- 3 full weeks of research later...I've officially reviewed EVERY CW Flash Villain. All the way from Reverse Flash (season 1 villain) to Despero (Season 8 villain). I'm reviewing these flash villains based on 4 categories: plot, match-up, evilness, and looks. 4 very essential things when it comes to a GREAT flash villain.

I don’t completely disagree with you on Zoom’s motivation being somewhat lackluster, but in a way, the fact that he’s simply doing it out of ego, out of wanting to be faster, just because he’s that detached from his humanity and absolutely insane…
that’s kind of what makes him terrifying. Whereas most villains in the flash have some sort of redeeming quality, zoom really has none because there’s no humanity to build on. It makes him feel like The Joker, or Carnage (The comic version). But that’s just my opinion.
Your point is defo valid, I was taking a more relatability/story based approach so I may have glossed over that fact a little bit. Still I defo think I gave him a fair evilness rating overall

What I find funny about savitar is that his backstory is kind of goofy because we all know the main cast would still accept him as Barry and not some clone. He's literally the exact same person but from a different time so realistically nothing would change
Another fact to this is how they asked about what happened to the time remnant barry used to defeat zoom showing even more that they wouldn’t just shun him

OK well you have to think about with zoom everybody’s going to trust a guy who looks like that

Zooms back story isn't just wanting to go faster? His mum was murdered in front of him, traumatising him to the point when he sees a cutout of his mum he's left in a daze. That murder made him grow up in the system to the point it was engraved in his head that he can just kill to solve his problems. To which he then just normalised within himself completely. Wants to go faster, makes drug, kills people. When we meet zoom his drive isn't to go faster? He uses that facade to cover his actual drive which is to save his own life after he poisons himself with V9. He then tries to turn Barry to prove to him but more himself that their the same, kills his dad, then tries to blow up the multiverse so that then he can kill Barry and be the fastest. His goal is pretty much the same as Thawnes. Thawne wants to ruin Barry's life and be better than him, faster than him. Their goals are pretty much 1 in the same just zoom is less tactical and knows less about the speed force than thawne
Also him saying zoom without his mask isn't scary and takes off points. Thawne was a skinny nerdy looking dude in a wheelchair. The villain isn't supposed to look scary while trying to deceive the hero. If his face was all scarred and voice was raspy then I'm sure no one wouldve thought he was the good guy. I'm starting to think this guy didn't pay attention to the show.
totally see where your coming from, but once again like you mentioned 'his actual drive was to save his life after he poisoned himself with v9' just proves that this all started because of him wanting to go faster. Meaning that would be his technical origin
@@KoshoReacts technical origin or not, his goal changed. In then became his goal to show Barry he was the same as him. Zoom when it comes down to it was a serial killer but he was the only one like himself, that changed when he learned about Barry and his backstory. He wanted to make another zoom, one that could take his place. Zoom knew the only way to stop him blowing up the multiverse was to die. He gave that option to Barry. Kill me or the multiverse dies. Barry just outsmarted him, zoom didn't expect him to do something so drastic.

Anyone who doesn't think a little girl villain would be terrifying and an amazing antagonist for a bunch of cheery child-less adults, is the weird one.
I mean, it's just so perfect of a match up. He can't just punch a kid, but kids are scary once they realize what creativity is. Add in the psychotic nature of children and the inherent scariness of little girls threatening you in a sing-song voice, and you have the perfect villain

Zooms plot is so good because of the fact that he just wants to go faster. And yes, you can kind of see it as relatable because the way that he is taking literal speed “drugs” is very similar to addicts in real life. Even though it isn’t as easy to get invested in, it’s incredible that he goes to the lengths just tool be faster.
reverse flash actually went back intime to kill barry as a child not before he was born but future flash got him outta there so reverse flash thought that killing his mom would make barry so depressed that he would not become flash

But if he would not become flash then reverse flash would never get the idea of being the flash. That means reverse flash was not smart with that.
I know it's not very unique but my personal ranking:
1. Reverse Flash (obviously, he should stop getting reused though)
2. Zoom (again, obviously)
3. Savitar
4. Thinker (would be #3 if he stayed in DeVoe's body more)
5. Bloodwork
6. Cicada
7. Destro
8. Godspeed (very disappointing)
9. Eva McCulloch (very boring)
10. The Forces (just terrible)
I think my personal list would acc be VERY similar so dw we can be ununique together🥴 why the decision to make bloodwork your fav villain besides the main s1-4 villains, kinda wanna hear about where his appeal comes from
Godspeed was cool but Eva and the forces were boring i agree
if it wasn't bloodwork, it would've been cicada, but what makes bloodwork better is that there wasn't enough time for him to get super boring or terrible, while cicada ultimately became pretty weak and boring, i also think bloodwork had a good origin and his threat level was pretty high

