Lol
we won’t know what they ment until we watch the video
Your efforts are actually insane!
I like the sprinkled galaxy! That will always be favorite design!
You did great
as someone who throws pottery, this made my whole day watching you two struggle then succeed with this, it reminds me back when I first started!
I did 2 years of it in school and I absolutely got second-hand frustration watching this. I remember my hatred for the wheel like it was yesterday, but it was actually 2004. I was a hand-building machine, though!
@@angieemm Me too, including raku pottery. It was frustrating to not be there to help. lol
Same
same~! Brings me back to when I used to have a hard time even centering 😂
I had an entire year of trying to figure out how to center things on the wheel in high school and could never get it! We had kick wheels though so not sure if that makes a difference. I have always wanted to try again.
"Is that centered?" One of my instructors always said "If you have to ask, it's not." It took me years to understand what he meant, because (1) it took years to really achieve true centering and (2) when you've actually got a centered piece there's no doubt it's centered.
You two did great. What a fun video.
Just like milk, if you have to ask if it's spoiled, it's not. You WILL know without a shadow of a doubt that your milk is spoiled just by smelling
Evan did great at centring on that cheap wheel, they aren't great! You both did so good for your first try! To centre, wedge your elbow into your hip and lock your wrist to the splash tray. Push forward with the palm of your dominant hand and use your other hand to keep it steady and then engage your bicep. Full speed for centring, then go slower the taller and wider it gets. And make sure your hands stay wet or the clay will stick to them.
You here??
for a stunt dog you sure know a lot about pottery! (but seriously, I appreciate the tips! it was so much harder to brace myself than I expected)
@@EvanAndKatelyn Haha, hot to get the stunts in somewhere! Guys find centring a lot easier because of the muscle strength needed, but with a good wedged elbow it gets easier. It's fun once you get the hang of it, your pots looked adorable!
k'eyush now doing pottery and youtube comments?
Jodi trained Key so well, he no longer speaks. Now he posts comments about pottery
This is the most R-rated E&K episode I've ever seen. Also, it seems you both have learned the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi. This is the concept of accepting the impermanence and imperfection of things. Well done!
Not so simple, I'm afraid. But ok, I guess?
I noticed that! I LOVED it! It's like they just suddenly relaxed and let their hair down.
Im # 556
Came here to say the same thing haha. My bf and I just kept looking at each other, like... Do they hear what they're saying??
"Just the tip..." ... Way too many to quote
@@dl8406 "we're not that kind of channel." - E&K
"Don't let the clay boss you around" was the first thing my instructor told us when I started pottery on the wheel. I'm not kidding, word for word.
me too! 😂😂😂 i remember when i took pottery classes the first month was a constant battle to center the clay and not have jiggly hands
Similarly mine said "Now you kick that clay's ass or it will kick yours"
As a professional potter this made my week! Y’all did great for a first try! Your clay was probably not wet enough to start though. You have to wedge water into it (and that is long before you bring it to the wheel. That step makes a huge difference). I’d love to see you try again sometime! 😁
I was thinking the same thing! Katelyn's clay could work well for future projects, with some research on wedging clay, especially those more earthy bricks
Though, I'm definitely not a pro!😂
Yeah, I was thinking that too. It’s a finicky thing to get the consistency right. I swear I had to call my sister more than once and ask her to “water my clay” in advance of me coming home...
@@therussianprincess7036 thats a thing to say, good to know 😂 but seriously: does she just put like the whole block in water or do you make her wedge it?
@@derAtze I can’t really ask her to properly prep it bc she’s got school so all she does is make sure there’s enough water in my clay bucket so that it doesn’t take me ages to get it into a working consistency when I come in. I ask her about a week before my arrival so that it absorbs enough moisture for me to not have too difficult of a time with it.
as someone who's done ceramics for a few years but only started throwing last year, you guys seriously did really good!!! it looked as though evan's clay was too soft and katelyn's too hard. if you wanted to do this again, here are some tips I've gathered from my teachers!
