Antames I totally agree, I've seen The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and the Silver Chair at least 30 times by now👍
It follows the book closer. And is better in that sense, yes. Unlike the movie, which seems to go at fast pace. But since the movie I have always wondered why BBC didn't give Peter and Edmund some armor during the battle. But, at least they both wore armors in the sequel...
@Soy Allergies That's okay! The '05 one definitely has more of a cinematic movie edge to it, while the 90s felt more like a theatrical production. But they are both good in their own way.
@@antames I agree with your statement. They both are good. BBC has the whole story and characters but is sort of fakey with it's visual effects and puppets, while the 2005 is better done technical wise but shorter and doesn't have everything but still does a wonderful job.
In terms of faithfulness to the books, it's the BBC version, but I do think the 2005 version was the better overall version in terms of acting, effects, action, cinematography, dialogue and it was still faithful enough.
Wow thanks for sharing this:) Barbara seems such a pleasant lady and Sophie is so cute! I will always love the older versions better, coz they stick so much to the books:)
The presenter is speaking with highly manicured BBC English. You don't hear it much anymore. Can you imagine a BBC presenter asking a child actor today "It has rather a lot of religious echoes in it doesn't it, with Aslan being rather like Jesus Christ and dying at the end?" This little interview has a dignity to it. All three are speaking fairly quietly, informatively and aren't showing off. When did we become so brash and American?
I would have crapped my pants if I was sitting next to Barbara Kellerman at that time as a then 6 year old boy. She was the quintessential White Witch. Absolutely, legitimately terrifying. You knew what she was capable of. She was dangerous, so all she needed were those incredible facial expressions and you knew something terrible was about to happen.
Barbara Kellermann's White Witch gave me nightmares as a little girl. Quite the power of make up given how beautiful and friendly she looks in real life.
For me, it’s hard to believe Barbara Kelleman is younger here than I am now! What a nice lady! 😊 Sophie’s really sweet too! What I find weird is Sophie looks younger and smaller here than she does in the series, and yet this was filmed after they’d made it!
Barbara Kellerman was a much better cast and work as the witch compared to the one in the remake. Just about everything about this miniseries was better than the cinematic remake.
@Brendio3768 The old versions are closer to the stories than the new ones. These old ones are at time word for word from the book whereas the new ones created their own subpolts and rearrange the story however they wish. Also the animations were stated of the art at the time, the special effectf os today will no doubt be described as 'terrible' by the next generation.
Barbara Kellerman was really good as the white witch i now have the 1988 film of the The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe on dvd i also have The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe 2005 version also on dvd with Tilda Swinton as the White Witch. i had the sliver chair on video once Barbara Kellerman was really good in that too playing the green lady who turned into a snake.
Dear me, I had _such_ a crush on Kellerman as a young lad! Pretty sure she's what ignited my lifelong infatuation with fair-skinned, statuesque, overbearing women, who've been stringing me along with Turkish Delight ever since... xP
Barbara Kellerman is a very under-rated actress. I love her. My only challenge to her portrayal as the White Witch is that she could have been more 'seductive'. I thought Tilda Swinton was stronger in this area.
@gogetyourverb I don't think her characterization is more faithful, but she definitely LOOKS more like the White Witch that the book described. I really don't get the blonde hair in the newer one.
@gogetyourverb While I do agree, I feel that Tilda's interpretation was a bit scarier, whereas with Barbara, I actually in places found her funny (...THE WHOLE OF NARNIA WILL BE OVERTURNED, AND PERISH IN FIRE AND WATERRRRRR!). I think it was a fair interpretation, just kind of hammy.
I have to disagree. tilda's portrayal makes me think more of Mommy Dearest than the White Witch. I would much have preferred that the Waldon Media movies had stuck to the story rather thanllkinds of stuff that never happened.
I don't go much on Barbara Kellerman's portrayal these days. As a kid, the series was superb and Kellerman's witch was terrifying. Now, Kellerman's portrayal just seems overplayed, the rage outbursts seem comical and the straight-and-narrow following of the book just felt forced. It's easy to criticise the Walden Media production for its deviations from the original source material, but watching both makes you realise why they did, and TBH I prefer Swinton's more "seductive" Witch.
She was in a segment of the Monster Club. A mish mash of horror comedy from the folk at Amicus. She looks utterly gorgeous and incredibly beautiful there.
Thumbs up if you agree this version is better than the 2005 version. I certainly think so.