26:30 Barry let RF kill his mom… indirectly killing her/ sentencing her to death… and killing the whole flashpoint timeline… including friends and family… that’s something that they don’t talk about in the show… every timeline they erase is an entire universe/multiverse of people that they killed
I like to think Zoom’s appeal is that (and he mentions this) Barry could’ve been the same as Zoom. Both of their loving mother’s dying, presumably to their father (Barry knew what really happened but it could also be added that absolutely nobody believed him which definitely added anger and frustration) with the main difference being that, Joe took in Barry but nobody took in Hunter/Zoom, he was completely alone. Compare this to Naruto and Gaara, both are shunned by something they can’t control but Naruto found friends and family while Gaara was all alone. Honestly, I feel like they could’ve made Zoom better than Reverse Flash if they focused more on that aspect but either way, Zoom is still awesome
Savitar on evilness is def 3.85 or higher you went past the part on how he tortured wally into trapping himself inside the speed force to make him watch his mother die and then manipulating “alchemy” and i think being able to kill someone with no remorse in their lovers face is pretty evil
Agreed and also the fact that Savitar has killed many versions of his past self just to keep one alive. Also the fact he murdered a bunch of police officers, murdered The Rival, paralyzed Wally in the future. Literally almost killing Barry, injuring Jay Garrick that it took him days to recover and a speedster is suppose to heal fast, murdered a bunch of cops making his entrance. Threatens to kill Caitlin and Cisco murders HR, makes Star Labs blow up, tries to break Barry at the end of the last fight. Like the list goes on and on, and this man puts Savitar with a low rating
I agree! Just because he does something that's morally questionable, doesn't mean he's not evil. In the end, he wants to be a god- and to do that he has to Kill Iris. Whom he once dated/married and loved. He did that thing to Wally, and similar things to others. Someone who kills and tortures with his motivations is a villain. Sure, he doesn't want to die- but that doesn't mean you should kill someone to make that happen. Killing someone so you can live is selfish and in the morally grey area (Though I belive its morally wrong). There are other villains/bad guys who kill so they can live- and they are still villains.

The reason why Zoom has a drive to go faster in the show is because originally he wants to be even more powerful, but then after he takes V9 he starts slowly dying so he wants more speed, aka stealing speed from the flash
The thing about Zoom I believe and why I like him is because it's not entirely that he wants to be faster but also what makes him want to be faster. He's a psychopath with PTSD from being raised by an abusive father who murdered his mom in front of him. He physically lacks empathy as part of what makes a psychopath and doesn't see people as people making him more ruthless and brutal. He wants to be the fastest so he will stop at nothing and sacrifice anything but himself to get it because he values nothing more than himself. He needs to be the best because in his mind, he's the only person who's real.
Idk if he really lacked empathy why would he be traumatized by his mother's death and want Caitlin to be with him so he's not alone anymore?
@@artemis8396 He likes Caitlin but he has no respect for her. He wants to possess her like an item. Because like I said before, he feels as though he's the only real human being. Like how when you're a kid, you get that weird feeling like you're trapped in a simulation or like everyone around you are robots. Or people who view themselves as the main character and therefore should be worshipped and idolized and should always win. And not all mental disorders or something you're born with. It can come about through traumatic experiences. I'm an example of someone born to have depression because it runs in my family. But soldiers with PTSD can also have serious depression. Children are especially susceptible to these things because it happens while their brains are still developing. When the people you rely on the most, the people you depend on because you're vulnerable, inexperienced in the world, and can't fend for yourself are dead (especially when killed in front of you) or abuse and don't care for you, it teaches you you can't rely on anyone and so you develope a high level of self importance to compensate. "Only worry about yourself. Other peoples' problems don't matter." So he closes himself off to the suffering of others. He only likes Caitlin for what she can do for him. It's a transaction to him. "Make me happy and I'll let you live. If I can't have you, no one can." What he feels for her isn't real love.

