We installed the PX6 a couple of days ago and love it! Your installation video and walkthrough definitely made it worthwhile especially working out the glitches. We also ordered the 360 camera and looking forward to your installation video for guidance!

You helped me with setting my time. I had both of my features set to auto so I wasn’t able to set my time zone.
To calibrate the pitch and roll, you need to be on a level surface. Then tap and hold onto the circle you want to calibrate. You’ll see the car adjust and move once it’s calibrated. You can do these for both circles. Hope this helps
I need to learn how to download apps and figure out how to change my upload picture. I have a lambo on mine. Lol
shannon k Thank you for telling me how to calibrate the pitch and roll. Who would have thought that it was that simple! If you want to change the logo you will need to open the logo app, it will allow you to change your car from there. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for review)) For calibration of gyroscope, try to press and hold for a 5-10 seconds on left pictore of the car. It will nullify it to zero (upright) position))

I just did the install for the quickboot version with android 9 for my gx and love it. I did need assistance from Phoenix to help with settings for the climate and some other internal settings. Worked great and has better sound than the oem. I am putting different speakers and an amp in when they get delivered.
northernheat did you have non nav originally? Also do you have ML system in your car, because I know that it’s harder to swap out the speakers.
@@nkautos i had the nav. Glad to have it gone. I do have the mark levinson. I am completely taking them out though along with amp and doing full aftermarket replacement.
Really have to emphasize the stock speakers sound way better with this head unit. I am looking forward to receiving my order for the focal flax evo 3ways for the front and matching coaxial set for the rear. Not sure what/if i am doing about base. Pretty sure the speakers will carry more base than the stock sub. I dont really want an external speaker box either.

northernheat I have swapped the 6x9ML for some pioneer speakers in the front doors because my ML where blown. Hope to in the future swap out all the ML speakers for some better ones. The big problem is finding a shallow sub for the rear, I’ve seen people run into problems with it fitting in the OEM sub box. I have thought about getting a custom firmware for the radio I just haven’t gotten around to doing it.
The Mark Levinson speakers are awesome. You need to go into the “console” menu then “amp info” and adjust the volume there - “cur volume”
It’s a different volume adjustment than the one that’s rigged up to your steering wheel / appears in the bottom right corner. I call it the “software” adjustment. I seem to get the best results by maxing this out at 60.
That makes the “software” volume top out around 13/40 before it gets distorted - but this combination is comparable to the cd quality audio from the oem unit at max volume - which is very loud, has no distortion, and has banging bass.

My biggest concern with purchasing this unit is audio adjustments.. crossover, pith , slope, etc. is there an app you can download for these fine tuning adjustments? Also curious about RCA inputs etc lm looking to upgrade the entire system with all new speakers and amps.
A really nice addition to this device would be custom skins. Also, the Lexus logo instead of an image of the car would be classier.
I have installed a custom firmware that allows you to add custom boot screens and backgrounds. I will show this in a future video!
FYI....Just installed a brand new unit into my GX470. Firmware was dated 10/20/2020 and all AC controls are not responsive and can be controlled from within the app on the screen. All seems very smooth now compared to what I have been seeing on these reviews. It also includes day and night brightness presets.
I have a custom firmware installed now that has fixed all those problems as well. Also have some upgrades and different themes. Definitely prefer the custom firmware over the one that comes with the unit

Very good video. Can you tell me how to access the GX maintenance reminders warnings that pop up on the dash that remind you to do oil changes and tire rotations?
Unfortunately does settings won't be accessible with this unit
so does the pitch roll feature and tire pressure monitoring function proprerly as of now? also wanted to ask because i saw a couple different layouts but can you customize and choose between different styles or themes? i saw the a/c and heating vent control portion setup and looking totally different was wondering if that was a firmwire upgrade or maybe as simple as changing themes on the setup page or something like that..
lastly would you recommend this unit to others looking to update their outdated headunit/hvac controls? or would it be easier and more functional keeping that stock nav hvac screen and just update the lower cassette portion using a smaller singer din head unit upgrade with bluetooth or built in carplay or something like that? or is the phoenix screen really worth it? should i do with this tesla styled unit over anything else out there? is it that good? just a couple questions i was hoping you could take the time to help me answer about this unit... thanks and have a great day stay safe and god bless,

Peter Piccolo Hello Peter, thank you for supporting the channel! To answer your questions, the pitch unfortunately still doesn’t work. The screen I have is the default firmware, there are users who have modified the system and updated it to different versions. These are custom and are available on a few Facebook groups. I plan to upgrade the firmware in the future. The unit is pretty solid, I would however recommend going for the one with more RAM and faster booting because it is a lot more responsive than the base model. I think it’s really good for the money and it has many options that can be customized. The positive part is that you can edit the unit however you like with a little time and a computer handy! This is something that you will not likely be able to do with any other unit. Hopefully that helped a little! If you have anymore questions Please leave a comment and I will get back to you!
I have a 2009 gx470 and have been looking for an upgrade with CarPlay. Couple questions can you skip song tracks using the < > buttons on the steering wheel? Or just on the touch screen. You mentioned you have auto start which I have also, were there any issues with the climate controls retaining its last used settings? Or does it reset after the car is turned off. I want to be able to still heat or cool my car using my auto start using my last heat setting before turning off the car. And last I read that the Bluetooth quality is bad was this issue fixed? Thanks for post!
Hello, all the steering wheel settings are retained and allow for you to skip songs or tracks. The climate control also stays at the last setting which allows you to warmup your car with your remote start. The Bluetooth can be fixed with adding a Carplay dongle or updating the firmware. I hope this helps!