- getting the clay ready to be thrown is called wedging, and though the movements are similar to kneading, you're actually trying to do the opposite! wedging is to get any air pockets out of the clay, but since you guys are using air-dry, and brand-new-from-the-bag clay, there shouldn't be any air bubbles, and won't make your pieces explode :D
- when throwing, remember to brace yourself firmly! plant your elbows into your thighs and don't let them move, especially when centering at the beginning! if you aren't rooted firmly, the clay will be moving you instead of you moving the clay.
- it's ok if its not perfectly centered! it will probably get a bit off-center as you shape it anyhow. eventually, you will get it "good enough" to move on :)
- keep the clay wet at all times, and having your hands coated in slip (the "gooey") isn't a bad thing! if the clay surface isn't coated in water while you're shaping it, the friction will throw it off-balance and make it much more difficult to do what you want it to.
- re-centering it after you've opened it, like what katelyn did, is called collaring, and is essential!
- and the faster the wheel is spinning, the bigger adjustments you will make. so when centering, the wheel should be spinning as fast as possible, and then you can slow it down once you open it up. generally try to avoid touching your piece if the wheel isn't spinning
I learned something new. Thanks!
thank you for the tips!
Oh I love the tips for not so strong people. In teaching videos, they usually show how it should be done but sometimes you just can't do it like that and need different tips like these! 😊
@@EvanAndKatelyn something my ceramics professor told me to help root myself was to put your elbow as close to your hip to steady yourself! Great job though! Loved this video. ❤️
Thank u for the tips also I am just starting pottery
Throwing on a wheel is actually super hard if you're a beginner, so you did really well for your first time! The only tip I'll give you is that centering isn't just getting it in the center of the wheel. It also applies to how the clay moves when on the wheel. If your clay is wobbling when the wheel is on, it's not centered. My teacher taught us to center by cupping the side of the clay with one hand, and cupping the top with your palm. Elbows should be locked and on your knees. I'm really small, so I had to lean over my clay and use my body weight to center. Some people make it look really easy, but if you don't have the muscles, the clay will kick your butt. I am so proud of how well your pieces turned out! You guys did great! I hope you guys do more, even if it's not for a video.
THE END EDIT/SONG IS SO AMAZING!!!!! Made me laugh so much while also being very impressed by the editing skills!
just a little something special for those who watch til the end
@@EvanAndKatelyn Thank You! Made my day
Omg! Me too! I was laughing so hard! The humor perfectly matches mine.
I loved it 🥰
@@EvanAndKatelyn It is sooo good. Made my day 🥰
Just a couple tips from a dude who took two ceramics classes in art school. 🙂
4:43 pretty sure that katelyn is referring to the technique of centering green ware clay when you are trimming a piece before bisque firing the piece. Try smudging some clay in the center of the bat before putting the clay on in order to help stick the clay on better 👍🏼
20:37 try jamming your elbow into your leg just above the knee and or into your hips. It’ll help lock your arm in place so you can keep your arms more uniform which helps prevent wonky uneven walls.
22:59 if you kneed the clay more it 1) removes air bubbles that can cause a piece to explode in the kiln and 2) softens the clay a little bit more and makes it slightly more workable.
Kaitlyn's frustration with not being able to do it even after watching tutorials is so relatable! I always think I can do something after I've put in the TH-cam hours
oh my goodness Katelyn you did such a good job of editing, the piece at the end is amazing 🤩
LOVE IT!
My friend who makes stuff out of clay professionally said it had taken her a year to learn to property center things on the wheel, but here's Katelyn being shocked and appalled she can't do it in an hour. 🤣
A year seems pretty long. No offense to your friend. I think it took me a few classes.
Some of us think we can master everything on the first try 🤣
@@3DJapan I think some people have a natural aptitude for it. I took ceramics in HS for 2 years and we worked on the wheel the first 6 months of the second year. I was not able to learn how to center properly unfortunately. I was relatively decent with hand building though.
Yeah, I think it's like balance poses in yoga - some people get them easily, some people struggle forever. My friend teaches ceramics now, and centering is something a lot of people struggle with, according to her experience with students. And yes, some people get it faster, but some people never get it at all.
