  • 4Link4WD Pinion Tool torture test 1: test for tightening a 14 bolt pinion nut (with crush sleeve) in a typical work setup. Meaning this is set up the same as you would to actually use the tool for pinion setup, and the objective of the test is to keep tightening until something breaks, to find the weakest link and to prove that our tool can withstand far beyond normal forces needed to work on your diff.
Results: stripped pinion/nut threads, yoke totally intact, pinion tool completely unaffected, thin wall tubing used for pinion tool extension bent at the end (you should use thick wall tubing/pipe if you have some)
Disclaimer: hanging on the breaker bar can lead to serious injury such as laceration, impalement, concussion, and a broken ass (really, don’t do this 😂)
4Link4WD Pinion Tool torture test 2: Torque limit on tool itself. To do this, a piece of steel round stock was placed in the carrier & against the diff housing to keep it stationary and torque was applied to the pinion tool, bolted to the pinion yoke. So this doesn’t isolate the pinion tool 100% but is pretty close. This is why you see the whole pinion turning a little bit though. So force was applied to the bar at 1 foot increments and each foot is an additional ~200 foot pounds of torque.
Results: The pinion tool handle started to bend at about 1400 foot pounds of torque. At this number, we can confidently say our tool can withstand about twice the force needed for any normal small and medium duty pinion set ups, which include one ton axles, of course.