@@nkautos I have a 2007 LC. Sergey brought me through the firmware update for my rig. All is well. Even sounds better. I have an aftermarket speaker and amp and sub.

Does this unit bypass the factory ML amplifier? Thanks for the comprehensive review!
This unit is plug and play and allows you to use the ML amp. There are also options that allow an aftermarket amp to be run in series. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask!
What’s the protocol for the Lexus gx470? My ac controls won’t work
Great video! How did you get the factory reverse camera to work?
CoCo I went ahead and purchased an aftermarket 360 camera. The OEM camera required splicing to be able to retrofit.
Great video. Do you have any idea why I can't download apps anymore? I have my wifi on and I can play and open the current apps but I'm unable to download any new apps.
Jon P Have you tried to reboot the system? I would try to disconnect it completely and connect it back. Also I would just double check to see if you maybe accidentally turned on airplane mode. Let me know how you fix it!
Do I need the Apple CarPlay to make my iPhone work with this? Do you like the TPMS - did you get the internal or external version? I would like to see each tire’s pressure...
You can use the firmware that comes with the unit for your iPhone. If you want to use Carplay then you need to buy the extra dongle. I have the external TPMS which is nice if the battery ever goes out!
What about navigating / can you use Waze?
Can the Tesla screen be installed on 2014 GX460 or it's mainly for the 470s? I'm about to shop for 460! Which 360 cameras r u going to use? What brand?
A. Muhammad It is available for the 460, but it comes as a different unit. I got the 360 camera from the Pheonix automotive website but I don’t recommend getting it since I have ran into nothing but problems with the install and the technical support from the company. I would recommend getting a different camera if possible!
Prices on ebay have dropped dramatically. What model of this radio would you get at this point? seem they are all coming from same warehouse.

I haven’t had any problems with the climate control buttons. The unit has both physical and touch screen buttons to control the climate control which works great if you want to chose between the two of them

I noticed that you've swapped out the cigarette lighter for a USB port. Is there a release point to get the lighter out of the moulding. I have the wires disconnected but am having some difficulty getting it to come out. I don't want to break the housing. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, I am sorry for the late reply. I replaced my cigarette lighter at the same time I wrapped my wood trims. For this I took out the shifter assembly and the plastic pieces around it. After removing that the back plastic piece popped out. There are a couple of forums on Club-Lexus that show how to splice and install the USB connections.
@@nkautos, no worries about the reply timing. I replaced the cigarette that's located just under the HU while I still had everything disassembled.
Hi - Does this Phoenix radio work with any other amp for the GX470 besides the Mark Levinson amp that comes with the SUV? My ML amp is shot and would rather buy a different amp rather than spend $400 to get the ML amp fixed. If you could suggest other amps that works with this Phoenix amp that I can use with GX470 I would appreciate it. I'm ok to change out the speakers as well but would not want to change out the entire wiring system. Thanks
It shouldn't be a problem with an aftermarket AMP. I would recommend a kicker AMP, or something with good ratings off of Critchfield's website.
Have you dealt with battery drain issues or heard of these issues? My 04-Non Nav is dead after about a week. It could be coincidence that it began happening shortly after the PX6 install. I also could have a weak alternator which I will check out next.
I haven’t had any issues so far luckily. I replaced my battery not long ago before I installed my unit and it’s been holding up great so far!

Unfortunately it is lost when you remove the OEM unit

I just purchased my father's Lexus and he has this unit in it, and I am having a few issues. I am not sure if you are able to respond to help out, but if you could either guide me to a place or answer that would be amazing! One thing I have noticed is an increase in volume after hanging up a Bluetooth-connected call. It used to happen when I just turned the car on but that no longer happens. I also cannot seem to figure out how to change the language input in the google play store. When I try to search for apps it brings up Chinese characters or doesn't give me the option I want. I have tried changing the keyboard but that did nothing. How did you get the full keyboard in english? Thanks for the video, at first I totally just wanted to get rid of this unit but after watching this I am actually thinking about keeping it!
I would try to get in touch with somebody on the Facebook group named "Tesla Style. Firmware and HeadUnits" There are a lot of firmware specialists and people that know the unit from inside out. They will definitely be able to help you out!
I think there is a new version that has double the ram and storage and i think people say that helps with the lag.
4Runner4life98 the lag isn’t horrible, just at times after running the car for a while like on a road trip, you can tell the unit gets a little slower and less responsive
I have the fastest one and it's still slow. It's very buggy. Im gonna sell mine and do a different setup unfortunately
The supplier you purchased this from has the prices at over 500% of what you can buy off AliExpress. These units normally go for between US$400 to $800.
I tried to buy a unit off of Alibaba.com and couldn’t get my credit card company to approve it. I have heard people say that the ones of Alibaba come with problems and they have a hard time returning them or getting in contact with the seller. I decided to get mine off of Pheonix Automotive to ensure I could swap my unit if I ran into problems. I ended up paying the same amount as the Alibaba.com ones and got the unit faster and had some customer support aswell. Definitely a way better choice!
@@nkautos okay man. Glad to hear. I just ordered mines on AliExpress for US$410 (very similar to the one in your application) - I hope it works well. They did not have for my vehicle so I had no option anyway.