@@LVDani i’m starting my third year of ceramics (highschool) soon. ive always been an artist and i’m good at hand building sculptures but when we did the wheels (only for like a few days to make some simple bowls) i hated it. i wasn’t bad but my teacher poked the center holes for us which made it much easier lol
Evan's pot being higher on one side was actually perfect for the design. It's like a loafing cat!
*sees Evan and Katelyn posted and gets excited*
*Sees it's almost 40 mins long and gets even more excited*
Oh wow I didn't even notice it was so long that was enjoyable all the way through
It it the best when you forget it is there post day and you see a new video

yesss the longer their vids the better lol
The more bloopers you leave in without editing them out, the more fun it is to watch. You're such a cute couple!!
I love these Cheap vs Expensive videos! Can’t wait to see how everything turns out.

Cheapskate vs expensive… -skate
so glad you like the series! We love making these
@@EvanAndKatelyn y’all should do chemistry with everyday items like from other TH-cam videos, let the chaos unfold. 😂
Being someone who went to school to learn this, this is so entertaining. I enjoy every aspect of pottery and ceramics and the wheel was my most challenging but fun experience i have ever done.
The amount of dirty jokes + the price being 69 leads me to think this was set up 😂 it’s too perfect
BRO THEY REALLY HAD ME AT 24:28
AND IT SAID POT AND I WAS LIKE oh- okay good
I was to smash the like button, but my blasting finger is getting tired. 😅
i haven't watched the whole thing yet but omg why is the cheap one 69 dollars like is this for real
You guys complete each other. I love how Evan, you made a bowl shape like what she wanted, and Katelyn...well you made more like a tiny vase thing like how he wanted on your first try. I love watching you guys be a team and encouraging each other and your videos in general
If I remember back to high school nearly 40 years ago (!!!!) you lock your elbow into your hip and use more the base of your hand than fingers to get it centred. Then pulling the shape up and pushing it down a few times helps to condition the clay to make it more workeable before creating any openings or shape. Katelyn’s clay seemed to be a drier/stuffer kind so would have benefitted from that I think - dispersing some water throughout it would have made it more pliable and she wouldn’t have had to fight with it so much.
But I’m still really impressed with how you both did. And your final creations were sooo cute! Good on you Evan for persevering with your design. It turned out really cute. Congrats!
I'd love to see you guys take a pottery class somewhere and get to get your stuff actually fired in the kiln and stuff!! I'm actually a ceramics minor at art school right now and it's tons of fun!
As a potter, seeing this pop up for me is amazing, made my morning! I did also love how right off the bat it’s clear that they did a lil bit of research or know their stuff from the past cause Evan calls it throwing right away.
Finally an episode with no innuendo or suggestive moments.
You both crack me up so much!
The carrot nearly killed me 😅😅😅
My blasting finger is getting tired!
i didnt know it was that kind of channel. :D
"Lubin' the rod"
That sound though 🤣
this reminded me of my final clay project in 6th grade. i made a ball, gave it eyes and ears and little buttcheeks and turned it in titled "Rodney". i not only got an A but the class voted mine as the "winner" in the art competition for our class. i lost rodney in a corn maze later that year, but I like to think he's out there on some fascinated Archeologists shelf while they ponder what ancient people worshipped this mysterious god. more likely it got crushed by a harvester but I can dream.
katelyn is literally me in my first semester of ceramics absolutely struggling to center the clay with my noodle arms
I had a kids toy pottery wheel back in the early 80s. I loved it even though I was (a) a kid and (b) a complete novice. Then I did it again as a teen with a professional pottery wheel and the difference between wheels is phenomenonal. Still a lot of fun though!
As someone who does ceramics quite often, the clay does coat your hands a lot, but its there to keep your pinkys and hands from getting hurt on the wheel (I have scars from it lol), and you both did really good for first timers!!!
I have that exact same expensive pottery wheel! It’s like less than half the price where I’m from!
