I never thought the BBC Narnia Aslan looked realistic, it looked nothing like a real Lion. But the BBC versions were far better than the Disney films IMO. Great memories watching those series, shame they never get repeated on TV anymore, but I suppose they would look quite dated today.
@@Anne123N I agree. There's a certain charm and warmth to the BBC versions which the Disney films are lacking in. The use of traditional effects over CGI makes a difference I think, far too much CGI in the films.
I agree, the BBC one looked fake and it looked like a doll, but at least it was real. The CGI one is so fake that the kids constantly look either past the animation or they look really bored. It's obvious that they didn't actually see a talking lion in front of them. I had the same issues with the Star Wars prequels where Obi-Wan doesn't react to General Grievous despite Grievous taking out several lightsabers and moving them really fast in front of the Jedi Master. I assume this comes from the actor just staring at a blank blue or green wall, he had no clue how Grievous was even supposed to look like.
For being 1- a puppet made in 1989, and 2- being fully articulated and 3- remote controlled skeleton underneath - this is very realistic and really well done.
It’s looks like it’s really alive, those glasses and that northern accent are amazing.
You had me in the first half
What do you mean "not real"? I absolutely would be standing there petting him too and not feeling one bit silly about it.
This series was fantastic when I was young and have watched it again recently. Superb
Aslan is so freaking cute 😱😍😍
Amazing work. So majestic and elegant looking. I love puppetry over cgi. Glad to find this vhs film on history.
Incredible lion for its time! Looks so realistic
Omg the roar is part of the model Thats so cool
@Mayson Kristopher I have them all on DVD. But thanks for the tip.
I wonder what ever happen to the costume and where he is now?
That would be a perfect scare prank for random people outside for a walk
Ailsa Berk was in the costume front and in the back of the costume was William Todd-Jones.
