Andrew always brings the deeper insight and meaning. I look forward to him guiding the conversation. We see you, Andrew!
Katt Williams just bought a plantation also I'm not sure where. People are doing it but we don't know about it. Spread the joy!!
Andrew
Reverend Barber
Wes Moore
Angela
Stacy Abrams
Wow so many more.
My Top Five:
Rev. William Barber (Religious Leader)
Robert Smith (Business Leader)
Stacy Abrams (Civic Leader)
Ibram X. Kendi (Academic Leader)
Jasmine Crockett (Political Leader)
Great list!
Absolutely GREAT LIST, POWERFUL 👊🏾
No Rev 4 me. I don't trust church ' leaders '... feel they're easily bought...
The CODE is the leader. What is wrong with you?
Good with these choices!
We are all leaders! We just need to activate collectively and validate our own power.
Yep.... Because that's how it works. Smh
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The code is the leader. Which makes us leaders at any given time.
My Top 5
1. Marc Lamonte Hill
2. Jasmine Crocket
3. Trevor Noah
4. Ketanji Brown Jackson
5. Shonda Rhimes (My Wild card)
Jasmine.AOC. Max frost. Cory bush. Jamal Bozman. Latisha Brown.
Homosexuality and immigrants and white liberals ass kiss
*Top Five: Eddie Glaude, Jr as my academic, Andrew Gillum as my political connect, Latoshca Brown for my social movement leader, Jasmine Crockett for communications and probably Rev William Barber for spiritual guidance/leadership…and honorable mention to Joteka Eddy and Roland!*
My top 5 black representatives, but open to others…
1. Wes Moore
2. Letitia James
3. Michelle Obama
4. Jasmine Crockett
5. Raphael Warnock
I don't think we need leaders as much as we need organization. I would begin with a quarterly meeting/event organized by the cutting edge media. Native Land Pod, Roland Martin, Don Lemon, Stacy Abrams, etc. Just millions of us online focusing on a few specific, let's crucial ways to implement changes. To the Whitehouse I am sending Dr. Claude Anderson (experience), Roland Martin (firepower), Andrew Gillum (negotiations), Stacy Abrams (practical implementation), Bishop William Barber (outreach/compassion) or Elie Mystal Constitutional Law.
I receive so much comfort from listening to you all with your brilliant minds.
I lived through the turbulent 60s growing up in Berkeley CA. I warned people every day you don't want to that experience.
Those times were so brutal for women because they had no options. I left a violent marriage move to a different city and got a job and raised my babies. My Mom was not so lucky, racism and patriarchy murdered her at 33 years old.
Many thought I was overreacting when I warned them don't vote for agent orange.
I'm so sorry you went through those terrible times. Definitely so sorry about your MOM as well. Sadly it seems some folks refuse to believe anything. We've definitely Gotta SELECT BETTER JUDGES
I chose these five because they each bring something powerful to the table-Angela Rye and Andrew Gillum with their political experience, Roland Martin with his media influence and ability to hold people accountable, Charlamagne Tha God with his reach in entertainment and culture, and Dr. Umar Johnson with his passion, activism, and deep connection to the Black community. We have the resources, the influence, and the knowledge-we just need to pool them together and take action. These voices, in the same room, could start something real.
😂 U obviously joking.
*You had me until you said Charlamagne😢*
My Top 5 is Rev. William Barber, Michelle Obama, Hakeem Jeffries, Katanji Brown Jackson & Jasmine Crockett!!
💯 Agree
All Stars!
Katanji doesn’t know what a woman is so how can she lead us?
@Kwabenata.Etu0hene yeah, she is a SCOTUS, she is off limits.
The CODE is the leader.
This needs to be a full pod
Dr. Claude Anderson. He understands economics, that's where leadership is. No money or resources no power.
These are urgent times. We must organize strategically with with strong courageous leaders in every State, City and town. I'm in my winter years and will do what I can. But now is the time for our young leaders to lead!
