15:37 I've never made a knife myself, but have used many. And that sound/motion is something I've always enjoyed of my favorite knives I've used/owned. But never had words to express it or why/what it meant. Just knew it was a satisfying part of it. TIL why that is! Thanks Will!
I have not seen so much dedication for twist Damascus more than this series. And I’m loving every minute of it. It’s too bad that the other knife was scrapped because the composite was crazy.
I know the feeling of heat in the shop in the summer all too well. I work in a stainless steel melt shop. Aside from the ambient heat in the shop, we’re also wearing at least 2 layers of flame resistant clothing. There’s not enough Mr. Cools in the world to cool it down
that flat folding knife is BY FAR the best folding knife i have ever seen. i would love to have a work folding knife that doesnt dig into my pocket when driving. you could make knife design into a large scale business by mass producing your many original designs
Just a quick thing I think might help with monetization, you could easily separate some videos like this into 3 or more parts with some montages and stuff to add some extra time. Lol I know you've seen how it's done with the zweihander and Calvary swords. I absolutely love the single video showing everything; it's easily my favorite way that people post since you won't have to watch a bunch of extra stuff just for making the video longer. That being said, I wanted to just comment this in case you make any decent commissions from TH-cam for each video. Love the content; have a great day!
I think that concept of the window will look the best in the dagger anyway! Thanks for putting in the mistakes. That really makes it more realistic that I should go and try forging!!!
One caveat that I would make about using a mini-split heat pump in your shop: Heat pumps are best at keeping a constant temperature, NOT making a huge amount of heat at once. Especially for a shop like yours with a lot of thermal mass in cast iron, don't expect fast changes in temperature.
Ive been wanting to make a folder for such a long time. But they are super intimidating to me. So excited for this video! I really appreciate your videos. Especially the honesty of it. They show that even guys as good as you still make mistakes, and that’s okay! It helps me get back in the shop and push my limits too!
I was told that the Damascus requirement was to prove you could make it. As the fact that you can buy Damascus billets means stock removal is still possible.
Bill's best pupil, Luke Swenson, isn't very far from you, over in Idaho. It'd be great to see you two collaborate on something, and even better if I got to meet you next time I see Luke!
Genuine question here, when you abandon a project what do you do with the cracked blade, or the damascus billet with a bad weld? I would imagine, the failures would be cut into small pieces to be used again, perhaps in a canister. Or do they get sent to scrap to be remelted into new steel?
You might want to get those outside units at least 20 inches off the ground for the winter or you will have icing issues as the defrosted water cant drain away.
I was telling myself that you should be making at least three or four times the steel in case of a mistake and if not just so you can make more or a fixed blade too for your test
Will!! How are you not breaking your edge around 01:50 when you snap your knife close? Is it a special mount? It hurt me physicaly each time I heard the snap.
Will, the editor did not leave the shot of the end grain of the pieces you cut up so we could see the pattern. I tried to stop the film, but the welding arc obscured the patterning. 08:15.
They are different smiths. And Alec does a lot of quicker knife series now. Some of us preferred when Alec did 14 part series about a single project because of the time and detail he put into it. I don’t feel his videos have the same detail and dedication now but I still watch, he’s an interesting tradesman as is will.
Your humility and mastery of your pride is something we should all strive for
Babe wake up, Will just dropped a new mastersmith vid and is looking jacked.
Seeing the design process on the drawing board is priceless. That is something that Alec seems to leave mostly out. Thanks.

oh man! What a view you got outside of your shop! that's beautiful country!

Your getting there. Mistakes are part of the process!
mastery of a craft takes a life time of experience and tends of thousands of hours. he can't rush it.

Love the trials! You're not afraid to post your journey and include your mistakes. Keep up the good work! 😊
I don’t know if he just doesn’t show it but how he never nicks him self on that belt grinder is mastery of itself
I've used them for many years and it is more of a scuff then a nick - those belt sanders aren't moving at angle grinder speeds usually
I'm still impressed by the complexity of a seemingly simple tool. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

thanks MRCOOL for sponsoring, this here, Mr Cool. very cool.
Will Stelter is always a Win🔥

1360 degrees and he's sanding it bare hands. amayzing
The Ruple dial indicator is a sweet tool!
Love the Bowie pose on the thumbnail for this video.
I enjoy watching you work young sir. The dedication you have for your craft is great to see. Wish more younger people had some of it.
I see the lesson was definitely learned from the last project to leave plenty of meat to work with after the forging.
Thank you for showing your process in such an important part of your life. You got this homie. ❤ from Florida

