Wow, I am VERY surprised by your thoughts on this piece. I'm not the biggest Surfer or Doom fan, but it looks fine to me. I'd wish the keys/pegs were longer to make sure the thing will stay upright for a longer time. I like the black shadows in the cloth (we all have our preferences... this seems similar to how I hate blue highlights in black hair or cloth), but I agree the pattern should have been carried into the cape. The circles on the elbows and knees are just a weird goofy design Doom has always had in the comics. I liked the half mask... it's like the Spider-man effect from the comics. So yeah, even though this isn't anything I'd ever get, overall it looks good to me.
I like how honest your reviews are. Even though you don't love everything you get it doesn't affect your love of collecting.

Agree with you on the base and that half-masked portrait but overall i still really like this piece. Love Doom's pose and the flow of the cape.

I like the concept showing Doom victorious over silver surfer but I agree his hand in the air they could have done something different
I was so excited when I read the title for this. 2 of my all time favorites. Then i saw it and was not what I had pictured in my mind.
As a surfer fan as well, I feel you. Few things I noticed / agreed with
1. I prefer Chrome on the surfer if possible
2. I prefer figures "battling" even if one is winning, rather than one which has won
3. The base is massively lackluster. Space themed, or some columns, or broken ships, wouldve helped
4. No cosmic energy on either of the figures
5. I know nothing about doom, but I'd expect an infinity gauntlet swap out
Not judgemental at all. 2 amazing characters they could have done so much to tweak it. The ground could have been more of a meteorite looking rock, Dooms face should have been better painted, his hand raised could have been holding something that stripped away the surfers power etc. However, all that being said it was a great piece to review because of it's flaws and the bowling skit was spot on.
Just got this piece in hand despite watching the review, was a little apprehensive at first.
Honestly the statue is alot better than the general sentiment from this review.
I've had statue from CO before and thought they were average, mind is a little changed now I think they did better on the Doom on Surfer.
Those sitting on the fence can consider this if you come across it at a decent price.

The half mask is an odd look, but the statue overall is a nice piece.
The doom staute looks amazing I love it.
That's the pose I do every time I finish work, I also do this pose after my first pint of cider
I agree with you on the cape and the base, but all in all the concept is unique and gets a lot of compliments when displayed.

The silver from both Doom & the Surfer reflect really nice on this side of the camera, a white light spot light on that statue and it would shine & shimmer and stand out. It looks like a fine statue Mr. X but I'm a dumbass when it comes to big time statues.

Random comment for statue entry 91...Doom's pose looks awkward rather than celebratory, a base of a castle over the
frozen burger patty couldn't hurt, Surfer needs to try standing up with his board over the stiff sunbathing pose and
there needs to be more color like Kirby krackle from Doom's hands. There goes my job at CO Signature Collectibles.

I think you're right on the money with this statue. The base need more color or detail to help breal up the silver on metal. and there's to many things like the cape not being textured or scale issues that make it miss the mark.
Well Silver Surfer is definitely over scaled for a 1/4 piece. Yet he is not human and we don't know what size someone from his world would really be. The concept is fantastic, how Doom could possibly take on one of Marvel's universe strongest characters. With that pose Doom is definitely celebrating his victory over the Silver Surfer, while still feeling his power of Cosmic surging in his body. I don't like the half masked portrait and the painting is not very impressive. Otherwise it's not that bad but I definitely think it is a 3 out of 5 for sure.

Doom's pose seems to be missing the infinity gauntlet (don't know if the comics had him in a pose like that but it just looks like he is supposed to have the gauntlet in this)
Great review. I agree with your assessment of this piece. These are two of my favorite characters, so I really wanted it to be a home run and a grail piece. But I don’t believe it is. At least not for me. I like it, but I don’t love it, so I had to pass on it.

I respect your opinion, but I think this looks pretty good. The power pose doesn't bother me and it's cool seeing two great characters. Definitely some flaws that could have been done better though.
I can agree that this statue is missing the mark in a few areas. I received mine a few months back and was disappointed with the second (half-mask) portrait and the over-done shading on Doom’s tunic and cape. I think his metal is done very well. His “bowling’ pose is odd, but not the worst I’ve ever seen. The base is………nothing discernible. Is it a planet base? Is it a chunk of concrete? Could have been better. Thanks for your review.
Cool comic concept with Surfer and Doom. C.O. may have rushed or capped it within a big one price range $1K or less.

He really does look like his bowling for a strike🎳 but I definitely think this is a little bit of an underrated character
I don't think it quite holds up to some of the higher end companies in the sculpt and paint in some areas but it still looks pretty good. And as a comic guy I think I have seen this pose/scene somewhere before, as you said though it could be from an art print or variant cover. Be Excellent.

Pretty cool piece. Sucker for the quarter scale pieces. Not a fan of the face. That said, if someone comes to the house, they are definitely looking at this one.

Definitely agree on the base. Not loving it compared to the rest of the piece. Not my favorite piece and it could have been a bit better but I can still see the appeal people might of had in grabbing the piece.

