I think it's great that your intro before the main video is so short. That's very appealing to continue watching! BTW, this was a fantastic short tip that is 100% on point!
Thank you. Always good to be reminded of how to get maximum advantage from the time available flying. I'm travelling to north-west Spain in September for part of the Camino. I'll keep your advice in mind. 6am starts on the hike are common. 7am to 8am would be golden hour there at that time of year. Evenings will mean I will have to hike a minimum of 1km away from the towns I'll be staying in, due to Spanish drone laws. I watched your video on taking drones on airplanes yesterday. Greatly appreciated the benefit of having your experience to go by.
Very true yes, my last video was on a location that I usually travel through during the middle of the day. This time I was able to do it a bit later, makes it look completely different. Thanks for all the drone videos and tips. They are great!
hey jake when you use drones to film one before sunrise and after sunset. do you use ND filters? or if I own the mavic 3 should i messing with the aperture?
O'Hare Airport! Yes! ...er...um...on second thought...no. So, a couple of questions; Did you use the Mini3 for the upward shot on the water tower? What filter did you use when getting the sun shots? Thanks for the education.
That was O'Hare lol I forgot to film my landing in NC lol. This was all filmed with the Mavic 3 except for the few shots iii chicago which was the mini 3. I used ND16 if I remember correctly
You just proved it Jake. Everyone says "you can't make stunning videos without exotic locations like DJI uses to sell drones" - there's truth in that, but it's not ALL location, as you illustrate perfectly 😉 -and yes, I do at least 75% of my footage during Golden & Blue Hours, here... in North Carolina 😆 PS Evo 2 Pro has the most beautiful lens flare of any of my drones, multi-colored with jeweled pentagrams plus a halo at straight on sun.
Excellent advise here, thanks! Just started droning last month to add interesting perspective to live band videos I've been doing a couple years. You don't really have much control of lighting outside so we get what we can during the best time of day!
Just goes to show that you can indeed shoot epic drone videos (even if your not in Alaska)! Always loved the "Golden Hour" for photos and videography! Thanks Jake, keep up the great videos you do!
Great advice! We do realestate videos, and the realtors always want to shoot at noon! It's so difficult to get them to understand, and they definitely don't want to pay for us to come out twice which is sometimes ideal for certain properties.
@@JakeSloan thanks! I’m still learning when to use them and when not to. And even in the middle of the day I have a hard time using anything darker than an 8 or even a 16, but lots of people tell me that I should be using something darker, 16-32.
Agree a lot with getting proper lighting as the main thing to get drone footage looking good. Took me a while to realize midday sun is actually quite boring for drone footage.
Having fun with the Wide Angle Lens for Mini 3 Pro. Not sure why DJI dropped it before many got out there but Adorama has them on close out. Tip: Order as guest, not logged in or shipping is crazy priced. I logged off my account and got one for $41 shipped to North Carolina. Works in ALL modes including Focus Track (my Mavic 3 works in all but Focus Track after FW V01.00.0700 & 0800)
@@JakeSloan ME either, but yep. Some barrel distortion but works in all modes including Focus Track and even Panorama- Mini 3 Pro has no mechanism to detect its presence, which might be why they pulled it - DJI Hates not having control, lol! Looks noticeably wide in Portrait Mode footage. A great creative little tool. Grab one while you can, just make sure it's not a pre-order and stock still exists. Adorama still has some, but they won't last.
Always great info and insight, Jake. Thanks for this and have a great day! 😀PS. As per the comment below "We do real estate videos, and the realtors always want to shoot at noon!" -- YES WE DO!!! Until now.
Great tip. Thanks for the tutorial... Next time your over in the Tarheel State, give me shout, like to meet in person instead of through youtube lol... Thanks for all your great content.
Ding ding ding! We've got a winner here. Now the question, can you take the crappy midday footage and make it look better? You should make a video on how to do that
Big difference. One question about Alaska , what’s with the Mosquitos? I’ve never been to Alaska , but I see TONS AND TONS of mosquitos during filming of cops , and reality TV shows filmed there ! I just couldn’t do it !!!
If I have control over the time of day, 100% golden hour every time with my Air 2s. I think this is the most important piece of advice for getting the best quality. Thanks for the great example!

Good shots and tips Jake.

I do usually ND 4 or ND 8 and then I use the aperture from there
@@JakeSloan Thank you for getting back to me
Thank you Jake. I knew where you were going to go with this, I hear it all the time. I do better with the late days shots! Good video.
nice I figured you did!!
Thanks for the great aerial videography lighting tip! 🤩
You bet!

Your the man Jake . I’m learning a ton from you brother. Thanks for your expertise 👍👊🏻
Thank you sir! One of these days we are going to meet up!!
@@JakeSloan you know it bro . 👊🏻

NICE! You have some incredibly beautiful spots there too. I'll have to check out some of your videos to see that lens flare!

Until now! No more noon shots! 😀
send them this video! lol
I went to HPU! I work now in the media industry and studied video and marketing there! Did you film video for them?
fantastic!! such a cool area, unfortunately I can't say what I was there filming due to NDA's but it was very cool
👍🏽 great vid man
ty sir
Ok., that is a great tip! But I would like to know if you use a ND filter during golden hour, or not? If so, which one? Thanks!
I do usually ND4 or ND8 and then adjust with aperture from there on the Mavic 3
@@JakeSloan thanks! I’m still learning when to use them and when not to. And even in the middle of the day I have a hard time using anything darker than an 8 or even a 16, but lots of people tell me that I should be using something darker, 16-32.
Excellent video. I always learn. Jake how do you like that DJI mic?
thank you sir and I absolutely LOVE the DJI mic
At 3.30 did you colour grade?
Thanks for tip
yes I did

Welcome to North Carolina please make it to lake Norman for the amazing sunset

Thanks and I’d love to do a meet up there if I make it that way again!
I live in central North Carolina, close to High Point. Would like an opportunity to talk in person if you are in the area again.
I wish I had the time to do a meetup when I was down there! hopefully next time
Also..., sunset changes color temperature as well as brightness and highlights very fast and it makes your footage very inconsistent.
yes it does

We have lots of them! It’s something most northern places deal with
seen you carrying quads on your back... where the footage?? :)
it's in various videos here and there 😏
👍👍✌️
