    I used to live in America (until I was 13) and I learned that every person who has an “American accent” can still sound different. Also not everyone in America had an “American accent”. If you are worried about people in America judging you for your accent, then don’t be. Americans are very used to hearing all different kind of accents and nobody will really care.

      well the thing is, this is the purest form. I'm Turkish and our mother language is "Latin Turkish", no accents, straight intonation so we have the same thing but nobody asks what is Latin Turkish. Outside of the US, people learn American English in this form, we don't try to speak like Texas, Boston or NY people. This is a pure accent of nowhere from US. I'd like to speak in a Texas accent btw, I love how that sounds.

    As a native English speaker (who has also studied foreign languages), I find this fascinating. Native speakers learn the intonation by hearing it over and over without ever studying it, but I love this stuff. It also reinforces how damn hard English is!

      I also think English is one of the simplest languages in the world. I speak 6 different languages and English is not my native language. But out of all languages I find this the easiest one: no conjugations, simple structures. Unfortunately also also not as rich and deep as other old languages. I think this one of the reasons it is one the most spread languages in the world.

    Thank you, this is an excellent spoken English teaching video. Although English is not as hard as other languages to learn, however, spoken English is a challenge, especially American Accent. I remembered when I just arrived, my sponsor wanted me to pronounce every sound, even though I could not hear the ending sound like the 'T' and 'D'. Accent is hard to manage. I spoke several languages. Only my Cantonese is almost near perfect. But when I traveled to Hong Kong, the people knew I was not a native. 😃 I appreciate the technique you taught.

    Really appreciate your hard work, thanks.
    11:20 "and the sink" a little bit sounds like "in the sink" to me
    confusing "and" with "in" is a common mistake?

    • @mrmememe777
      @mrmememe777  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The letter D is silent in "AND" and the letter A is pronounced as E (as in eggs, pen, bed).

    Hey, I just wanted to say I love your videos! I’m a student at an international school in the UAE(which, as you might know, is one of the only majority English-speaking countries in Asia), and English is my first language, but I spent my critical acquisition period around Indian English-speakers. The thing is, because my school is an international school, about a third of the students speak with an American or pseudo-American accent, and so in the past two years since I joined the school I’ve learned to speak with an American accent. Your videos help me correct the little quirks that make the difference between a native speaker and a non-native speaker. Anyways, I have a few questions. Are intervocalic l’s velarized? I think I read somewhere that they’re velarized at the end of syllables, but what about between vowels? Secondly, are t’s at the end of the last word in a sentence glottalized like in the word “want,” which you talked about, or no? Third, is the a in “Mr and Mrs” pronounced as a schwa or as the a in “cat” but shorter? My last question is: is “oo” pronounced as a close back rounded vowel or close central rounded vowel in American English?

    Thank you so much. You are very pleasant to listen to. I was born in NYC but I live in the Midwest, where the pronunciation is a bit different. I feel like I'm back East with this lesson. It was amazing.