I agree with you....can't imagine Dr. Doom defeating Surfer, base looks as boring as can be, half of the board sticking out of stone?........a BIG skip.
The two things that bother me about the statue are the cape and the TwoFace head sculpt. I understand where you’re coming from about not wanting to see your favorite character beat down. I’m not the biggest fan of Prime 1 Studio’s diorama of Bane over an almost unconscious Batman in the mud.
I love the size and concept, but overall it looks good. I'll give it an A for the Silver Surfer.

I appreciate your honesty. Poses are important and I didn't like it just because of that. It doesn't look so bad from a distance, but up close...well, I'd be disappointed too. The cape is bland and the half mask portrait is bothersome. It was a good attempt though.
I like the concept of Dr Doom, but Fantastic 4 was the Marvel team I read the least so I have some catching up to do.
It's definitely a shame this statue had a lot of potential to look great if they would have just taken more time with the areas like you talked about in the video. The time they wasted on that second portrait I don't know what they were thinking the only thing they could have done there was given him a mask that was shattered not a half-mask somebody dropped the ball meant to say it when I first wrote this but if they would have just had Doom standing on Surfer with his arms crossed that would have been such a better pose and to me a correct Doom type of look that he's defeated his enemy

Just based on video, I feel you are being fairly harsh lol. Its all opinions of course though. Like just based on pics and vids; it lools pretty badass. The pose looks pretty standard to me, comparable to XM Hulk or a ton of pieces like it etc. Sculpts and paint look solid

The half-mask fells like a after thought, there's no emotion to match the pose. He just defeated the Silver Surfer and he looks annoyed by it.

I have this, has its weaknesses for sure overall it's mostly good for me, a rather bland base tho. The Doom pose is based off comics, they just tweaked it from comci to statue to add Surfer under his foot. In th comic pose his raised hand would be holding a energy orb or whatever it is lol. The split portrait is also based off a specific comic cover which is his face is 50/50 masked and clean. I always thought SS seemed rather large tho, i didnt have anything to compare him to tho. Think they just tried to pull from to many sources for inspiration. Overall tho I thought it was good value for 2 qtr's in one, popular characters, and a decent ES
Statue sucks balls. Doom's pose couldn't be more generic, his body shape is a bit offputting, surfer looks dull, the board is unbelievably far in the ground, the base sucks, etc. You hit the nail on the head with this review.
Looks good but Surfer does look a little oversized compared to DR Doom.
Couldl have been a gamechanger. You miss 100% of shots you don't take so its good that they tried

I think you're out to lunch with the review on this, it's a great statue. I'm not a fan of the alternate portrait but it is based on the cover of one of the dr doom books from the last 5 years or so.
Nah, 5 or 10 years ago it would have been fine, but not today, other companies are doing amazing things with statues & this is terrible in comparison.

I don’t think so and I agree with you . The pose doesn’t suit Dr Doom. A better pose would be if Doom was holding SS up by the throat or if doom had his arms crossed would look good also.
The base is boring. It’d look better if the base was from Doom Castle. I was excited for this statue but with the dumb bowling pose and the boring base, I’m not a fan of it anymore.
I came so close to pulling the trigger on this, I bought there Spiderman bust & wolverine bust, with very good pieces with low editions sizes so the value is there, but there wolverine bust is amazing, find that one if you can. got magneto bust on order as well. sorry I digress but this piece is a let down with 2 A list characters o it, I expect a lot more from CO

The base is really boring and the paint is kinda weird but other than that it is a pretty dope piece dude!
I have this statue and love it. Doom going after Silver Surfer goes back to the Kirby days and was also in the FF2 movie. Silver Surfer is a spacefarer and Doom would go to him, so the "meteor/asteroid" base setting is suitable, and the small size is good for display room(focus is on the two anyway). The triumphant pose works for me especially with Doom's ego... while nobody would normally do that, Doom would just as he talks about himself in third person. The large "rivets" are more synonymous of the original armour which works for me... I prefer the simpler look at per Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 which is one of his best depictions and would love a butter gun to match that which is a miss, but the embellished modern look is okay. The head switchout is a bit of a miss as it's for secret identities... two sides is more of a comic thing like with Spider-Man/PP so it doesn't fit. You're right about the scarring, and a different mask would be better as there's a few great looking versions. The masked one is decent. The board could have been bigger. I also don't think there's a modern comic basis for the art/pose. Overall it's more dynamic than some of the other stance statues and is similar to Wolverine vs Hulk for me. Really one of my favourite statues!
Late edit: I was just thinking about Doom's disfigured face and there's a few variations on it. Victor Von Doom comes from a gypsy family and his mother is in hell for being a witch; Doom keeps trying to save her. In college he met Reed and one of the devices he built to try to rescue his mom backfired and damaged his face. He blamed Reed for sabotaging his machine. He wears a mask partially to hide the disfigurement. In one later Kirby sketch (not in the comics) the damage was only a small scar (on the right side)... which is supposed to be a reflection on Doom's ego and his self-perceived perfection. John Byrne later did a version where Doom further damages his own face by putting the hot mask on his face. There's another panel where Doom has the scarring on the left side(although this could be Kristoff; been too long since I've read). Depending which version you go with, you could make the argument that the half mask still covers the scar on his face... noting that he becomes Dr Doom, then fights Silver Surfer, then later on is Secret Wars where he heals his face plus John Byrne's version.
Late edit 2: Trying to sleep but also realised that the Power Cosmic can heal, Doom could have fixed his face immediately