Zoom was actually sick. He needed the Flash's speed to cure himself. The need for more speed was a secondary need. Even though he was already faster ever since he showed up.
Zoom also had an issue where he wanted to play both roles, hero and villain which gives him more drive.
Not necessarily his true drive was that he was sick and he needed more speed and became and addict
The thing with Zoom is that he's more of a junkie, always wanting more (in this case speed instead of drugs lol). I love him because he's essentially a deranged addict serial killer with superspeed which is really cool
This villain tier list did not include the telepathic gorilla who almost killed Barry

The reason i loved zoom was because how threatning he actually was. the fact that he didnt have any motivation made him better than thawne and savitar in my opinion, because he had nothing holding him back from killing barry or caitlin or cisco, unlike savitar and thawne which needed barry alive and well and couldnt kill his family and friends, because if savitar did then it would change the timeline drastically, and if thawne did then barry would most likely lose his mind and wouldnt help him get back to his time
The thinker doesnt encounter emotion to his caltulatios, thats what made him defeatable
Makes no sense Because he predicted that Barry would not run away from the cops in 4×09 and the only reason Barry did not run away was because...... wait a minute why did Barry not clean everything up and run away it was because he did not feel the need to run when he was with Iris😂 early in the episode that was stated by Barry, Barry's dumb but anyway Devoe would have needed to predict emotion in order to know that Barry would fall for his trap
Idk why emotion and empathy is seen as anti intellectual when it's literally one aspect of intelligence and higher empathy is correlated with higher intelligence

I think you might’ve missed Despero’s entire backstory that he spilled out to Barry that was then completely flipped to reveal that Despero was the evil one in his story, not the merciful leader he claimed to be. Though his actual background wasn’t completely clear, he did still deserve extra evil points. But his villain incentive was definitely very low and mostly unknown.

The only reason why Savitar's motives could "work" and makes "sense" were by committing character assassination to the 8th degree. Do you really think that these bunch oh pep talking, love is power jibronies could shun him just because he wasn't "The Real Barry"? I still strongly believe that it should've been Earth X Barry pulling the strings so when he gets game ended in the S3 finale, that would've set up the Crisis on Earth X Crossover.

Personally I disagree with the looks rating for Zoom and Bloodwork. I don't think Hunter Zolomon's unmasked look made him less scary, he was still pretty creepy with his acting and black eyes. Zoom's definitely a 5/5 for looks to me. As for Bloodwork I actually really liked his monster form, it was terrifying when he transformed into this massive creature literally made of gore with an exposed skull and blood bubbling out of him. I do agree with a lot of this though, I thought Zoom was a great villain but it was always a little strange to me how his main motivation for everything he did was just to be the fastest speedster.
I agree with what you said for Zoom but idk about bloodwork, I think his regular form was way better than his monster form.
I think on zooms motivations though it’s not flat out said. His drive to become faster ties into his drive for control and fear. Things he didn’t have that night when his father murdered his mom. He couldn’t do anything to stop it. He had no power and he was racked with fear. But as Zoom he has total control and fears nothing, except someone that could be faster than him.

I do disagree with season 2's plot rating. Despite Zoom's main goal being the fastest speedster alive, he also wanted to conquer entire worlds whilst being the fastest. It might not be as in depth as Thawne's but sometimes villains don't need an elaborate plan. Sometimes the simpler the motivation, the more of a villain they are. Sometimes not having a reason and just being a villain just to be a villain works really well.
for the zoom thing, zoom originally wnated more speed, but then the velocity nine started killed him so the solution he found was to take barry's speed which was a second motive that made for sense
i don't think your wrong that Zoom's backstory isn't driving enough, but i was always under the impression that zoom's motivation was being not only the fastest speedster, but the only speedster. he creates a time remnant to be the hero because he's basically bored of facing no real threat, he captures the real jay (spoilers alert), he steals barry's speed (although true it was also/or to reverse what v-9 did to him), when he realizes the time traveling Nora is a speedster in season 5 you can hear the blood lust and excitement in his voice. i'm not sure i'm right, but thats why he's a compelling bad guy to me
now that i think about it it might not be being the only speedster, but rather the rivalry that he craved. but again i could be wrong

Zoom's drive was his hunger for power and willingness to bringing Earth 2 and later the multiverse down to its knees before him.
Imma be honest, Savitard’s story may be more confusing, but trying to figure out Dumboe’s story from the flashbacks was like trying to read a scientific paper in kindergarten.

