GX470 PX6 Android integration with OEM reverse camera

  • It’s reasonable to ask yourself before doing this whether to go the aftermarket camera route and run the RCA cable from the back of the car. This video should help to fill a void in the GX470 community on how to wire in the existing OEM camera if you decide on this path, as well as how I wired in my front camera.
    I bought my PX6 Android unit for my 2008 GX470 from Rhino Radio: rhinoradios.co... and couldn’t be happier. I found their prices to be the best and the code “3%” will save you another ~$20.
    If you going to be getting a camera for the front, make sure that you specify to send a front compatible camera (which you will cut a wire on to flip the image). Alternatively, you can buy a compatible front camera here: www.amazon.com...
    For 2007-2009, you will need to provide 6V to the OEM reverse camera. I used a Volt-39 to do this: www.amazon.com....
    2002-2006 is apparently 12V, which I cover as well.
    Shoutouts to @RyanBlace on the Club Lexus forum for filling in a few gaps for me. www.clublexus.... ; @RhinoRadios for their instructions (which could be more explicit on the reverse trigger wire) rrcs.zendesk.c... ; and @dennisblackstock for this video which has some great schematics from 5:45 for some other Lexus models but he put me onto the Volt-39: • Video

    FWIW I purchased an OEM 07-09 GX470 backup camera and it worked on my 2006 GX470 (factory wiring, factory NAV unit). I had to do this because the OEM '06 camera did not fit the mount of the Bison Gear tire carrier I installed.
    If the '06 sends 12V to the camera, then the '07-09 camera still works on 12V. I did not confirm voltage, but it did work.

    Great video, my px6 may have been installed and skipped this step. No wonder my rear camera is not working

    Thanks for this! I’m not as industrious as you, I’m going to have an installer put in a px6. Maybe this will help him use the existing oem camera.

    How does the CV+ and CV- conversion to RCA work? You mentioned R/L RCA cable, which one goes to the + vs -? Would like to make the stock camera work thanks!

      Follow up question, can we just tap into the same wires on the rear camera harness in the trunk door? I have to run some cables from the back for my sub so I was thinking tapping in at the back would be easier than getting into that tight spot.

      Hi Andrew, great video but please clarify the CV- and CV+ conversion to RCA cable. I’m also stuck at this stage.

      @@hap1924 i personally ended up tapping into the harness in the trunk door. I don't recall the exact connection I made but might be going back in the same area today for another upgrade. But just fyi, if you haven't worked with RCA cables before, inside there are two wires not just one like a speaker cable. There is a central cable and then there is shielding all around that is its own cable. I would guess that you can mix and match and if it doesn't work one way try the other. Ex. Try CV- to the shield and CV+ to the central wire first, if that doesn't work try the other way around.

      @@VG-dk9fh I did more research online and found the answer. Yes, I was baffled about cutting the RCA and connecting to the CV+ and CV- wires because at first I only saw the white coated wire after cutting the RCA plug off. The “shield” was difficult to detect. You are correct, the RCA White coated wire connects to CV+ and the RCA Shield connects to CV-.
      Thanks for your reply!

    How do you like the wireless carplay module?

    • @atanner88
      @atanner88  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Adam - it’s not “seamless” but it does the job. Sometimes it takes a minute to kick in which can be annoying but all things considered, it’s pretty good for an aftermarket system! I’d be curious if there are newer versions now shipping with the unit

    Will wiring work for 2005 gx?

    • @atanner88
      @atanner88  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes but it’s slightly different than the 07-09. I tried my best to include commentary and schematics on the difference between the 02-06 and the 07-09