This series was on tv almost every Christmas when i was little. And every year, as soon as it ended, i read all the narnia books.
Barbara's so beautiful.
Barbara Kellerman will always be the best, most terrifying White Witch
Barbara seems very warm and lovely in real life….the complete opposite of her character of the white witch!! She’s a very talented actress!!
And old hag, the green lady.
Wow thanks for sharing this:) Barbara seems such a pleasant lady and Sophie is so cute! I will always love the older versions better, coz they stick so much to the books:)
Sophie Wilcox sounds almost like Georgie Henley
Barbara is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO beautiful here. That hair!!!!!!!
Barbara is simply mesmerizing!

best thing ever said !! :o
I Agree
I went to a Catholic Primary School at the time and we did a production of this. I thought Aslan was like our Saviour
Blame it on Ebonics.
She is not the snow queen, I don't know why people say that. She is the white witch not the snow queen, bad journalism.
snow Queen is a characters by Hans Christian Andersen though
@@mrbojangles8133 True =)
And before you could call her that, her name was Jadis
And yet it was she who made it always winter, but never Christmas, for a hundred years.

........ HAAAAOOOW *DAAAAARE* YOU COME ALONE!!!!!!
I told you again, and AGAIN to bring the others with you!
As an 11 year old in 1988 I fancied Sophie Wilcox (Lucy). Now looking back at this interview at 46 I find myself fancying Barbara Kellermann. 😂
@acemail8608 I can understand both. Sophie I'd pretty and charming, and altogether very likeable, and Barbara I'd beautiful ❤
Barbara Kellermann's White Witch gave me nightmares as a little girl. Quite the power of make up given how beautiful and friendly she looks in real life.
Barbara looks very different than when she plays in the series. She has a nice smile.
In every role.

Maybe it was shyness?
@@schoo9256 possibly, yes! 😊
Barbara is so nice and smiley, lol. Her white witch was terrifying!
I see now why Barbara was also in PCDT and SC...what a beauty!
Thanks a millions for creating incredible memories and nostalgic serial for us as yesterday's generation.
GREETINGS FROM IRAN ❤ IRAN 🇮🇷
Sophie Wilcox was absolutely brilliant in the Show.
Barbara Kellerman, what an amazing character actress.
Barbara was absolutely gorgeous.

I keep watching Sea Wolves , Barbara Kellerman is fantastic

It kind of rocks my world that the White Witch is actually so incredibly elegant and beautiful....not sure how I feel about this. :-P
You're right lol
Barbara was gorgeous...
Barbara Kellerman was a babe!
+1million
And still is
Watching it you can tell that Barbara loved playing that character LMAO.

They taped down her breasts if you notice. They didn’t want to sexualise the witch because it was a show aimed at children, I’m guessing.
You oughta watch her in Silver Chair as the Queen of the Underworld. Scaaaary
@gogetyourverb I don't think her characterization is more faithful, but she definitely LOOKS more like the White Witch that the book described. I really don't get the blonde hair in the newer one.
Turkish Delight!
Is The White Witch and The Green Lady the one and the same?
SilverTounge85 they are both witches of the north
SilverTounge85 They are also both played by the same actress.
And old hag (Prince Caspian)
I've never seen Barbara Kellerman out of character. She is WAY over the top in the series!
@echelonslostangel there brilliant! i grew up watching them. the speicial effects make it brilliant!
God she was beautiful ☀️☀️
the girl who plays lucy in the new narnia movies looks exactly like this one, they even sound the sae :s
Yes she comes back in many forms.
After television centre, where did Sophie say they spent six weeks? I can't quite get where she means.
Manorbier
I LOVE BAD BARBARA❤😂INCREDIBLE WITCH 😅 GREETINGS FROM IRAN ❤
Barbara is certainly a good actress, because she seems lovely here, and was horrific in the programme!
Legendary movie
I love Barbara
Barbara - what a hottie!
If I remember right she was about 38 or so at the time the movie was made.
Born: December 30th, 1949
Oh my gosh Barbaras accent is so regal
She is. It was an English TV series. They're all British.
I know the new series has modern effects and a higher budget...but kids aren't stupid enough to thing the new one is better, are they?
@paulzrulz .....Um....yeah not really......how do you see that?
I like Barbra as the lady of the green Kirtle more than the white witch
How did you sleep after you saw the wolf costume 😂
People be speakin better in dem days
@paulzrulz Well actually, I'm listening to her and I do see what you mean about the voice. They do sound alot alike, though Georgie's more animated.
Prepare the sleigh withhout bells.
@Ilovecats112233
I see what you mean but look at the clothes and the hairstyle of the women though and you can tell its the 80s
@gogetyourverb

I've read only the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I think its the best book.
Uuuuuum. But if you've only read one, how do you know that?
She should have worked more! Best known for a couple of silly b horror movies.
She is absolutely gorgeous. Have you seen the episode of Hammer House of Horrors "Growing Pains"? If not, try to see it. She looks amazing
You will want to see her in The Sea Wolves, a 1980 spy movie with Gregory Peck, Roger Moore, David Niven and other familiar names.
She was in a segment of the Monster Club. A mish mash of horror comedy from the folk at Amicus. She looks utterly gorgeous and incredibly beautiful there.
Watch Narnia As I Type
i hardly understand what they say !
The teeth
They come across as snobs.
They're just proper.
I wrote to some of the Narnia cast in 2001, and got a very nice reply from Sophie Wilcox, on a BBC postcard 😊
Not really.