Stay strong ! Stay united!❤
I believe that Michael Eric Dyson is constantly being overlooked during such a conversation on the internet. He's one of the rare individuals who knows how to bring zest to an issue while stating the facts regarding the world of politics in the country.
You must have bumped your head!
@I.P.Freely2-yz1je, it's obvious you don't invest in doing the homework or research about influential African-Americans in the country.
@@anthonygriffin1958 all I know is that he talks black, but he was trying to holla at that whyte woman on the sly. 🤣🤣🤣
@@I.P.Freely2-yz1je I believe that's called a "personal opinion" until the facts are presented regarding such a matter in the process.
@@anthonygriffin1958 the whyte woman but him on blast. She kept the text messages. Dude just shut up.
I feel like we are so far removed from the essence and foundation of the civil rights movement that we collectively lack the discipline and tenacity to commit to a successful boycott. I fear we have become too complacent because we weren't in the trenches making the sacrifices. With that being said I still have faith in US. My top 5 would be as follows:
Roland Martin, Stacey Abrams, Andrew Gilliam, LaTosha Brown, Bishop Talbert Swann
I agree. Our community is so comfortable with the status quo that they don't understand the impact a boycott can have. There has to be solidarity. Too many of us want to pick and choose what we want to give up.SMH
This is a breath of fresh air!
I agree with building a concentrated political powerbase, love Charles Blow's book on it
The code is the leadership
Facts, this comment may go over many black folk’s head!
Exactly. Well said.
I believe, without naming any individuals, that the blueprint isn't necessarily what Black People would want for ourselves but who our adversary sees as a threat. Based on the COINTELPRO memo, the characteristics of an actual threat were (1) "charisma", (2) the ability to "unify" various Black groups with different ideas on resistance, and (3) the ability to cultivate "long-range growth" among the youth.
GREAT points!
We just need to unitify
Andrew Gillum, point blank! - and his wonder twin, Angela Rye. Dr. William Barber, Dr. Eddie Glaude, and Rep. Jasmine Crockett round out my list.
Just kooking st the suggestions, I realize ALL the capable people our Black Community have at our advantage.
My top 5 and reasoning...
Michelle Obama, because she hates the government.
Andrew Gilliam, Because he loves the process of the government
Rev. Barber, cause he LOVES the people... Like "ALL" people
Elie Mystal, because he can translate the big government language to where I can understand
Jasmine Crockett, because she is all of these reasonings of why!
Seconded. These are outsatnding choices!
Love your list and glad president Obama wasn’t on it.
I hope you're a woman, because only a neutered man would come up with this list.
Those are excellent choices I don't have a problem with any of these persons
every one you listed is a centrist and a capitalist. not a radical in the bunch. 😂
Sis Angela, you know who would definitely be on my academia leader list? Eddie Glaude, Jr.
We have a massive amount of Black leaders in our community. Our enemies are confused when they can’t identify ONE. It’s better when they don’t and we know why.
Absolutely amazing and thought provoking conversation! And I'm reminded of "The Warmth of Other Suns" as you spoke of the migrations. We are being called to move collectively at this juncture, so yes. we should be thinking strategically about buying land and creating communities.
Hearing “give me one black” is bonkers.
Okay here is my list.
1. Michelle Obama
2. Roland Martin
3. Jasmine Crockett
4. Tamika Malory
5. Amanda Seales
I have Roland on my list as well. BUT, it is too many women on your list. Many in our group have a problem with too many women at the table. Those that sat this election out, or did not vote for KH, unfortunately.