Here is an idea. Take all the ends that you cut off from doing damascus and use them to make a canister Damascus bar and see how it looks.
I'm always happy when I get a Will notification! 😊
beautiful workmanship and cinematography, loving your work
The sponsor portions are getting completely OUT OF CONTROL!!!!! Everything else was really awesome. Thanks Will!
I like my MrCool heatpump system I installed. Just for the reason you said, you can do it yourself if you've got the skills and confidence to do it.
Mrcool is awesome. My shop is always comfortable. From -14 up to 98
Cheap to operate
Man i love that design, cant wait to see it completed!
I wish my skill was as good as yours, you will definitely be a master smith.
hell yeah, algorithm boost
Amazing stuff Will. Can't wait to see where you end up with this knife.
I was told that the Damascus requirement was to prove you could make it. As the fact that you can buy Damascus billets means stock removal is still possible.
A really fascinating build... Thanks for sharing!
I love pocket knifes, and had the privlage to make a knife with des horn. Would love to see some more pocket knife builds after this one will.
Enjoying watching your journey. Good luck to achieving your goals as a Mastersmith knife maker. Stay safe.
Thanks for filming Will. 😁👍🏼
Wow. So much going on. The challenges you find! Bless you and thanks for sharing.
Good luck. Work hard, but do not rush it.
👍☀️👍
Great job. Thank you 😊
"Very science-tith-nical" is how I will now describe all functions of knifemaking when I explain things. It's perfect lol
You still need a well insulated and weatherstripped building to effectively heat and cool a building.
Bill's best pupil, Luke Swenson, isn't very far from you, over in Idaho. It'd be great to see you two collaborate on something, and even better if I got to meet you next time I see Luke!
Engagement for the algorithm
Nice design 👍
You got this
Genuine question here, when you abandon a project what do you do with the cracked blade, or the damascus billet with a bad weld? I would imagine, the failures would be cut into small pieces to be used again, perhaps in a canister. Or do they get sent to scrap to be remelted into new steel?
Too short tang my friend, maybe in the next you master this, your work is awesome 👏🏻👏🏻
You might want to get those outside units at least 20 inches off the ground for the winter or you will have icing issues as the defrosted water cant drain away.
Good luck in your quest to become a master blade smith. You can do it . . . go git 'em.
Will, have you been doing weights? Your biceps look enormous!
NICE!
Good video.
This guy twists better than Chubby Checker!
Anyway I'm wishing you good luck
❤ u will. Good job ❤
Make a 'rybička' type next!
You should send the other knife to Brandon at Inheritance Machining for his "box of shame" - LOL!
Yeah, but at this rate, Brandon has to build a larger box every other week.
every time my minimalist mind see how much steel is ground away it screams "what about he children"
Have you ever made a blade with all the dimascus offcuts?
I was telling myself that you should be making at least three or four times the steel in case of a mistake and if not just so you can make more or a fixed blade too for your test
Will!! How are you not breaking your edge around 01:50 when you snap your knife close? Is it a special mount? It hurt me physicaly each time I heard the snap.
If concerned about the tang, is there a reason you could not take down some of the spring? .. that area is not contributing to the tension strength.
I have nothing more to say but this .
Is there a size limit on the folder for testing
You sure you're ready for this?
Maybe give it another year
Why can´t you take away from the spring? Wouldn't that do the same thing?
If spring gets too small and too "springy" it can close on forward cuts and injure user.
Please next intro: Welcome to my 3rd blade and how I make a mistake.
Will, the editor did not leave the shot of the end grain of the pieces you cut up so we could see the pattern. I tried to stop the film, but the welding arc obscured the patterning. 08:15.
Do you watch Royer Knives and if so what do you think of his new sword build?
Love the channel n the content, but the failures are becoming a little bit too common place 😅...Step it up Will 😂...just playin
ENGAGEMENT BABEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY !!!! FOR THE ALGORYTHIM
Can you remake the spring instead?
Inheritance Machining just built a nice big box of shame you could feed that hollow Bowie to
"Legos of adults" = Legos.
SLAP COUNT = 2 (plus 2 big slaps, not counted)
👍👍👍
(In a super sarcastic voice,) excuse you!!!... Lego's are for adults 🧐🤣
poll: what does will always say at the start of a video?
like for 'howdy'
dislike for 'haddy'
3rd comment keep it coming. Good luck Will
Nice puns at 4:11 and 4:21 😅
Have you ever experienced when the knife slips on the belt sander and you accidentally put your finger against the belt instead?😖😖😖
🤜🤛
As a non American 10 000th of an inch is just hopeless to understand 😂 Have to convert it every time to understand what you mean.
What if you did not need air conditioning?
We are not hot here or cold.
Check into moving to a better less expensive life. Jim
I hope throwing it in the bin was just for the camera. That thing is still worth a decent amount as it is.
lint gap = knife belly button
Unlike Alec, Will will make an 8 knife video series on different knives and scrap all of them. Alec will milk one knife for a year.
They are different smiths. And Alec does a lot of quicker knife series now. Some of us preferred when Alec did 14 part series about a single project because of the time and detail he put into it. Make fossil Damascus out of the failures
You do like to challenge challenge yourself
Metal fillings in your hands constantly..I don’t like gloves much either
You are not taking the easiest route, are you you?
First
Lame
This is a comment
I'm not convinced.
I know Nicholas Knale. Nicholas Knale is a friend of mine. You sir, are no Nicholas Knale.
WTF! Am I ever going to watch you finish any project?
Why do a slipjoint for your mastersmith project? Clearly, you're not a master slipjoint smith. It's unnecessary.. why? oh yea. It's for the clout