Also I relate so much to Katelyn not being able to get her hand to stop moving! That’s my same struggle. 🥲 I tried the same techniques the first time too only to have everything go wrong just like with what happened with Katelyn.😭✋🏻
i love how you guys are so comfortable with just playing and experimenting, it really inspires me as a maker and an artist
Yeah there's no pressure to be perfect.
I watch a motivational speaker talk about how perfection is the way humans try to avoid critism and it come from insecurity. Thought that was super interesting.
100% this comment
I know how silly this may sound, but you guys are genuinely my comfort channel, every time I watch you guys I just instantly light up. This is one of my favorite videos just because of its fun chaos, and it brings me so much genuine joy to watch your videos. You guys have no idea how happy you make me on a daily basis and keep me going every day, thank you for being an amazing channel :)
As a potter, this is exactly what I needed today. Thank you all for this amazing video. Also huge shout to Dante at Earth Nation! He taught me how to throw as well. :)
You lock your elbow into your leg to brace your arm for centering. And use your palms on the center and top to center it. Art teacher told me that monks go years just learning how to center. It is really zen to throw pottery though
I would love to see an E&K + Moriah Elizabeth collab where you guys make something for Moriah to paint / customize. It would be awesome!
I love this so much! Learning a new skill and showing everyone it's ok to mess up. It looks so much easier than it actually is when looking at professionals doing it. This is like therapy for a perfectionist like me.. :D Love you guys! Thanks for this wholesome content! :)
As someone who is in school to become a professional potter and has a lot of experience you guys did really good for your first time, And it was hilarious to watch Evan on the tiny toy wheel! 😂
As a person who takes ceramics and works with clay, I felt all the pain you guys went through 😅.You guys still did a great job!
The only experience i have with ceramics is obsessively watching great pottery throwdown and all the potters in the comments encouraging y'all make me so happy ❤️❤️
i typically dont watch yall to sleep (i tend to put on bob ross or a repair channel) but i had a fever last night and just needed something familiar and comfortable (not that bob ross isnt) and this video helped a lot :)
2:45 There's a complete and total roll reversal here, featuring a rare visit with Chaos Katelyn and her foil, Instruction-Exacting Evan
3:38 "Lubin' the rod!!" >;)
Evan: **keeps moving, unperturbed**
hehehe
as someone who managed a ceramic studio, yes, yes you do need that protection if you like your room. The clay itself may not fly everywhere from spinning like you think, but the ceramic dust will be there forever. You will still find that dust years later
As someone who took 3 years of sculpture in high school you did really well!! It surprised me how well Evan centered the clay on that tiny cheep wheel. Good job!! Would love to see more clay content :D
Wait cats can’t do sculptures! You are one smart cat
The absolute BOP at the end!! ❤❤ I know I’m late but I enjoyed this video!!
Omg great episode, definitely one of my favorites! You guys nailed it for your first time throwing on a wheel. My mom was a ceramics artist and instructor so growing up I was always in a pottery studio or making a mess in the back of her classroom. When I saw you'd covered half the garage in plastic it felt just like home. Thanks for bringing back some good memories!
I did a tiny bit of pottery in university, and am by no means an expert, but I think with the tougher clay if you knead it longer it might be easier. Also center if is the hardest part so don’t feel bad! This is an awesome first attempt and your painting is fantastic
I've been subscribed to you guy's channel since you were selling coaters on Etsy, and I've never been disappointed with a single video. But today... as a novice potter myself, It is hard the first couple of tries, centering being the most difficult fundamental step to master, I'm only at minute 9 of the video and I'm still highly entertained throught Evan's "struggle". Don't ever stop doing what you guys do!
thank you!
IIRC, the reason your hands were abraded was because something called grog is added to clay. I think grog is finely-ground fired clay bits and it gives the clay "body," so it won't get all soft and slumpy from too much water while you're throwing.
So the more of the velvety, gloppy "slip" (that's what that stuff is called) you get on your hands (and tools and sponges and clothes), the more you have removed from the pot -- and the higher grog-to-clay ratio, hence, the rougher the clay.