The CODE is the leader
Leadership aint gonna be just 1 or 5. We need a community❤ ##welcomehome
The problem for me is there is no one person who really resonates with a large enough group of us. Me being selfish I would say Michelle Obama but I did not think she would ever embrace the role. Another issue is some of the older people in the spotlight need to bring younger folks under 50 into the public spotlight. This is coming from someone who is 51 years of age. We also need to make sure y we are promoting people who can connect across demographics. I do not see that one charismatic leader out there but maybe I am just not aware of him or her. I love many of the names you called out and they are important parts of the movement but I feel we need a person or small group of people who can resonate across the community from the inner city, to rural areas, and across levels of educational attainment. This is such complex question which we need to be discussing across or community. Thanks for starting the conversation.
Agreed and very well put.
My preference is for someone whose politics are more aligned with Dr. King. So she's a "no" for me.
michelle obama is as much a part of capitalist empire as anyone. she was with barack while he mercilessly bombed the middle east and global south. 😂
I love Tamika Mallory. I think she has done a wonderful job as being a leader and I always look to hear from her when things are going on and she never lets me down!
@juaux01, I find it hard to believe regarding someone of your matter as a "Senior" who really hasn't been engaged regarding the world of politics in the country. It's something that's expected of Millennials who don't for the most part don't invest in doing the homework or research or vote during an election cycle in the country. President Barack Obama, California State Representative Maxine Waters aka "Auntie Maxine" Massachusetts State Representative Ayanna Pressley, Michigan State Representative Rashida Tlaib, Minnesota State Representative IIhan Omar, New York State Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Texas State Representative Jasmine Crockett are a few that I can post from the top of my head who have made some process of getting people of color recognized and getting legislation moved in the right direction with the possibility of that signed into law over the years. 📃 ✍️ ⚖️
1. Roland Martin
2. Rev Barber
3. Elie Mystal
4. Stacy Abrams
5. Hakeem Jeffries
My one call to represent black interest would definitely go to Roland Martin without a doubt at all
Great Discussion💜Welcome Home
Great conversation! I'm most inspired by the insights that rise up and out through your trio expression. Yawl, together, create a soulful, dynamic energy that folks can feel! Thank you!
I think this is very important conversation bc it is going to past that we will need some strong black leaders to speak on our behalf against many of things that DT is doing to & against the black community. We will need that help, voice & guidance 🙏🏽
1. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan ( I wish he was younger)
2. Barack Obama (because he been in the White House and can talk their language
3. Tamika Mallory (to keep the younger folks engaged)
4. Andrew Guillum ( because he's for the people ✊🏿)
5. Killer Mike ( to be a disruptor when needed)
Love your list!
I like this list but I would change 1. Nina Turner ❤
We need more local and organizational leaders. But if I had to pick a top five for a meeting in no particular order:
1. Angela Rye
2. Tamika Mallory
3. Jamal Bryant
4. Bryan Stevenson
5. Barack Obama & Michelle Obama
Also, the southern reverse migration is already happening but it needs to ramp up. We have to establish community control and this may be one of the ways to do it. We can’t live in fear. Everyone should checkout Charles Blow’s The Devil You Know- book. There’s a doc as well.
LaTosha Brown, Stacey Abrams, Rev. Barber, Sen Warnock, Jasmine Crockett
😂
Pres. Obama, Dr. Kimberly Crenshaw, Robert Smith, Rev. Barber, and Stacey Abrams are my starting five. They'd have a good mix between academia, faith, economics, and political saavy. (Alternates on the bench: Bryan Stevenson, Alicia Garza, VP Kamala Harris, and Roland Martin)
Great choices
why are all your choices so centrist and rooted in capitalist exploitation? lol
TANHESI for the intellectual
#NativeLandPod thank you for this #MiniPod. When I think, who will lead us, it is a hard decision. Thanks for your perspective on who would lead the Black Community.
I Luv his ? as well...
I think Black Folk shld come down here 2 Florida / Change the landscape Completely 😮😮
I LUV Florida.
Born Raised.
Bought property.
Building a home.
Florida the state deserves a Wonderful change n leadership 👏🏾 🤜🏾🤛🏾👍🏾
I love the conversation about pioneering and think its a worthwhile thought!
This person raises a very valid question.