Did you try resetting the unit? Also double check all the connections, it seems like you might have a loose climate control wire. Also check your system settings to see if the right vehicle is selected for climate settings.

Oem back up camera, or aftermarket unit meant to work with this system?
You can splice the wires into the unit but I would recommend to get a kit. I showed one off in my most recent video.
I put in a new system. However, the technician cannot find a way to turn the subwoofer on. Do you know? Thank you
The subwoofer was working when I booted my unit up. I would try and check the fuses, or reset the radios amplifier settings
Take off the screen protector that came stock to avoid screen scratches those things mess up the touch sensor
If u wanted to update your speakers what would u recommend
I have upgraded my 6x7 speakers in the front with some generic speakers off of Crutchfield.com and have had great sound improvements. I am still trying to work something out for the sub in the back. The sub box is too small and shallow for most subs. There are a few forums on how to install a kicker sub but haven’t found much success with that yet.
Is there an option to put in a SIMM card for data as if it was a phone?
C.A. Nix III no SIM card unfortunately but you could use your phones hotspot or even get a OBD WiFi module that gives you WiFi to your car on longer trips!

Overall, are you happy with this system? I have purchased a similar screen for my prado but haven't installed it because I am having second thoughts and suddenly I don't want to loose my climate control knobs that I am so used to :(
I am thrilled with the screen. Not having Bluetooth and other awesome firmware's on the stock radio really made the car feel outdated. Now I feel that I have everything I need in one spot. The climate control problem that some people have can be fixed with changing some advanced settings along with getting a patch in other cases. Fortunately I didn't have this problem and my unit has been running top notch!

I bought my GX with the system already installed its always making a buzz sound like it’s searching for radio station whenever the system is turned on and playing something. Do you know any ways to fix it?
I'm not sure what it could be, but I would recommend doing a hard reboot and maybe disconnecting the unit for 30 minutes. If that doesn't help then check if the antenna in the back is tightened all the way
Found this on another site: The background noise is the multi-ground setup the in stock system, if you go to an aftermarket amp and single ground, it's completely gone.
Can you add third party apps? And can you split screen two app one on top the other the bottom
You can download APK files and different apps off a USB stick or online. Splitting the screens is also an option with a custom firmware.

I don’t believe that you can upgrade your unit. The only thing you can do is get a firmware upgrade. I will be making a video about that in the upcoming future!

Yes I had it installed for a while but took it off due to not wanting to drill holes in the side mirrors

Yes it does, in the top left corner

Yes this unit bypasses the CD function, but there are a few ways to still include it

when your screen rotates how do u reverse it
There should be a back arrow on the bottom left of the screen. If I ever run into problems I just click that once and it goes back.
Did the 6 DVD CD changer work
Azzam Abdillah unfortunately no, the unit has no way of connecting to the CD player
NK Autos but when I buy my unit the seller say it’s work for the DVD players
Azzam Abdillah that is odd. There is no way of connecting the signal from the cd to the unit.

sorryociffer The dual zones still work, you can use the side buttons to adjust the temperature for both sides.
Question about audio oriented apps: is anyone familiar with Parametric EQ apps that work well with this unit. If so, how many bands? Bandwidth adjustable bands y/n. Cost?

GX470 system has several hot spots, especially in midrange. Graphic EQs are the wrong tool for the job.

what about battery drain ?
I haven't had any issues with battery drain on my unit!
Some things deserve physical knobs/switches, they wasted space on the sides by not adding more. I couldn't use this just because there's no physical volume knob...
The steering wheel buttons along with the climate control ones on the unit are sufficient after getting used to the unit. I do agree with you that the touch screen may be difficult to operate during driving but the additions the unit provides is worth it in my opinion

Nope, I had the garage door opened in the back aswell as a separate door and window. Safety first!

It wont be plug and play but you can splice the wires to the unit
If they only had Tesla style units that ran off satellite (sigh)

There is a Facebook group that specializes in the Firmware's. The groups name is Tesla Style. Firmware and HeadUnits. They will be able to help you with one there!
Chinese headunits give all the features like modern car headunits . But they dont care about audio quality . I’m sure original factory radio sound way better than this chinese one .
I find that the audio sounds just as good as the old ML unit did. I have also swapped out the old ML speakers for some new ones. ML is good but it can’t compare to what’s out on the market now!
I have no sound issues and many did reviews on this unit and have no issues. Probably a bad unit

I haven’t had any problems. I think it’s way better than the OEM unit, definitely has a lot more options when it comes to customization.
