  • Kyushu Jangara is a ramen restaurant in Tokyo that has vegan / vegetarian ramen AND pork ramen. We tried it out - see what it's like in my review!

Kyushu Jangara is a perfect Japanese restaurant for vegans / vegetarians and meat-eaters travelling together (like us!). I had the vegan soy sauce ramen noodles, and Phil had the creamy pork tonkotsu. It's the closest vegetarian ramen I've had to regular ramen. It doesn't feel like a chain, but there are several branches in Tokyo. We went to the one in Ginza, but there are also restaurants in Harajuku, Akihabara, Ikebukuro, Akasaka, Nihombashi and a sister restaurant in Hamamutsucho. It's fairly cheap, the food's good and it's a great experience!

Their ramen tastes so good! I went the other week in Harajuku and it was the best ramen I ever had. Even better than Ichiran’s. I’d recommend Kyushu Jangara’s any day.

I went to one of these places! My favourite vegan ramen was engine ramen in kyoto. So so so delicious! And the vegan gyoza omg. My husband had the meat ramen there and said it was equally as delicious. Highly highly recommend engine ramen!!!

We ate at the Akihabara and Harajuku branches on a recent trip - I loved the veggie ramen, it was really tasty and satisfying. My friend enjoyed his pork ramen too. I was so grateful that they had a clearly marked veggie option when it's not traditional. I would definitely go again if I was back in Tokyo.

By the way, will you forgive me if I point out that a native speaker of English would just say: "vegan tourist" rather than "tourist of vegan"?
And perhaps I might ask for some help with the Japanese language?
I found the complicated kanji: 覆 which I think can form a verb pronounced with long 'o' to mean 'to veil' or 'to cover'.
So can I use this in the plain volitional from in a phrase meaning 'let's veil the queen' which consists entirely of the sound 'jo' followed repeated 'o' sounds?
      女王を覆おう
If so, can I really push my luck and address this encouragement to the sakura blossoms by saying:
      女王を覆おう桜花 ?
It would make a strangely poetic way to play my Joker 🤭

      Happy New Year Fred !
Thank you for comment, point and sorry for late to reply.
      And, about your question.
      It's little hard for me.
      In basically,
      覆い:noun
      覆う:verb
I guess, probably your meaning is,
      cover : usual expression
      veil : romantic expression
      I guess in your case,
      女王を覆おう
      ≒ 女王を桜花で覆おう
      So, I guess
      let's veil the queen
≒let's veil the queen by cherry blossom petals
I'm sorry for not work to you.
If possible, please show the forward and rearward sentence of 覆う in Japanese.
      こちらこそ、今年も宜しくお願いします。

I've learnt if there's a big queue outside a restaurant in Japan its always really good. To be honest though I normally just eat from the Konbini when I go to Japan :p
Did Phil try the vegan ramen? Just wondered how it compares.
Hope you had a good Christmas 🎄

I've heard that too, about queues! Phil didn't try the vegan ramen here, but he had the vegan tonkotsu at T's TanTan and said it was similar to pork tonkotsu, but quite not as heavy or creamy.

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'm not sure, I'm afraid - on the menu it didn't say anything about gluten free noodles, so I'd guess not, as ramen noodles usually contain gluten.
I think you can get gluten free dishes at T's TanTan (my fav!) - at least as I remember they had pretty good allergy labelling on their menu.

If you can get soba noodles - and make sure that they are 100% buckwheat - then they are naturally gluten-free