Did you notice that in some way each one of the speedster villains sound at least one bit similar even tho they distort their voice. For Example, when reverse-flash talks he has the perfect English like tom cavanagh ik that tom plays wells so ofc but even when the voice is distorted it just sounds like they got tom to talk while they distort it like savitar it has to be a different actor to voice him bc grant can't make his voice deep as the voice actor...… So it is like tom talked while cw distorted his voice.

I enicially thought that the only reason Savitar wated to kill Iris was because he wanted to take revenge from Barry and honeslty thats a villans motive, even if he is in a life or death situation i believe that if Barry was in Savitars possition he would choose to die, so i think that he is considered a villan for more than 2/5 perhaps a 3/5

Zoom is not the deepest of characters but he still have some ideologies. He believe in unleashing the darkness inside, that everyone has darkness and you can't lock it up

Zoom's goal was to get Barry's speed force cells in order to replace his
This is because velocity 9 was killing him cause of the side effects and the only way was to give him essentially new speed force cells for speed healing to help him out

Great video bro, and I love your channel my guy❤✨️can't wait for you to get to 20k, my favourite villain is rf and I think he has the best plot and backstory he loved and idolized thae flash he worked for years to become like his hero and idol and he finally got the same power and tried to be like his idol, then barry saved a crowd that he was going to save and present himself with, then thawne travelled back in time just to find out that the hero he idolized hated him and turned out to be his enemy at the same time thawne realized he was never going to be like the flash instead he was going to be the flash's enemy that had been forgotten in thawne's time, if you were in his shoes at that day you'd be broken and devastated, so thawne did everything he could to become better and faster than the flash and travelled back in time to defeat him and ruin him, but he ended up getting stuck in the 21st centry, and in s1 he wanted to get back home to his time no matter the cost, which is a really great motivation, if you were stuck far in the past you would do anything to get back to your time, also i love his vibration and red eye glow, zoom and savitar are my second favourites, but there is a problem with zoom's drive and motivation though

personally zoom is my #1 he was just so incredibly badass he literally killed himself in front of barry and he was just so incredibly ahead that basically all hope was lost. His sheer presence, it was just overwhelming. When he showed up, you expected at least one person to die. Just his VOICE was menacing.
The only person who actually “already won” more than Zoom was DeVoe, but he didn’t have the badassery that Zoom had, nor the epicness.
Honestly this video is more entertaining than some of the shows in the verse
Devoe’s plan to make everybody dumb reminds me or the lizards plan to turn everyone into lizards for peak condition in tasm 💀💀

I definitely agree with most of what you say about Zoom, but you also got to take into consideration that he was dying. That is why he wanted Barry's speed so much. The V-9 serum caused cell degeneration and the only way he could stop it was organic speed. ( I might be wrong here, but I'm decently sure I ain't. ) While he didn't REALLY have a reason for making the V-9 serum in the first place, I think it was either out of boredom or overall desire for more power.

Despero on his planet was on a planet and there was a tyrant or something so he had to inhabit earth but it’s later revealed that he was the tyrant and killed a lot of people on his planet so I think he gets more in evilness. Also I thought of reverse flash kind of being the main villain for the storyline because he planned basically everything out or he would at least

I saw my cousin watch the flash cw and asked if i could watch it with him,he said sure he opened season 4 and told me this was the best season in his opinion,when i got home i started the show from the beginning and was so fascinated with the cgi,when i went on youtube the next day,i searched up ranking of all the flash seasons and found you,and ever since that day im in love with your vids

Great review! As much as I don't like Savitar, you definitely made me appreciate the character more. Your spot on about Mirror Master as well.
For villains id love to see on the Flash in the future, I'd love to see Zoom again. The earth 1 version we saw during season 2×14. (Considering Earth 2 Hunter Zolomon is officially Black Flash, and since Crisis occurred, Hunter would be the prime version). Reason it would be awesome for the Flash writers reintroduce Hunter Zolomon is they could go the comic book route. With him being a police officer and happily married (Just like Barry). I think it would be compelling to see Team Flash deal with another version of Hunter Zolomon who they wouldn't trust (especially Caitlin or Barry). Have Barry and Hunter work together on cases, Barry trying his best to save him from going down a dark path, before inevitably Hunter becomes Zoom once again.
Bloodwork is looking like he's gonna have a continuation, when he gave Eva his blood he said it was for "future considerations", so I think the whole Eva plot was a part of preparing the final bloodwork story.
I found the forces' story very understandable - the forces weren't created out of love, but out of the speed that remained inside of Iris, she had 100% speed, because she couldn't use it.
But I did hate the fact they made the Speed Force the villain. I think the Speed Force should have filled the Time Masters' role, protecting the timeline (without the supporting-vandal-savage part, tho)
The thing that was really weird was the Deathstorm arc, they could have just skipped it, switch it (and the Armageddon arc) with a longer Reverse-Flash arc.

