    Heya, man. I'm a new viewer and I want to say it's a delight to watch someone with machining skills working in a bright, clean shop and NOT abusing his tools.
    After cutting aluminum, you deburred it using a sanding belt - I breathed a sigh of relief that you didn't go straight to a grinding wheel or a hand grinder with a cutoff wheel, like so many ppl do. I sharpened my wife's butcher knife on my belt sander and I've shaped styrofoam boat hulls using it - the sander, not the knife.
    Just wanted to put that out there, that someone is noticing. Dad was a Tool & Die Maker/machinist & made sure to pass on good practices.
    But I still haven't seen you use a file yet, so you're still on the fence haha!

    Pack the tubing with talcom powder or very fine sand when you bend it, that will help it from deforming.

    Not silly at all and I shave every gram I can because that’s what we deal with on scale builds instead of pounds on real boats👍When I did cars we would take door panels out and cut steel out where not needed😀Street sleepers and apply the same concepts on my rc builds!We are racing these😀

    any preference between 304 stainless or 316 stainless? The 316 has better corrosion resistance but is about 2x expensive.

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  ปีที่แล้ว

      316 would shine in really corrosive environments like salt water, but for our purposes the easier machinability and lower cost of 304 make it the way to go

    Hello I. Just Wondered Why You Didn't Put A Water Pickup Underneath The Hull Of Your Radio Controlled Boat. Still A Wonderful Boat Did A Great Job On The R/C Boat.

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know, right? Here's the thing... a water pickup on the bottom of the hull works only if the hull is in the water. This works great for a typical boat, but not at all for a hydroplane which spends a majority of it's time up out of the water!

    I'm intrigued by the water pickups. The new rudder has both water pickups cut out on the left side of the rudder? If you're oval racing you're always turning right, does that create a low pressure on the left side of the rudder? Would it make sense to cut a pick up on both sides of the rudder? Would it make it weak? Create drag?

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hang tight... I'm thinking we'll talk about all this in a video soon

    • @bigharrykochenbauls4567
      @bigharrykochenbauls4567 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Low Pressure is the inside, turning right, the rudder is forced laterally left creating pressure left side of the rudder. The right/inside becomes extremely dirty/turbulant.

    • @jamessneed6318

      @@M5PerfHydros i will try to explain it. In the video you mentioned a issue kinking the stainless rods for fuel tank lines. a popular option for water cooling a computers is Acrylic tubing but has to be heated to bend and high temperature silicone bar rod is to prevent the tubing from collapsing. It should work with the stainless and you could even heat it help the bend. If you still can't smell what I'm stepping in I could try to link a video.

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see how that might work for acrylic where the material being heated and bent is weaker than the silicone, but in the case of steel tubing the opposite is true, which would surely result in kinking, wouldn't you say?

    • @jamessneed6318
      @jamessneed6318 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@M5PerfHydros using a brake line bender is the only way I see it working.
      Another option would be to taking pie cuts to make the bend tighter and filling gaps with solder or epoxy.

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never said I couldn't do it, just that it's tricky! I use a set of brass dies that I turned on the lathe, and when I'm being properly patient I can get crazy small, perfect radius bends
