    Yet another REALLY useful and informative video Big B. Often overlooked, rudder choice is so important as you have shown.
    So yet another variable in the universe of unlimited variables that come into play with the RC boat hobby...
    Hull shape, size, profile. Motor diameter, length, kV rating, pole count. Inboard, outboard motor. Electric, gas, nitro. Conventional drive, integrated or jet drive. Drive shaft type, diameter, length and type. ESC current handling and power management. Battery type, weight, dimensions, voltage, Mah and C rating. Hardware and electronics placement for correct COG. All the variables with water cooling set up. Transmitter and receiver type. Strut/stinger position, length and angle. Trim tab size, position and angle. Turn fin shape, size, position and angle. Prop type (number of blades and material) diameter, pitch, rake and blade profile. And of course rudder shape, size and angle.
    Geesh! I could go on but I'll quit 'jackin mah jaws'!
    No wonder this hobby is so unique and interesting. With all these variables is it any wonder that we keep on tinkering, testing and tuning?
    Thanks for sharing the knowledge brother. Awesome stuff 👏 👌

    Again.. great info, and testing my friend!! It is a huge part of the hobby to try things, and see what happens!! Great info for everyone!! I always tell people that are interested in RC.. a “small” adjustment is actually really big as the model is scaled down from the full size! Just keep the scale in prospective, and make “small” changes, and have fun because that’s what makes this hobby some awesome!! FUN SON!!! 👍🏼👍🏼

    I've watched your knowledge and understanding of RC boating grow over the past year or so, and I really enjoy the enthusiasm you have in sharing what you have learned with your viewers. Videos like this and the prop testing ones really help people out; whether it's because it's impossible to buy all the necessary parts, or being close enough to a decent pond that semi-daily testing is possible, your videos solve a lot of their problems. Sometimes, they make me spit my coffee out......

    Love these test and tune videos. Great timing too, I just recently modified my stock Veles rudder. I believe that I heard advice here on your channel about modifying rudder to optimize handling. I removed approx 1/2" of the length from the bottom. Then I reshaped the bottom of the rudder tapering the bottom edges and thinned out the thickness of whole rudder. Also I sharpened the leading edge and chamfered the trailing edge. So far so good. My low speed turning has improved greatly with response being way more predictable. As always thanks for the info bro. Rc boatgang

    Always a great video. Thank you for the great info. Question which one would you prefer the Veles or the ul-19?

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What's your skill level regarding rc boats? The ul-19 is an awesome boat one of my favorites but it definitely needs some work to be a solid oval boat. (Cooling, turn fin & upgraded esc) The veles is a little more beginner friendly and really only need a second cooling line & servo to make it a solid boat.

    Good video brother. Very informative.
    I don’t own one but a buddy does and I’m very aware of how the boat rolls in the corner. Now I do wonder if it’s how the sponson is shaped and causing the outside edge of the sponson to catch the water and tip it over. Maybe adding Dihedral to the sponson may help. I own a different catamaran and the sponson has a lot of dehydral in the sponson ride pad and when she turns the boat will actually lean some.
    A thought that crossed my mind for a experiment on the veles.

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you say dihedral are you talking about adding angle, dead rise angle to the sponsons? Or more non-trip to the outsides of the sponson? Not sure ? Sorry I'm not exactly sure what dihedral is, lol.

    • @mad_lizard
      @mad_lizard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IRONCLADRC yes angle/ dead rise on the ride pad. Example this cat I have. 1 3/16 wide ride pad and the outer edge rises up 1/8. +/- 5 degrees.
      Just a thought on my end as to blue printing the hull. Dead rise is common to sponson designs specially in hydroplanes. Always experimenting.

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mad_lizard Roger that, I figured that's what you were talking about. I agree I think that would help tremendously. I alot of work the pull off but it's definitely possible, I've gotta do some finish work to my sponsons and I will definitely keep that in mind.. thanks brother.

    Hello brother hope all is well I have question for you! I have sonic wake v2 and the boat turns one direction great nearly on a dime ( I believe it’s turn left really good) but it hardly turns the other direction at all! I realize you need to have some momentum or speed when turning however when saying that the boat turns the one direction really well with or without speed but won’t turn the other direction with or without speed, do you have any suggestions

  • @roadstar499
    @roadstar499 ปีที่แล้ว

    Correct me if i am wrong when i set up CG on my boat i divide boat in 3 sections... Like if i have a 30 inch boat my cg is approx 20''' from bow going back... I also try to keep center of gravity as low as possible and when my boat sits in water i do my best so it does not lean to one side... but when i think about it if you are racing like you do its good to have more weight on left side of boat anyway....

    Big B, I know you usually leave the epoxy bare after blueprinting your hulls, would it help to use something like 2k clear coat and sand with 400/600 grit for best results and or even use some of the graphite spray?

    • @IRONCLADRC
      @IRONCLADRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Epoxy/graphit works the best I've been testing different finishes on different boats to see what works best for me. I've used clear coats, epoxy/graphite, epoxy with pigments, epox paints, primers for my final finishing in the past, as long as it's hard & sandable I don't see why not. I used clear acrylic as a top coat for the blueprint on my blackjack 42 after I airbrushed a design, it sands good dries fast but doesn't build/fill very good. If you use a clear the boat basically needs to be finished to its final shape because clears tend to lay down flat.

    • @SnapperHeadUnlimited
      @SnapperHeadUnlimited 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IRONCLADRC in this instance I’ll be blue printing the bottom of a Geico Hull and a Veles 29” hull. Do you think sanding them to where they are true and then put the graphite spray right on? Do you think I should sand them true and then add my paint, clear coat with 2k clear and then graphite spray the sponsons?

    Just put this boat on the water for the first-time last weekend and it made it about 50 feet and the flex cable slipped in the collet and I know it was tight before launching, brought it in and tightened it again and the same thing so I inspected the collet, and the collet nut was stripped out. The collet looks just fine but the taper in the nut is gone so it won't tighten down on the flex-cable the metal is so soft that the stainless-steel collet shaved the taper out of the nut and didn't hurt the collet at all. I'm disappointed with pro boat on the first run on my new Veles 29. got a new collet coming from Offshore marine should be here tomorrow we will give it another go this weekend

    • @IRONCLADRC

    • @stevestonacek7128
      @stevestonacek7128 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IRONCLADRC After further inspection I found that the collet nut was made from soft mild Chinese Steel the collet was ok and made of stainless steel the nut on the other hand either didn't get hardened or was made from the wrong material. The OSE coupler is working fine. I did go over the whole boat before taking to the lake. I think that even experienced guys would not catch this defect right out of the gate.

      A shorter rudder may be the ticket you ca. Actuallyshorten the stock rudderand get a better ride ( i may do that here shortly) , if you have extra rudders laying around I'd try a couple different rudders to see what you like. It's kinda fun Testing and watching for the differences between each... as for the blue print It's alot of work, alot of work! if done incorrectly it would ruin the ride of the boat. Blueprinting a boat is basically taking out any imperfections, dips, hooks, that may be in the ride surfce.. most boats Don't need to be Blueprinted there is that rare occasion that Blueprinting a hull will improve the ride. Hope this helps