to sum up, the entire thing of two arcs per season was very annoying.
They could have done a lot more with the Allegra-Aranas arc, but they just didn't, I want to see Allegra powering up to her full, I know she can do better.
The OP cecile arc was really great, tho, it felt like a flashblack (pun unintended) to when she was introduced.
The mecha-vibe thing was unnecessary too imo, they should have kept more space for the main arc and let cisco keep the powers he gained from the Monitor during Crisis.
and the most annoying thing was that Crisis was a crossover, considering it was mentioned in the First episode.

Hot take: Reverse flash (in terms of the show) is 1.5 for me, because his motivation is simply ridiculous.
A. Why would he want to become the Flash.
B. What purpose would it serve to kill The Flash's mom.
C. What would've driven him to specifically wanting kill Barry's mom?
D. Why does he want to be the only Flash/the first.
E. wouldn't he have figured out Barry's name without intricately searching for it? Surely by then dental records or record of some kind passed Barry's eventually death would reveal who he was.
In the comic his drive wasn't to become the Flash it was merely wanting to help the Flash, becoming Barry's sidekick in the future. Though it turns out all their adventures were engineered by Eobard so him and Barry could have fun. Obviously that involved multiple crimes so Barry dipped back to his own time.
This left Eobard with strife and aguish that eventually turned him into the reverse flash.
(obviously the backstory isn't exact as there have been multiple reboots of his backstory but this is one and one that makes more sense then what CW gave us)

The reason Zoom wants to be faster is to be like he said, the fastest ever. He is a serial killer and wants to be able to kill anyone. He can’t stand that the flash is almost as fast. He wants to be completely unstoppable so he can kill completely without competition.
That’s what makes him so evil in my eyes.
He actually kills who ever he wants. He does not have anything personal against the flash in the same way as he reverse flash or savitar.
I think the meaning/story of what he wants and why is very very good if you see it this way.
Another comment wrote a similar thing about him being so ego and murderous that he just wants to be faster but I think I gets deeper if you think about that he just wants to be like a god basically and kill anyone he wants just because he’s wicked and can’t be saved or turned. Truly a psycopath.
He only showed mercy when caitlyn asked him to not kill the flash because he could still feel some romantical love and listened to her. But that’s puuuurely egotistical. He has no good in him at all

12: Gorilla Grodd (Eventually redeemed, but only for his own gain. His plans are super evil)
11: Savitar (A corrupted version of Barry who is decently evil, but also has some humanity)
10: Red Death (No motive, but she’s just plain, pure evil that throws tantrums)
9: Negative Forces (Haven’t had enough time to fully develop, but from what we saw, they are pretty malicious)
8: Godspeed (A giant evil speedster with no given motivation. Killed XS’s friend)
7: Deathstorm (A straight up terrifying fire monster who’s made up of pure grief and evil)
6: The Thinker (No point in his deeds, he just kills his own bus metas due to lust for power)
5: Grace Gibbons (Has no reason for being evil, he just killed her Uncle with no remorse)

I've checked a ton of comments, and have not seen a single one talking about how a better name for cicada might be rattlesnake. it simply makes more sense for the coldblooded looking guy with the rattling sound and sharp weapon that disables its target after a rattlesnake. it has similar characteristics and isn't something dumb like a bug

Zoom's drive is that his mother was murdred infront of him by his father and then he went on to be a killer.
Zoom was scary af. And actually gave me chills thru my spine. But the sound that reverse flash makes everty time he is no screen, with those red eyes and that sound it makes chill go thru my spine.
Zoom was dying. He wanted flash's speed to ensure his own survival. While he did say that he wanted to go faster, later it was also revealed that zoom was dying. For those wondering, the V9 he was taking constantly, which made his lightning blue, was the cause of his cells deteriorating, as we saw with Trajectory.

I do wanna say, The Reverse Flash originally went back in time, to kill Barry Allen his younger self but he couldn't get to him cuz the his older self, saved his younger self so that's why he turned around and killed his mother instead.
