After touring with my Dad in 1985 this guitar was left to rot... Decades later a certain signature catches my attention; This guitar IS a knockoff, but it's also as authentic as they come. Let me explain and dig it.

Don’t let me interrupt, but for the record; The luthier’s name is pronounced “Kub-icki” not “Kub-ecki”. silly me!

Dude I wanna hear you play with your dad. Does he play solos? Loving the new longer format content. Not the Tiktok style stuff. Keep it coming.

This is such an amazing piece of guitar history, and the fact that it has some personal value to you makes it even better. Great video, dude

Cool. I spoke with Phil back in the late 70’s. If I remember correctly, he was making replacement guitar necks for Wayne Charvel to sell as an item for their parts catalog.
In order to keep up with my own parts orders, I was looking to mix his necks (private labeled) with my own. I never pursued anything because I never felt comfortable with private labeling someone else’s bodies or necks. I do remember though that he did make high quality necks and didn’t learn much about his pedigree until recently.

There was a handful of parts companies back in the mid 70’s early 80’s and my company was one of them. We were selling wholesale to luthiers, guitar store repair techs and enthusiasts who in turn made guitars with them. Some custom ordered. The headstock would come unbranded and the buyer could put any name on it at all. It’s unlikely that Phil sold a complete guitar without his name on it. It’s more likely that the guitar you have was put together by the guitar store tech using Kubecki body and neck plus spare parts that were lying around or ordered by the shop for this project. In any case, it’s definitely a valuable and well made guitar by a well respected craftsman.
    Congratulations

As someone whose a fellow guitarist and from New Jersey, it’s so awesome to see your pops show his love for our state. Bruce Springsteen is the Boss of Nj 💯. However we have such a special and unique music scene. Personally I’m part of the punk and hardcore scene and play a lot of shows within it, but beyond that I still have that sense of home here in NJ. The Stone Pony is my home and NJ will always have one of the best and most unique music scenes ever.
