I started out the same way. Used tools, cheap tools, anything I could get my hands on to start working. Then I upgraded as I made more money. The truck is important. Ive landed small jobs just sitting in the parking lot and being approached by someone needing a welder, and when I have very little clients I took those small jobs because one of them may lead to a bigger job. Now I only have big clients that keep me fat and happy.

I have a Miller multimatic 215, I’m currently doing the car thing. But I’m literally just giving this a go, got my first gig tomorrow on a dirt modified racecar. Been welding 11 years I’ve been awful in the past with financials but I’m 27 and I gotta get something figured out. Not sure how to price anything yet ha, but the guy took the price after showing my work so if word of mouth works as well as it does with our carpentry business I think I’ll be fine! Just gotta work on funding for a truck

I’ve been welding since I was in high school (93). Most of my construction career I’ve been a certified fracture critical welder until I moved in to management about 10 years ago. I do have a welding side hustle just to support my bow hunting habits. I have a portable welder and I just bought the Vulcan 220 and it is a very good welder no regrets. I also have a 2001 f350 with the 7.3 I bought new. It is my go to truck. I prefer driving it over my good truck. I would definitely say you have good equipment and are headed in the right direction. Keep your head up and you will do fine 👍

Good video, man. Real straight toward for those wanting to make that leap. Welder/generator, cutting, measuring, level, square, etc. good stuff.
I will say as long as the payload is there a gasser Ford 6.2 (2011-2016) F250 or Chevy 6.0 (2011-2019) 2500HD may have lower up front and long term costs than a diesel for a lot of folks, especially us up here in the cold north or those not towing a camper behind their rig along with all those tools.
