we were fortunate to have Randy to join us at our table at "Beginnings" in Schaumburg Il. in 1979. ..had a nice talk..Terrie, Brian, Mo, Rich, Rick, Mike and myself.
This song, specially this cover, is a Holy tune, for me. Randy was a hero. More than that: he gave his life up, saving his son from the sea. The boy was drowning. Randy went after him, into the water. Just in time to save his son, and loose his life. Now he rests in peace in deep waters. And in heaven, with the only God, Creator of the Universe. Or Multiverses.
The singer, Randy California, was in a band with Jimi Hendrix called Jimmy James and the Blue Flames. There was another Randy in the band, he was from Texas, so they called him Randy Texas. Keith Richards saw them playing in a club in NYC and called his friend Chas Chandler, bassist for the Animals to come and see Jimi play. Chas brought Jimi to England and the rest is history. Jimi wanted to bring Randy to England with him, but Randy's parents wouldn't have it. Randy was 16.
Newcastle City Hall, late 1988, aged 18, the night before my gf, now wife and I saw Jimmy Page there, we saw this. Afterwards we chatted with Randy California, Steve Howe and Robbie Krieger in the bar as Alvin Lee and Leslie West stood nearby. Far out!!
My mom had this song on her Ipod, but it said that ten years after made this song. Therefore i've spent about 3 years trying to find this. I'm soo happy now that I've finnaly found it :)
Krieger: copies California's first solo, delays his copy and sustains the lead notes all in realtime - holy poop! I always thought California had some kind of sophisticated delay effect on that held certain notes but no...
@@davidf6326 lol You could say that about any other guitarrists in this show that abuse of pentathonics, not Steve Howe. Listen to All along the watchtower
Can't believe this doesn't have more views... Fantastic cover. Bought the CD and can't get enough of this song as well as the Hey Joe cover. Even though Jimi's is still the greatest, this is a great cover and I'm sure Jimi would have approved.
Triste el papel de howe haciendo un sólo magistral de rock progresivo ante un grupo de neandertales que tratan de emular a un incomparable triste de verdad
Randy California.!! Awesome talent.!! RIP Randy. Made the ultimate sacrifice saving his son from a riptide. Play on in Heaven
Thank you Bob....for writing such an awesome song in the first place
Indeed, he must be thanked !
My god! What guitar talent on one stage! Great sound effects with the guitars! This is one of the best group efforts I have heard on this song!
I went to this concert. First time I had seen Robby Krieger and first and last time I got to see Randy.
i was there in Hamburg 1987.... thats so close....best conzert in my life
Huge Zeppelin fan, but let's give Randy California his due credit. RIP, Randy.
Some fuckin' talent on that stage, right there!! Great version of a great song! RIP Randy... \m/
Brilliant, first time I’ve seen this. Andy Powell was a highlight for me , and the guy from Yes, Howe
Amazing how many players were on the stage, and they all shined without sounding like a muddled mess. Great vid.
^^^@LightningDogg .. "Jimi was the first Cat to ensemble 12-24 or so guitarists on stage for a Jam session from Hell" :D] .v (Nmcfmamf) ..
I agree. Who's the guy with the Flying V?
@@fernandes5986 Andy Powell from Wishbone Ash
@@LightningDogg Thank you. He's great.

Great tribute to the amazing JIMMY HENDRICKS. REST IN PEACE JIM!
At least learn how to spell "jimi Hendrix or James Marshall Hendrix"
@@ralphmejia3842 I think he was trolling, bud. You bit. It's all good. The Thank, Jim was the key. Folks misspell Jimi but no one ever called hi. Jim.
My favourite version of this song, amazing :). Thanks for the upload

Steve Howe's technique is impeccable.
Awesome brilliant guitar music!
Great! Randy California 🎸⭐❤r.i.p.
Ahh in stereo - thank you - great upload!
Can't imagine what it would have been like to be there for this
Great tribute to Jimi Hendrix's rendition of Bob Dylan's monumental, almost biblical lyrics. RIP Randy and Jimi.
Puts the fun back in covering, don't it? They just put the egos aside and dig right in.
amazing, how so good to listen this one
SUPER KLASEE !!!
Howe does Steve play so good
Great stuff
Nobody seems to notice Peter Haycock, what a shame ! :-) Climax Forever!
True that. Haycock was awesome. Unfortunately, he's not among us anymore, like Randy.😢

Jimi’s version was also a cover of Dylan...
Neil Young's cover of this was pretty awesome at 30 year celebration of Bob Dylan too.

The singer looks and acts like Will Ferrell playing a parody character.
Those guys can play unlike some of the current pap. I was at that concert and it was fantastic.
I bet you don't even know who he is and his history.
Randy California was cool. Will Ferrell sucks.
😅
HO LEE FUK.
too up tempo to have the flavor of the original recipe
Fkn SHIT
nowhere near it !
seems that hendrixs licks are permanently attached to dylans all along the wachtower. these guys cant come up with anything original.