Janai Nelson; Derrick Johnson; Marc Morial; Al Sharpton; David Steward.;Sherrilyn Ifill.
I totally agree Andrew. I have been saying that about Mississippi for many years.
I agree, there shouldn't be a single leader. There needs to be leaders with expertise in addressing specific issues, such as mental health, health disparities, economics, education, law and crime, etc. There should also be websites, social media pages, and community resource centers in black neighborhoods where people can go to educate themselves and utilize their resources. There should be polls/surveys to identify the needs of specific communities-and lastly, a black lobbying firm to negotiate on our behalf.
My starting 5
Jasmine Crockett - The Legal Eagle
Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr. - The Scholar
Oprah Winfrey - The Star/Influencer
Bishop William Barber - The Faith Leader
Vice President Kamala Harris - The Diplomat
First 2 off the Bench Angela Rye - Legal Eagle/Fire Starter & Neil deGrasse Tyson - Intellect/Influencer
Moved to North Carolina where Black Population is 20.2%. I’m trying to hold tight here but they making it tough to not move back to MD/DC
Looking into LaTosha Brown, Tiff! ☝🏾👍🏾🙏🏾🎯 She’s a real one.
Yes, we need her on the committee/at the table. We need a committee or a PAC. We need a go to person or group and it can’t just be the NAACP.
Here’s my 5 for “the cabinet”
1. Wes More (charismatic & previous leadership)
2. Letitia James (stoic & brave)
3. Jasmine Crockett (she does well on social, good at breaking down policy)
4. Rev Warnock (appeal to religious Black folks)
5. Cardi B (I know yall gonna drag me for this, but we need someone on the fringes to appeal to the LLHH/Sexxy Redd crowd, which is critical)
Rather than think about "leaders", think about a governance structure for our communities that is democratic, that would model how a democracy should function
I agree that DC Mississippi Georgia and Louisiana are great states
- Michelle Obama
- Nina Turner
- Nikole Hannah-Jones
- Cornel West
- Ta-Nehisi Coates / Elie Mystal
Tamika Mallory
I am so ready for a utopia. However, there shouldn't be one person but let's include Gov. Wes Moore, Congress woman Jasmine Crockett and Stacey Abrams and build from there, keeping in mind the actual viability of the land we would occupy.
I think moving forward we need to structure an organizational leadership. That is, organize locally by community, town, county and state. Of course we have both NAN, the Rainbow Coalition and the NAACP which are already organized. But as someone noted we have spokespersons around the nation who represent us well and speak for us.
Ta-nehasi Coates
Jasmine Crockett
Andrew Gilliam
Spike Lee/Angela Rye (they serve similar roles)
Brittany Packnett Cunningham
We are not a monolithic group therefore a team approach representing the top 3-5 issues from those most versed members of our community would be ideal. President Obama-statesman and knowledgeable about all things Presidential and global; Rep Jeffries- eloquent communication and command of the congressional system; Rep. Crockett - Fearless and in touch with the average citizen; Rep. Frost- a generational leader with a drive to represent the youth and potentially Stacy Abrams as she excels at getting things done.
There were always multiple leaders.
Bishop Barber of the Poor People's Campaign would have to be on that team.
in Seattle, the pro'lem we have had for the last 30 years was putting a Christian Church community leader in charge of our community, when we have many-many Christian denominations, Nation of Islam, black Jewish folk, non-practicing, spiritual folk, atheists, and African immigrants who do not conform to our traditional church-centered idealism.
By choosing a church leader, you are shaving off more than half of our potential base.
I submitted my vote on NAACP site
The Code is the leader. We must follow a Code of Conduct.
