to cramps. And I know that cramps can be caused by magnesium deficiency. So maybe if cramps and exercise migraines are combined, then that might be another indication that electrolytes are the problem? I will definitely try some kind of supplement or broth though.
After I go on my 5 mile runs I have this headache and takes a day to go away , it really sucks and prevents me from running the next day , I hope these tips work!!
I've suffered with excursion headaches for years. I tried everything, and nothing worked. Gave up intense exercising. Even playing golf brings it on. I was desperately searching for answers and finally discovered what the underlying cause was. Hyponatremia. Low sodium. Salty broths before and after exercising is the only thing that works for me. I now enjoy moderate exercising and golf. Caffeine also helps.
This is very helpful! Most tips for runners headaches/ migraines focus on hydrating only which never made a difference for me. I drink a lot of water throughout the day (I aim for my weight in fl oz) and yet everytime I workout I get a debilitating migraine. I will def give these tips a try!
Been getting headaches during weight training. Reading these comments makes me feel relieved that a week from now after following her advice I’ll be back to normal!

Pellegrino sparkling water is a good natural source of electrolytes (which you can shake the fizz out of, if you prefer still water). The electrolytes for that is listed on the back of the bottle. Another good supplement is Viridian Electrolyte Fix. Its a natural source from the great salt lake in utah.
Thank you that was very helpful. I found something as simple as eating a small about, like fruit, around 30-40mins before exercising (which I was not doing before) made a big difference.
To be honest, my headaches come after working, I work at a motocross track where I do alot of lifting and pulling hoses and other various things as well as trying out the chicken broth method and seeing how that goes cause I've tried some of the other 3 really happy to have found this thought thank you so much :)
Thank you for the info! I was really wondering why I always had a migraine attack after I exercise and now thanks to this video, I got enlightened!! Keep safe! 💖
Sometimes I would workout and like the left didn’t side of my Brian or right front side would be in extreme pain it it would last like a day or two it’s terrible
Thank you for the detailed video. Did your headache increase in pain when your heart rate raised? I have a feeling mine is related to salts/electrolytes, but I also notice the headaches worsen if my heart rate increases again
Bruh I’m never doing push-ups again, ended up with a migraine and not being able to sleep that night, ended up vomiting real bad, god thanks to the dang bucket🥲😬
keep going man pushups are one of the best muscle builders so keep going and grinding but dont beat urself go as many as you can but know your limits yknow

Thank you so much for this. The postural aspect of this was not on my radar at all. I have made proactive changes to the previous three issues so this is the next thing to work on.

Thanks for the video. I am suffering with flash in my eye sight and followed by head ache for moderate work out also. For half mile run also the migraine triggers. May be postural i believe as i drink lot of water. I had accu puncture treatment a while back and the head aches does not come for intensive workout sessions also. After an year of treatment, I again see the head aches reappear. Thought of getting a better advice.

I was running uphill then walking downwards when I felt my head throbbing and a mild stabbing pain, I wasn't finished with my running session so I thought jokingly "well, we all have to die sooner or later, I won't let the pain dictate my life, I will do one last run". When I finished and walked down again I had the worst stabbing headache I've ever felt in my life, mainly at the front of my head, I felt dizzy and sick and couldn't think straight. I barely walked home and almost had to call the ambulance because I thought I was dying, it lasted for an hour and I can still feel some of the aftermath. Lesson learned I guess: NEVER push through head pain, doesn't worth it.
Hi - I get a headache after prolonged exercise and the more intense the exercise the worse the headache. Anyone else get this and if so have you solved it ? It usually starts about an hour or so after I've finished exercise and becomes unbearable about 6 hours after. Symtomps include stiff neck, painful eyes, hard to keep them open...feel like my head is swollen and blocked behind my nose , sharp aching kind of throbing pain in head. Had this for about 10 years now, had MRI scans and CT scans but they seemingly havent found anything wrong inside. any advice appreciated, totally depressed by it

