Yeah, but if you look at the data they gave us 2 years ago its come a LONG way since then. They're also far ahead Apple and Amazon for Artists. Hopefully a year from now it will be even better.
I'm wondering the same thing but if I understood him correctly, it should be possible with any distributor as long as you already have submitted the music to them and have the UPC code, you should be able to request access. Which is disappointing because I thought he would reveal how to set up a new artist account before submitting any music to distributors...
Hi, Good stuff! I have an Spotify artist acct with my band. So I could set up my daughter who I just uploaded her first song using distrokid and manage her Spotify artist acct as well from there? Of course she doesn’t have an artist acct yet but need to do so and came across your video. Thanks kindly! 👍🏼
i dont understand this. when i go to the website i have to log in so i use my normal spotify email and password (for listening to music) and the account that i use for listening pops up, but how do i get the artist account? theres no search bar for me to type in my artist name the only thing i see is the account i use to listen to music
You need to schedule your releases in advance to pitch, typically you want to upload your songs at least 2 weeks prior to the release date. For DistroKid this means you need to be on the Musician Plus plan or higher.
@@AndrewSouthworth Dang so now i gatta grind $36 But it will be worth it, Also if i upgrade to Musician Plus does it start my yearly fee over or is it the same time
Now that apples updated to stop tracking ppl on Facebook, conversion ads have gone to shit. Any advice on a new way to get fans from social media to Spotify?
Thanks for the video, to be sure, I need to upload the music to Distrokid first and then get acess to Spotify Artist few days later? Does it work to set the release date 1 week in future or might it be better to have some more weeks (to get access before the song is released)
I've uploaded my first EP to TuneCore 2 weeks ago and I wanted to get access to Spotify for artists to pitch my songs to playlist curators. But apparently my Spotify page will get created on the day that the music gets released and TuneCore doesn't provide me with the Spotify URI ahead of time so I guess there's no way I'll be able to pitch those songs and get my profile set up before the music comes out
Same thing seems to be the case with CD Baby, unfortunately. One thing that comes to mind is to slate it for release much sooner in advance. Maybe the code appears for you after, say, 4 weeks.
Hey Andrew, do I have to upload the single to distrokid to be released right away in order to get access to my spotify artist page? I uploaded it but set the release date for a month after, is this ok? It's only been a day since I uploaded it, so maybe I just have to wait a bit longer

So what happens if i got the URI from distrokid but it's not appearing when i try to place it on Spotify for Artists to create a new page? Should I wait a little longer? I uploaded it 2 days ago. thanks for this vid btw! very helpful
Hey. I uploaded my song on Distrokid on the 12th of July. I can see the spotify uri code listed, but when I click on it.. it says page not found.. how long did you wait? What are the answers to that
I have an official Spotify artist page, which I got via a distributor that is not Distrokid. If I release on Distrokid instead of the other distributor, does anything change with my access to my spotify artist page? Does Distro just upload my stuff there and I don't have to do anything...I keep access to my Spotify page with no additional action from me? Or if I switch from one distributor to Distro, do I have to also switch something on my spotify account to be able to continue to access it? (I'm talking about releasing new stuff with Distro, not the old catalog; I'm not talking about bringing my old stuff to Distro.) Thanks. :)
So if distrokid doesnt provide the spotify uri, i can email spotify with the upc number and songtitle to get access to the profile? Thank you for the video!
My question is..I already have DistroKid through my old band, the first song for my new band will debut on Spotify in a week. I requested access to my new band from my old band’s profile on Spotify For Artists today. Once approved, I’ll be able to access my Spotify account from the Spotify For Artists page, right? I don’t have a way to log in to Spotify directly for my new band bc I’m going through my old band’s DistroKid account. Is there a way to create a separate direct Spotify log-in for the new band w/ the new band’s actual email? So confusing lol.
Spotify Looker Upper is more like 5 day turn around if brand new artist and album uploaded freshly uploaded. Your video was very helpful though, thank you!
I feel like since I made this video the Spotify stuff has gotten a bit slower. It used to be Spotify was the fastest DSP to push to but now they're not. Thanks!
Yeah I pay for a label plan, ever since 2018. Although by now DistroKid has paid me way more in sponsored videos and referrals than I’ve ever paid them. But that came in the last couple years.
Does the release date matter? You said 2 days for distrokid and then you email spotify. Will this work if i tell distrokid to release it in 2 weeks and then i email spotify after two days?
Yeah you’ll want to set the release day for at least 4-6 weeks in the future if you’re planning on doing this. A week or two to get access, then you’re supposed to pitch 2-4 weeks before release. If you weren’t going to wait that long it’d be better to just get access after the first song is out.
This is not working. at 2:07 where you say "request it", it takes you to another screen that explains how you cant do this until you have music on spotify.....
Hey, my first song got released today and im trying to get access to my profile but if i follow the steps you provided i dont seem to find my artist name at the select artist screen. It only shows my second one there (i had a song released on a second artist page a while ago) . Do I have to wait for some time for it to appear there?
My URI is not appearing on the looker upper page and my song is not even appearing in spotify today was my release date, i can see it on other platforms
You likely need to wait more time for your distributor to get the song to Spotify and for Spotify to digest the first song. You can also try getting your artist URL from your distro and putting that in instead of the name.
If you distribute a song they'll create an artist profile for you, and then you can get access either through your distributor or through Spotify directly. You can get access to it earlier, but you must have the song distributed first. The distribution triggers the creation of the artist profile.
@@AndrewSouthworthso that means if you upload a song today with release date in lets say 4 weeks the song will be uploaded to spotify in a few days but released after the 4 weeks? Otherwise I don't get it how I can claim the profile before a song is released.
Hey, my uri link is not working and I uploaded my song on the 12th of july. But the link for my spotify uri is not working it says page not found. Please help me
After distributing i'd give it 3-4 days, then see if the artist URL shows up when trying to request. If not give it another day or contact Spotify support. Thats if you're using DistroKid or Amuse or something, usually it takes 2-3 days to hit Spotify. If you're using CD Baby who distributes quite slowly, it could take a couple weeks. Then another day or so for Spotify to digest the track.
I‘ve read on a couple ob websites now, that you have to have at least 3 singles released in order to be able to claim the artist account. Is this still a thing? Is this only true for other distributors? I‘m a bit confused by this
You've always been able to claim it when you have just 1 song distributed. Either after the song comes out or even before the song comes out if it's already been digested and you have enough time. TH-cam used to have a 3 single rule for official artist channels but I believe thats been lifted since then.
If anyone knows how to obtain the Spotify for Artists account ahead of time via Symphonic Distribution, let me know. I set my release 6 weeks out as suggested and I am two weeks out from the release and Symphonic has not given me access to my profile through any retailer yet.
Same issues. This is annoying as f%^k! I don't understand why we have middle men like distrokid etc. Just makes everything harder so they can make their money off us