The topic 👍
Sharon Ifill, Constance Rice, Louis Farrakhan, AL Sharpton, Michelle Obama
Collaborative Cooperative Communal leadership
My top five are:
Angela Rye / Jasmine Crocket to keep it real and legal
Tiffany Cross to state the actual facts of impact
Andrew Gillum to talk the talk, walk the walk and make an impact
Joanne Reid to provide the media aspect and its impact on future generations. Not to mention education on how decision impact all not just some.
and Michelle Obama / Stacy Abrams to show them just how dumb they are and how intelligent we all are in addition to showing them how it gets done.
No ratchets like Jasmine please
Michelle Obama is my pick, here's why: 1. She has the Jasmine Crockett, A. Rye energy, 2. She has the diplomacy to speak in any room political or elsewhere, and 3. She has that Ma Dear energy to resonate with all black folks. Let her have a call to action meeting and you will see Kamala Harris numbers on that call.
Can y'all do a full pod episode on this please.
My top 5!
-Louis Farrakhan (Religious leader)
-Angela Davis (Civil rights and academic leader)
-Robert Smith (Finance/economic leader)
-Marc Lamont Hill (Global political leader)
-Jasmine Crockett (Domestic politics/communications)
Love y’all!
Top Five:
Elie Mystal
Rep. Jasmine Crockett
Roland Martin
AG Letitia James
Rev. William Barber
Angela and Tiffany stay kuttin up lol.. I agree with Andrew’s concept of having different leaders for different purposes. I like Angela’s list so far.. 1. Rev Freddie Haynes 2. Tamika Mallory 3. Hakeem Jeffries 4. Ketanji Brown Jackson 5. Bernice King and Jasmine Crockett ( honorable mention)would probably be my top
Bishop Barber, Michelle Obama, Katanji Brown Jackson, Dr. Eddie Glaude, and Lurie Daniel Favors.
I think it could mirror the 19 that were in the room Andrew talked about. Like Angela inspired, you need representative perspectives. And I am up to 10 perspectives so I guess I’ll have top five and the bench!!! LOL #appreciateyall
Charles Blow wrote a book about how reversing the great migration would accomplish a majority minority in the south that would significantly change the political landscape
I'd say Justin Pearson would be a perfect leader...he talks just like Malcolm X and he is absolutely extraordinary speaker and fights for human rights.
I believe he is the future leader.
💎Ms. Rep. Cori Bush
💎Rev. Otis Moss III
💎JUSTIN JONES
💎VAL Demmings
💎Kim FOXX
💙Wendell PIERCE
Political - Nina Turner + Andrew Gillum
Intellectual/Academic - Cornel West
Economic - April Verrett
Faith - Rev Barber
I think there should be a small collective of leaders (3 no more than 4). I'm not sold on who, but here are my thoughts (not in this order):
1) Barber
2) Jeffries (spokesperson)
3) Rye
4) Mystal
5) L. Brown
However, I think our leader(s) should be no older than 45 but that may be hard to come by for them to possess all that is needed.
1. Michelle Obama
2. Angela Davis
3. Rev. William Barber
4. Malcolm Kenyatta
5. Ras Baraka
I’m picking Angela and Roland Martin
We have all parts, the head, arms, legs, feet, body!
Roland Martin
My top 5 Rev.Barber,Marc Morial,April Ryan, Hakkem Jeffries, Malcolm Nance!!!
Know that the negotiator in a community is not necessarily the leader. So the discussion should not be narrowed to one leader. For African Americans, we have to look and see who are the leaders who can represent the various facets of the African American community. Who are the religious leaders, not just the Black Christian leaders, but religious leaders? Who are the neighborhood Leaders, regional leaders? Who are the business leaders, the technological leaders, political leaders, academic leaders, etc?
“The negotiator in a community is not necessarily the leader…” 🎯
I would call Stacey Abrams.