How are you doing now? I get this headache too where it feels like blood vessels outside my brain are swollen and hurts when I exert myself or bend down. I’ve had it for 5 months straight now. Every single day. MRI and CT scan came normal too. Next up is a Vascular Ultrasound test where it checks if you have a blocked blood vessel or artery depriving proper blood flow. Have you done this test yet? I pray you and I find the answer soon brother. It does take away mental and emotional energy from us but know you’re not alone suffering from this.
@@cantseeshadow no sadly not! Nice to know I may not be the only person on earth with this! searching the internet its like this doesnt exist! Is yours after prolonged exercise? I can play football/soccer usually without issues as its stop start. However running for 30mins plus at a fast pace with heart rate above 170 = guaranteed headache. Usually comes on about 3 hours after. and last then most of the day. weirdly my mouth creates loads of spit during this time not sure if thats connected.. Vascular Ultrasound test sounds interesting, blocked blood vesel would certainly make sense! When is your ultrasound?
@@YouCantGoBack Makes sense. I’m a musician and play every weekend, 5-8 hours of non stop blowing (sounds sus I know lol) It started off gradually, only hurting the following morning and progressed to what I have now. I’ll be finally taking an extended rest soon to see if I recover. Those sports are very exerting too! It sounds like you might have what is known as exertional headaches. Have you thought of taking a long break? Trust me I’ve done so much damn research too, I honestly memorized every type of headache and it’s symptoms by now! Loads of saliva? It could be you’re just dehydrated bro but I don’t know your situation. My Vascular Ultrasound is in one month from now. Gotta hang in there bro it sounds like you might just be lacking in some minerals or vitamins and when you exercise, you sweat them out causing you a headache. Again, just a guess. If you haven’t already it’s best to get your blood tested to see if you lack any important minerals or vitamins your body needs.

Thank you for the video im sure I have most of this steps/bullet points covered already but I will give it a double check to all of it and see if my situation gets better, for some reason every time I run since I was really little my system literally shuts down? I don't really know how to explain it in English but is like all the life out of my body goes out along with my defenses and I start having terrible headaches at the point were I feel extremelly dizzy and lost wothoit any energy on me not even being able to think clearly and end up throwing up. Is tiring because is every single time, I really want to run like any other normal human being in this heart.
OH MY GOD. I was experiencing headaches for the last couple of months. Chicken broth fixed mine!!! Thank you!! Although I'm drinking sports drinks with high amounts of sodium (powerbar active nutrition) I was still experiencing minor headaches. Trying to find the sweetspot now of how much salt i need to take in order to avoid the headaches (I dont want to eat too much salt...). Any recommendation on alternative ways to take in salt?
also, if something is wrong in the neck with the muscles/nerves, can this be seen by doin gan mri scan of it? asking because i have for over a year now 24/7 headache on the right side of the back of the head, did an mri of the brain, went to see a chiropractor and a physiotherapist but nothing helped..
@@mubarakabbas couple of days ago they took an mri scan of the neck, if i have the result, ill let u know. My neurologist have given me different meds over the months but nothing has helped me yet, only thing that helps for the pain is tamadol.
Does this happen after youve worked out or are these headaches without working out? also do you smoke? And make sure its not the medication causing it you could be allergic to something in your diet, maybe low sugar levels or not enough water can also give you headaches.
Everymorning atleast 4 to 5 times a week i do 20 min on a walking machine then i do 12 to 15 of skipping rope barefoot on a soft surface. I spend a lot of time sitting down playing guitar, then at night i lift weights. I am experiencing a precise throbbing sensation on my left side behind my head where the occipital nerve beggins.
Every time I do this breast stroke, super man punch and paddle back work out I get a headache, I swear moderately and it’s about a 6 minute workout... the headache doesn’t last long, I’ve only done this workout a few times and it’s the only time I’ve ever experienced this, I wasn’t a water drinker but I just started drinking about 4-5 cups a day this last week

