      In the late 50s 🤔 I think it was, they tried a Smell O Vision type trip. You know based on the Scratch and Sniff concept that later became stickers. I may have the years wrong but they tried it. You'd hold a card & then get involved 😅 pretty cool I guess

      Significantly more films are made these days (and not, on aggregate, any worse quality). All you need to do is go past the cineplex, and find an indie cinema to check them out. Failing that, new films are all over streaming services.

      the original plan was to have jackie gleason playing the part of the bandit, the film was originally going to be called smokey and the bandit 3, smokey IS the bandit but that idea didnt do well in tests creenings and they got the snowman involved. If you watch the film in certain parts you can see jackie gleason dressed up as the bandit during some of the stunt scenes.

    • @bsanaee
      @bsanaee 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rupert-j8f That's hilarious. They should've had Gleason dressed in Han Solo's clothes at some point just to really confuse the hell out of everyone.
      It seems to me like you can change a scene or an ending if it doesn't test well, but if the premise of the movie doesn't work it should be scrapped as unsalvageable (edit: or stay true to your artistic vision and release as-is; I men if it's going to be a stinker either way ...). Well, let's see if we can bullshit something here so we can push this into theaters and get some kind of return on investment is so cynical.

    The only good 3D movie that came out that year was Friday The 13th: 3: 3D
    And that's because paramount actually spent a fortune developing a completely new system for filming and showing 3D films that required them to replace existing screens with their new ones that were designed specifically too work with their movie.
    It still holds up today pretty well if you watch it in 3D on the bluray collection.

    Smokey and the Bandit was originally intended for Jackie Gleason to play both Smokey AND the Bandit (or Smokey impersonating the Bandit, whichever), which sounds a LOT better today than what we got. But everyone back then got confused, so they attempted to rework the film and made it even worse.
    I have NO idea why they bothered making Sting II with a completely different cast. They didn't HAVE to use the same names as the original film - it could have been a sequel in name only focusing on a second sting against a completely different bad guy. It COULD have worked, but no one was even trying.

      @@CaptainSpalding72 There were two schools of thought. Gleason would play the double role as part of the endless chase (therefore, very few trick shots). Or he would be impersonating the Bandit (which is what the trailer implies).
      Either way, it would be a lot of work, but Gleason always thrived on that. He would have treated it as a challenge. I think that would have been fun to see.

Burt Reynolds often cited the commercial failure of "Stroker Ace" as being the end of his career as a leading man in movies because "audiences didn't want to see another Burt Reynolds car movie". He was never able to fully recover from it bombing both critically and financially.

      And then he put it to the test in 1984 with Cannonball Run II. D'oh!! After burning out car movies, he moved on to being a movie cop (I would say that he burned that out, too, but the fuse never got lit): City Heat, Heat, Malone, Rent-a-Cop, Physical Evidence, Cop and 1/2, Hard Time, Hard Time: The Premonition, Pups, Hard Time: Hostage Hotel. Reynolds played a cop 10 times in 15 years and every role sucked, really sucked, as in they drew vacuum. When nobody would cast him as a cop anymore, he played a bit-part in a Stallone car movie, 2001's Driven, a racecar movie that nobody ever heard of.

    I absolutely love Staying Alive. It did well in the box office and the 5 Bee Gee songs are the best they did in the 80s. I didn't see this movie as a teen in the 80s but only recently on TV. The scene where Tony bumps into Stallone is the BEST cameo ever!. The movie is coming out on 4K early in 2023 by Kino Lorber.