Grog's great for novices because it makes the clay sturdy -- but yeah, when you're trying to center and you're forcing your hand down on the wheel, it's like 40 grit sandpaper!
that is exactly what it reminds me of! it's still painful sometimes, but it doesn't keep me from throwing anymore
I took a couple ceramics classes in high school. I’ve missed doing it, so much so that I’ve been looking for supplies…..wheels, a kiln…..watching this, I wanted SO MUCH to reach through the screen and help you with the wheel throwing…..but y’all did a pretty good job!!!! I love the little pots!! Also, thank you for all of your videos. My kids, husband and I LOVE your wackiness, science lessons, artistic abilities, and projects.
if you have a local community college near you, it may be worth it to take an open studio ceramics class there! that’s what i do, and the tuition is much cheaper than buying all the supplies myself + access to a studio and expert advice! i only have to buy my own clay! and the company is great, getting to get inspiration from my classmates.
@@themothjam I’ve looked into that, too….I haven’t found one with a schedule that works with mine. I need to look some more.
I’m just an arts and crafts supply collector and I like being able to do whatever whenever the mood strikes. It would be a pain to redo the electrical for the kiln, though.
@@jw8223 investing in at home kiln and wheel could get expensive but that would be so cool! and you could hand make gifts for people!!
As a person who always gets pottery vids on their TikTok it was so satisfying watching the two of you improvise and do things I actually see the pros do.
I remember there being a lot more water usage when I took pottery class. E & K, ya’ll prob need more water on your hands. Also take a piece of clay + water to set foundation position easier so main clay piece sticks better.
I loved every second of this video brings soo much nostalgia when I first started pottery, centering the clay was a roadkillll! Ugh the many videos and hours of trial and error to finally making a small candle holder! Your video sure brought soo many memories of those days! The pure joy of nostalgia!
As someone who did a couple years in ceramics watching you both struggle was pretty rough. I think katelyns clay was just too hard. I wanted to help so bad. Loved the romantic Ghost moment ❤️ and the funky dance at the end 😆
Same.....
Like do they need to fire the clay they bought? Did they get the right type of clay for beginner? Why isn't she using more water if she is getting friction burns? So many questions.
so many questions
@@jellofish1455 because she doesn’t know what it’s meant to feel like. Everyone starts somewhere and sometimes the “obvious” solution isn’t always clear to beginners:)
@@jellofish1455 I don't think it's necessarily a water issue. Think of plasticine, it's quite firm to start of with but with warmth and friction it softens. Air dry clay is much softer.
As a ceramics Bfa, I found that for centering clay, the faster the better. It's when you start raising the walls that you want to go a bit slower. Also, as someone who is a bit more petite (like katelyn) you want your arms/elbows locked in with your body to brace your arms so your arms are more stable.
This was already a 10/10 video, but the end killed me! 😂😂👏
And great job on the pottery!! I took a 6 week pottery course and you guys really impressed me with your first attempts!
Y’all did good for your first time. It took me almost a full 2 weeks just to get centering down in my ceramics class.. this is definitely like a practice makes perfect kind of hobby. Keep at it!
I learned how to throw a few months ago in my ceramics class and you guys actually did amazing, it’s definitely a learning curve and it’s also very dependent on the clay and how you are doing that day. I’ve had days where I can pull a whole project and The next day I can’t pull a single thing without ripping it
I love how family friendly this is 😀
I've been learning pottery for 5 months and I still struggle to center properly, it actually does require a lot of strength to remain steady against the week so props to you guys for making such a good effort
Oh my goodness that freestyle at the end gave me so much life and joy! I always look forward to their videos because this is the kind of creativity, joy, and chaos I need in my life.
Ok is it me or are E&K really at some point went from 100% family friendly to 90% family friendly but the 10% that aren't are just so funny.
I love them as a couple so much, so wholesome to watch.
As a bit of a pottery doer person myself there are so many things I wish I could tell them but it was much better than my first wheel experience good job bros, much love!!!