I never and I repeat never had migraines until had 3 strokes in May 2010. Most of the time I usually have to go the ER for a migraine cocktail and sometimes I have to be hospitalized for it. The longest hospital stay was 8 days. For some reason they just went dormant 3 years ago. I began having migraines again all of a sudden about 4 months ago but my symptoms are totally different than the ones I had before....I now get dizzy, feel faint when I get out of bed and I also “lose time”. Nothing helps at all!!! I’m so sick and tired of this crap. This is no way to live I will tell you that much !! I feel like there is just end in site!!! 😩
Do you think there is anything that triggers the migraine? Like the medication? Or maybe dehydration or diet? Low sugar levels? Neck or body soreness, i often find myself getting migraines when i dont drink enough water or get enough sleep, sometimes what im eating certain meats, not enough vitamin D etc, although your situation is different i do find these simple fixes to help, also moderate exercise relieves the tention sometimes as your flushing out toxin and then rehydrating etc
So, where do I start?.HMMMMM...I do believe that I have 3 mitigating culprits..... 1- The last time I sought treatment; I was under the care of 2 top Neurologists in Louisiana and they both agreed that I am plagued with just about the worst case of Insomnia that they have ever seen. 2-I was found to have a B-12 and Iron Deficiency. Last but not least 3- I was diagnosed with having Temporal Lobe Seizures. So any one of these 3 diagnoses in their own right ,could be the trigger for my migraines BUT having all of them together at the same time is the cause of the shit show going on in my brain and body.
I was so nervous right now because after i do 34minutes of threadmill and jumping rope i suddenly felt my head is aching specifically at the left back part of my head so i search it first in youtube whats the reason lol
I started to do cycling, and everytime my heart rate spike above 160 (zone4-5), i got headache afterward, it lasts for few days.. but luckily, my headache is gone after im doing another exercise with limit hr below 155 (stay in zone 3)..
It doesn't matter if I run 5 km or 12km I always gets headaches after. I drink plenty and when I have a tbls of honey post-run it helps but doesn't take the headache away completely so I will consider adding sodium too and see if it changes anything. Also, I tend to drink coffee 30 min after a workout, is that something I need to stop? does caffeine makes the headache worse?
Over exertion, look to balance your heart rate with your breathing. Your body's talking to you, you should listen. Analogy: crawl before walk and walk before run...and reverse it to a cool down.
So basically doing workout after a meal is better than doing it on an empty stomach? I used to do home workout like 20min before brunch and got headache, almost collapse🙃
Ibuprofen (2), (3 if it wont subside after an hour), plenty of water, sodium, massage your own neck and head, warm/cold shower, ice it, stretching your neck
Most the time its dehydration not drinking enough water, not warming up properly or not stretching, lack of sleep? Lack of food or vitamins, or you could be pushing harder than is necessary without getting use to the early stages of a workout first, training too long in a session? also posture dont over do it otherwise back pain can cause it too and lack of sleep/recovery day, just some basic fixes.
You were right about the salt, lack of sodium is what was giving me headaches. Hydrating too much and not eating anything salty

That is amazing! I am so happy you found a good treatment for your excursion headaches.
This is very helpful! Most tips for runners headaches/ migraines focus on hydrating only which never made a difference for me. I drink a lot of water throughout the day (I aim for my weight in fl oz) and yet everytime I workout I get a debilitating migraine.

Is oatmeal good before a run ?
I get bad back of the head & neck pain while on a treadmill & when I pull the recycle bin down to the rd. 😢

Any update ?
How do you feel now?
Zeiza Ze Thanks for asking. I am in my bed with a migraine that started 2 days ago!!! I am having trouble finding a neurologist in my area.
Last but not least
3- I was diagnosed with having Temporal Lobe Seizures.

Possibly. If you drink coffee make sure to drink more water too as coffee can make you dehydrated.
I got a minor pain on the right side of my brain from working out I'm kinda worried but it only lasted acouple seconds but what is this called
Over exertion, look to balance your heart rate with your breathing. Your body's talking to you, you should listen.
Analogy: crawl before walk and walk before run...and reverse it to a cool down.

What if I just added a pinch of salt to my water? Would that work also?
Idk why but when I move my head around on just even walk slowly it starts to hurt so bad
