    Oh, the irony of TH-cam putting two 15 sec ads in the middle of a video about people's inability to focus in the 21st century.

    The irony that we are skimming through the actual book by watching this video. But I guess, most of us need the information first in order to read the book.

    I use to treat sleep as a reward for working hard. Then I burnt out. Now I’ve realized that sacrificing sleep is counterproductive to achieving my goals.
    Sleeping 8-9 hours is now a built-in pillar to my productivity.

    Book First is a cool concept. I read my notes and affirmations first before diving into other things.
    Also I observed recently that I tend to skim so much info and watch knowledge youtube videos at 1.5 X Speed with still scrolling through other videos.
    This video appears to be a wake up call and thank you for creating this.

    I have paper books stashed everywhere. As soon as I get a moment; I read. I have an old flip phone that makes me more situational aware and present (mainly for physical security reasons since I carry a loaded firearm at all times due to work.) Smart phones are the source of most of the loss of focus and they spy on you.

    Excellent recommendation, especially the realization to fight for focus. And, if one hour in the morning is good, wouldn't two hours or more be better?

    • @Zutarilvl59
      @Zutarilvl59 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it's a compromise between setting priorities and being productive. I guess you could say, Why not 6 hours in the morning (although it is likely evening by then), but then you spent too much time planning to make yourself productive that you skip the productivity.

    Loved this idea but it's aimed at a certain demographic. Just impossible to get up and have this much sole attention when you're incharge of 3 small humans. The thought of getting up and having my own time to do something like this sounds like a dream in itself.

    On the book reading, I take issue. People dont read as much as they used to? Dude, I spend a buttload of my day reading emails, tech docs, code and bullcrap like tweets or reddit posts. I dont want to read any more when I clock out. I also read to my kid every night for about 12-20 minutes.
    I have considered getting up in the morning to take a walk then read before the family is up, for leisure/growth but I really dont see reading as all that rewarding any more.

      I would highly recommend this book. According to me this summary, unfortunately, fails to mention some very important ideas that Johann has emphasized in this book. He mentions that this is a Systemic Problem and Individual-level solutions will not suffice. He talks about this idea called "Cruel Optimism", it is when you take a really big problem with deep causes in our culture-like obesity, depression, or addiction and you offer people, in upbeat language, a simplistic individual solution. I definitely don't think Johann comes across the "Idea Gurus" that you talk about. In a way, I think he makes his readers aware of such people through the discussion of Cruel Optimism