We have a ceramics lab at the Akron makerspace and its very popular. The better wheels are great but it does take some skill to get the clay to do what you want. Definatly take some classes, it's fun and you'll get to make some pots, or a mess, it's still fun!
I loved this video. I absolutely love you twos humor. And I love love love your editing! It's always so fun, funny, and up beat. Even your adds are enjoyable to watch. I never skip thru them like some others. Thank you for your content.
Nothing better then a cup of coffee on and an episode of Evan and Katelyn on my Saturday morning! Seriously, it’s something I look forward too every week!
little tip for starting your puck. pinkies resting on plate, elbows against inner thighs press down and out ward with arms and press thighs inward at the same time. this will kinda lock your arms in and reduce wobble... throwing clay is finding the happy balance of extreme force and gentlness...
Omg the hip-hop video at the end was the absolute best! Katelyn has the moves!
I love this channel. So much love coming to y’all and I’m glad you could make these shenanigans into a full job.
Katelyn, you are a genius editor. This was funny regardless but you zooming in on the carrot tool and the music video, chefs kiss 🤌
Fun fact I learned from my ceramic class
1. You knead clay so that there won’t be any air bubbles that will form so that when you cook the clay in a kiln it won’t explode
2. Centering it also ensures that there are fewer air bubbles so that it again won’t explode 😂
3. You use the wire tool to cut the clay object off the plate
4. Glaze will be like forever glue so always wipe the bottoms so that you won’t as my teacher said “have to use a sledgehammer to get off” 😂😱
But yeah it was a fun class we did horse hair pottery and multiple types of pottery enjoyed this video so much and it made me laugh when you guys were like how do you knead clay? 😂 oh and the suits aren’t overkill I had an apron AND a towel I wrapped on my legs and I still got super dirty.
Oh and a huge health risk warning make sure to keep any and all clay throwing stations clean and not dry as silica dust AKA clay dust when inhaled will make u sick and have clay on ur lungs forever. So please be safe!
real question: why does centering it help with bubbles?
@@gmiill when you center clay, you push it in, cone it up, then push it down a couple times and that motion gets rid of the air bubbles in the clay so it’s less likely to explode! after it’s centered, then you can open it up to make a bowl or a cup using your fingers! (i’ve been throwing clay for a couple months now)
Yeahh I didn't realize everyone else brought aprons or towels and I left covered in slip my first day or ceramics class😂
@@SpookyscarySayge 🤣 most did in my class but not me although it was hilarious to see all the popular gals going over the sink with paper towels wiping the dust off their black legging and being like “hey do I have any clay on my butt” 🤣
@@OceanSongBird6355 I gave up on trying to clean it off me, I'm sure I did have clay on my butt tho😂
So ready for an E&K mix tape. "Hey, hey, it's goin'!" I'm in for this!!
I did ceramics in college and really enjoyed it so this brings back fond memories.
I've been trying to learn for the past couple of years. everything you went through is normal, its so frustrating attempting to center at first, it does get easier but sometimes after a long break I can struggle again.
the zooms on the carrot tool fondling during the cheaper kit got me cackling
My 6 yo grandson did pretty good with the Nat Geo one. I helped with centering and paused the instruction video for each step to give him time to figure it out with my verbal coaching. As they say, "slow and steady wins the race." We haven't painted it yet but he comes back next week! I wish I knew how to share a photo. It's so fun! There is a "House of Clay" a few blocks away here in OK, and now I'm seriously considering a class.
I’ve been waiting for something to watch and here come Evan and Katelyn with another banger
As a ceramic artist I personally enjoyed watching you guys try it lol, like it looks so easy to do until you actually have the opportunity to try
i've been subbed since 100k and the humor on your videos is always so great, freaking love you guys and your projects!!
Skin boi and catpot are wonderful and the ‘rap’ at the end? *chefs kiss*
That was so pleasantly uncomfortable to watch 😂
Tornadoing is now officially a new bedroom performance 😂😂😂
hahaha "pleasantly uncomfortable" is my new favorite descriptor
As someone who just started throwing I really relate to the struggle of centering, it really just takes practice! This was super fun to watch!
