  • The New Sandling Junction Build Ep 8 | The Harbour Development and more.
I wanted to bring you all up to speed on how the area of the harbour has developed since I asked for some advice a couple of videos ago.
Many answered my call and gave great advice, I want to thank you all.

Yet another excellent video, showing your skills that overcome adversity. Thanks Paul.

Thanks for the update Paul. I suspect that when the track in this scene is set in cobbles or whatever road surface you use, you won't notice it as much as you do when it's on bare boards. In the past (many, many years ago) I used a very thin embossed plastic sheet for a dock area which was nice and easy to use, and easy to trim away once glued in as inevitably certain locos/wagons catch when others don't.

Another day at model railroading. As for the frog, maybe the frog wire is broken. Time for an ohm meter.🤪

Great to see trains running on your harbour scene Paul. What's that old saying you (we) learn by our mistakes, just think next time you install a point I bet you make sure you use a 10 mm to allow enough room for the throw lol. Many thanks for update take care regards Barry..👍

Yes a lot of track action and it's going to take you a looong time to do the convincing scenery but hey as you say it's your layout so good on you - it does mean a lot of content for us to watch.

I would have run the train and wagons, before any GLUING was put in place, now that the track is glued down, this is what you get. The Double Slip and 2 and 3 way have been Produced for a long time now, and for some reason lots of people seem to have trouble with them for one reason or another, as I mentioned earlier I have now seen the 060's and short wagons I don't really see any problems, but I think there should have been TRAINs RAN before any GLUE

WELL DONE with fitting out the tracks and points. Now I see some Wagons and their length. The 060s and these fit in nicely. Just wonder how busy the Harbour was and the Number of loaded fishing boats coming in or do they come in when ever they a full. "McKinley Railway" do have their Wagons in sets of 3, this is a time reducing factor when shunting, I am not sure if after the 3 way point there is enough room for any Multi shunting.

In truth I was planning for a loco only to move onto that little track and have access to any wagons on any of the three lines, maybe that is a mistake, that is what I have said above and with the comments on it, I am wondering if indeed, through my lack of knowledge I have done the wrong thing, cheers P

I’m confused what the three-way is doing for you. You can’t get a wagon with an engine past it - it can’t be used, can it? I think your instinct that you were trying to do too much in too small an area was absolutely correct!

@@Sandlingjunction No, no ..., you need a stub of track like that, and its length should be long enough to accommodate the biggest engine you expect to use on trains arriving at this harbour village. It will function as the escape track for the engine after it uncouples from its train; this goes hand-in-hand with always having at least one road clear so that the engine can run around the wagons to do shunting and be able to depart with a train after doing work.
To answer your musing question at one point during the video: yes you have one too many tracks. You envisage this area as a smallish fishing village (which would be lucky to be served by even two, short, trains a day of perhaps 5-6 wagons); what I see has more the appearance of lots of 'wagon storage', way out of proportion to the needs of the village, which as is has no customer sidings anyway.
You have the potential for a fantastic layout that will give many years of pleasure and satisfaction from build to full operation; just don't get carried away with track-mania!
      Cheers.

Is it just your diesels that have sound chips, or is it everything you’ve got that you use?

    • @Sandlingjunction
      @Sandlingjunction  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have both sound chipped but not all my locos I wish, lol, cheers P

Is the diesel shunter a Class 08 or a Class 11?
