Today's "shredders" owe a shit load of thanks to the late, great Alvin Lee. Playing that fast at that age? Obviously no arthritis in his fingers.

  • @rowlandcleaver3570

Lucky to catch him live - a relatively intimate gig at Brunel Uni. A great slot in Night of Guitars. Shredding has been mentioned, but I agree with other comments that his melodic quality eclipsed just speed - similar to Guthrie Govan today. Young gun shredders are a dime a dozen on TH-cam, but you can forget artistry. RIP a true Artist. ♥️✌

“Tax the rich, feed the poor, til there are rich no more”. & from Zoom CD “What’s that stuff your dumping at the bottom of the sea?” With too many other examples to list here. RIP Alvin, thanks for all you’ve given to us…!

the problem with that "tax the rich...til there are rich no more..." where the fuck will the money to feed to "poor" come from? The middle class? Those lyrics still bother me. Most of America's "poor" are richer than many other country citizens.

Needless to say, I am a huge fan of Ten Years After, and of course, Alvin Lee. TYA receives very little play on classic rock radio stations. All the repeat is I'd Love To Change The World, which a timeless tune played as intros to many situations and talk radio stations like Coast To Coast. BTW, if you read about that tune, Alvin actually wasn't pleased doing it at all. It was really their only "hit". The There ar not too many fans of TYA. They are not mentioned in the same breath with old classic rock bands. Nor are they in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. WHAAAAATTTT ? Just for their rendition of I'm Going Home , at Woodstock, in 1969, TYA should have been inducted!! Alvin does appear on some of the greatest guitarist lists like Rolling Stone Magazine. In the top 10 for sure. Probably should be in the top 5 !!!! Man, he could play that Legendary Gibson guitar. He was not a great showman on stage, reserved character, but a fantastic guitarist. Number one in my book, Eric Clapton and Page in there too..... RIP Alvin .

@@faggotsmoker9588 Sure, Malmsteen definitely has the technical prowess (and I have the upmost respect for him) over Alvin and can shred unbelievable all day long, but once you heard 5 minutes of Malmsteen, you have pretty much heard it all. Alvin is all about feel and stepping outside the box of old school. If it weren`t for guys like Alvin there wouldn`t be guys like Malmsteen.

Just like Rory Gallagher, Johnny Winter and Ronnie Montrose. Amp, Cord and Guitar. Plug it in and let it rip! Of coarse with a solid band to backing them!