Omg the song at the end is the best thing ever. I need it on Spotify
I haven't laughed like that in awhile 😂😂😂 this is legit one of my favorite videos now! You both are hilarious and the song at the end had me in tears!!!! Great video guys and I'm so glad your pots worked out❤️
3:40 Lovin seeing Katelyn make a ~dirty~ joke and absolutely cheesin the whole time
Did this whole video have more innuendo than ever?
@@LucenProject the first ten minutes definitely do
I love the relationship even and katelyn have its so cute also love the ads so fun
One trick with the pro wheel is to put your elbows in your stomach / chest area and lean your body into it to push. It helps keep your hands stable.
36:42 AYOOOOOO THEM BARS!!! I love it!! Y'all are the best xD
To be fair, I took an eight week class with unlimited clay and didn't make anything much better than Evan did. Centering is the worse. Just go up and down over and over again until the clay doesn't wobble. I think your main problem was not using enough water at the right time.
Something that's really helpful that I was taught in my Ceramics class. Is that you take your elbows and you brace them towards your inner thighs or against your inner thighs to basically have your arms be grounded to your body. You need to be making sure that you're sitting pretty close to the pottery wheel to do this to make sure that you're at a comfortable angle. But when you do this it makes the centering process so much easier
I took two courses in ceramics in college and taught it in two high schools. For a very short time doing it, you guys did OK. I was surprised that the wheel Katelyn used was as good as it was for only $241. It looked good for starters. By the way, you will also require a kiln as big as your pieces. That could be expensive and require another building!
Apparently this clay doesn't need firing. I was wondering how they would fire it through the whole video.
@@3DJapan Yeah. I imagine it's not food-safe, but that wasn't their goal!
The key thing I learned when I used a pottery wheel back in high school and college is: More water! The sponge is your friend! It keeps the clay from sticking to your hands and helps prevent your hands from getting friction burns. If you feel like it's too wet, the dry sponge helps remove excess water.
The type of clay you use also matters, I always preferred working with porcelain because it's so much smoother and easier to manipulate.
"We're not that type of channel"
*proceeds to BE that type of channel*
i don't know what you're talking about...
It was so funny to watch Katelyn try and throw on the fancy wheel, since when I took ceramics classes I had the exact same problems and frustrations.
I just want to say, you guys actually saved me from suicide, about a year ago I was weeks behind on school work, my mom didn’t listen to me, my dad rarely saw me, and I hated school. I decided I would stab myself and sat on my bed with a knife the night before I went back to school after winter break. You guys had such good content (First candle vid) it distracted me until 6 AM and by then my family was awake and I just couldn’t manage to do it then. Thank you.
They really do bring so much light into the world. I’ve watched their stuff late at night when I’ve needed a reason to smile or distract me from my own mental stuff. Glad you didn’t end up doing it and I really hope you’re in a better place these days ❤️
It sounds trite, but things really do get better. Adulting is hard, but being a teen is harder. Keep finding your joy in the little things - like E&K awesomeness!
The small things often do help you keep going! Thank you for sharing your story. It will let other people know they're not alone in their struggles. I hope that you have gotten help and are being supported and cared for.
Just leaving some love for you ❤❤❤
Top tip for centering... coning your clay (bringing it up into a cylinder and smushing back down into a puck on the wheel a couple times) is super important and definitely helps you get a nice centered puck. It aligns the clay particles so it’ll work in better, warms up the clay, and you can control how the puck formation a lot easier
I'll be honest Evan, I've had similar issues with Poscas reacting weird to glaze. I got really into painting rocks over quarantine, and the poscas always needed more coats than you think because they went transparent with glaze, it was weird!
Okay but that overalls outfit looked so cute on Katelyn like yes girl!!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Okay... Hands down to you guys cause this is the most I've laughed this hard in such a long time 🤣🤣 you guys are honestly the best 😁😁
I'm 20 minutes in and I can't believe there isn't a shot of editor Katelyn just DYING laughing and red faced.