Michelle Obama, Stacey Abrams, Jasmine Crocket, Hakeem Jeffries and Andrew Gilliam
Before I knew most of the names currently in the media I knew a lot about Angela Rye. I think Angela is someone connected who also represents the everyday person. I think she also empathizes with despair a lot of people felt during the last Trump administration. I would first want Angela in the room I don't think she would fold or kiss the ring
My 5 at the moment
Kamala
Barrack and Michelle
Hakeem Jeffries
Jasmine Crockett
Angela Rye
Also Stacy Abrams is a good choice, so is Andrew, Ayanna Presley, Marc Lamont Hill
Crockett
Abrams
Rye
Cross
Gillum
That was a good question.
You need to think beyond "brokerage" politics. With a leader or group of leaders negotiating for us. Social media doesn't even allow for that anymore. We need our community institutions and advocates to build institutional spaces for democratic participation at the community level.
I'm picking the Honorable Auntie Marine Waters, Dr. Umar Johnson, someone from the Nation of Islam, Senator Raphael Warnock, Prof. Eddie Glaud Jr. and Coach. Deion Sanders.
I know that the task was to name 5 potential Black leaders, however, I choose 6 given that the pull of faith remains a tremendous stronghold in the Black community. Thus, I thought it was important to have representatives from the two foremost theologies in of society. I'm not too abreast with the hierarchy of the Nation of Islam. Thus, I only termed it as "someone". I didn't want to put Minister Farrakhan because of his health concerns. I began with Auntie Maxine because she would be an elder on the leadership team, who by the way I suggested would be perfect to chair a disbursement of reparations committee, if that were to ever take place. Anyhow, Angela, Tiff and Andrew or whoever please let me know what you think. I guess I should have had someone with a younger prospective on my leadership team. However, I'd have to think long and hard about who she might be. I said "she" because my list is heavily male-slated. One last point. I think we should actually do our utmost to make whatever leadership team we finalize a reality, assuming that the people who we select accept the role. Enough talk it's action time! Perhaps we could be ready to impact the midterm. Oh yeah, Stacey Abrams should have been on my list because of her electoral expertise. This gets incredibly tough if we limit it to five so we may have to expand the list. Nough said!
My list of 5 would be: Michelle Obama, Jasmine Crockett, Eddie Glaude, Jr., Malcolm Kenyatta, and Justin Jones.
The Squad
Tiffany touched on it. Previously black people had unifying issues such as abolition of slavery or Jim Crow and segregation. If we had one clear goal then the person best leading us towards the goal would be the de facto leader such as Douglas or King. You can judge these people's effectiveness by whether or not they achieved that goal. Andrew talked about us voting more in these key states. So we elect these people and then what? Is just electing Dems the goal? I think the goal should be economics at this point. And we haven't really had anyone making good headway with that.
Did folks VOTE OUT🎯
*Trevon Martin's Judge
*LaQuan Mcdonald judge
Breyona Taylor's Judge
Quintonio LaGrear's Judge
These judges were Allowed back on the bench. By folks ignoring JUDGES
Marc Lamont Hill!!! Is 1 of my picks!!!
Andrew Gillum, Barack Obama, Stacey Abrams, Kamala Harris, and Gary Chambers, Jr.
When we talk about the top five I say go back and read Dr. Michael Eric Dyson's book What Truth Sounds Like. Where he talks about the black people who spoke to Robert Kennedy and the people Harry Belafonte brought to showcase the different dynamics that needed to be in attendance.
SQUAD: Kamala Harris, Obama, J Crocket, H Jefferies, Dr Dyson, Killer Mike, Henry Gates, Lamont Hill, Dr Bryant and Howard John Wesley, Stacy Abrams the honorable Ketanje, Robert Smith, Angela Rye & Cornel West
Top 5: Stacey Abrams, Michelle Obama, Jasmine Crockett, Roland Martin, and Hakeem Jeffries
Obama, Harris/Kamala, Crockett/J., AOC, Kenyatta, Joy Reid
Welcome Home Yall, my top 3 are you guys for real I trust you guys all day, I haveto add Clay Cane Historian, The Jasmine Crocket, two honorable mentions this is hard. FFL Michelle Obama and Karen Hunter i could add more , lol
