- This is as quick as I could run through all my tools for you guys just to give you an idea of some things you need. I honestly could use some more tools like a come-a-long or two and a propane bottle with a weed burner for heating up steel for procedure welds as a few examples. Enjoy!

Such a great video and super insightful its funny I came to this channel a year ago or maybe longer before I knew ANYTHING about welding and I wouldn't be surprised if half the tools and lingo / what their uses are for would've gone right over my head lmao, time sure flies.

I’m a heavy equipment mechanic by trade and don’t do a ton of welding but I always carry drinking water bottles with me , not just to quench my thirst but if I’m doing some welding especially on equipment I always grab a few bottles poke a hole in the top just in case I get a flare up or thirsty lol! Very nice set up thanks for sharing 👍
You can never go wrong with water bottles!
Get you some broken scrap heavy hydraulic lines and practice brazing holes up with silicon bronze on TIG. Easy money on big rigs; they'll be happy to toss money your way instead of needing ten extra gallons of hydraulic oil every job, and you'll get more word-of mouth add on work, too. Not really for a whole job in itself, but it's good to have small things to tack on to the job scope if something you're working on needs it. Saves the customers time, too, since it makes for fewer service calls.
Also, look at an electric file; they're great for getting in weird corners, tight spaces, & odd angles for knocking off edges and smoothing outside corners really quick. Especially since you don't have onboard air for die grinders yet.
Oh, and an Estwing chipping hammer would take the place of that cold chisel. They're great.
All good suggestions, I’ll look into them as I have the free cash to do so. I’ve always used an electric powered die grinder though on any jobs I worked before

The electric file can hit inside corners on the flats though, instead of rounding or gouging them like a die grinder does. Just a thought.

Got a couple tool suggestions :) dewalt dw888 electric die grinder with a cheap set of carbide burrs for grinding in tight areas. It’s a lot better than reaming a hole with a sketchy drill bit lol. Also a Milwaukee 8inch metal cutting circular saw. You can make straight cuts on some pretty thick steel and the blade will stall rather than bind and kick back. Hell you could cut I beams in half with that thing and cut through 1” plate if you took enough cuts. :)

A small Tap and die set might come in handy too, the odd time. They don't take up much room.
I use to have one somewhere, I hope I didn’t lose it in my move cause that would certainly be great to throw on the truck
The small ones don't take up much room, but a bigger one is more likely to have the size you need when it comes up on a job.

I'm planning on taking my everlast welder mobile for some small welding repairs and fab work. You've got some really good advice.
You need a drill lever, called an “old man” it uses a piece of chain to make a quick portable drill press with a hand drill. It’s cut out to fit the back of the drill and the tip hooks it the chain. The handle multiplies your forward pressure.

Nice its better to have it and don't need it than to need it and don't have it with all you got on your truck hope you got a secure place to park at night in L.A. every morning you wake up you hope no one mess with you rig if you can't park off the street

I love your set up bud it’s about the same as mine I have the same ranger nice machine for wire feeder I have an LN25 though I went with LN25 for the bigger spools of wire I have an LN7 for in house stuff so all my wires are the like 35lbs spools that’s why I went with the LN25 so I can run the same stuff between the two

I would really like to see a review of that suitcase feeder. There are hardly any reviews of that particular one on TH-cam. I would like to see what types of wire you run in it and what type of work you do with it as well! Great video.
Hopefully I’ll be getting videos up soon of some live action of me working on projects I get. Saving up for the camera to do it. I honestly don’t use it all that much though and haven’t used any other suitcase other than an LN-25 one other time so I don’t feel I have enough experience with them to give a review on one.

I’ve got .045 hard wire and .035 flux core, used the flux core for a project a month back but other than that everything I weld I usually use stick

Most of it was in the cab of the truck in the back seat. Some guys like doing it that way and some like keeping the back seat clean.

Try some Lenox carbide cutting wheels. They are pricey but they replace about 75-100 normal 1/8” cutting discs. The diablo ones don’t work nearly as well

I bought a old F350 IDI with a nice flatbed a long time ago now it worked for me until I got a 6.blow then it sat around and I started loading it with tools and boxes then the Powerjoke blew up so I had to make the old IDI my daily driver now it's loaded with tools to fix my own equipment
Yea mines held up so far but I’ll be getting a dodge next go around

Love your rig, love your attitude, and love the Warren Buffet quote on your other vid. 2 questions now, have you tried running al. through your Activ8 ( I got the Miller 8vs cuz it was cheaper.....alot cheaper), and where'd you get the welding blanket? Mine are heavy fiberglass that I hate dragging around cuz a, they're heavy; and b, they're old and fraying. And fiberglass makes me itch.... Best of luck to ya bud, you're heading the right direction.

A small compressor with tank is good too. Perhaps you have one and I missed it.
Nope I don’t have one, would like one eventually for Arc gouging but have gotten away with not having it so far.
Having a welder-generator, it's usually better to just buy electric tools. Electric die grinders are off most people's radar, but they're surprisingly useful.
I actually been looking for one of older vintage electric ones, but someone has an adapter to allow you to use angle grinder with die grinder bits, plan to get one of those soon, as for air compressor, I have one I can carry if needed, it was for servicing 18 wheelers, made by Goodall, like 23cfm, 1000 cranking amps, plus a generator, but not something I want to leave on truck as its quite heavy.

around job site. Laydown of electode a pain. Using a modern small
inverter stick welder. Q) anywhere in USA / your company sell a stick
electrode holder with ON OFF switch. ? Have never seem one. Only one on
www is one for 12 v vehicle welders it seems. Seems a no brainer to have
the option? any info appreciated. Has to deal with wide range amps no

an electric chop saw is handy and so is a gas powered demolition saw but they cost a few bucks
carrying a cheap weed sprayer with water in it can stop a fire before it gets out of hand.

@@Welderbeast yep, just some things that i learned were usefull over the years and propane will save you money for your torches. i get 5 K size oxygen tanks for one 20 pound BBQ tank of propane. how much is a big tank of acetylene now? when i quit using it a tank was $50 and it lasted for 1 K cylinder.

Does argon not become poisonous when tilted like that? I mean I guess not since you obviously know more than me I'm fairly new to welding, but I feel like I heard a certain gas can become poisonous if left on its side or somethin
@@daledobeck872 All gases could be considered poisonous if they deplete or increase your oxygen from 19%-21% of the air you breath no matter how they are stored. The only gas you shouldn't store on its side is Acetylene because the gas is volatile so to make it safer for transportation the gas is is dissolved in liquid acetone. If stored on its side the liquid will come out with the gas causing your flame to be volatile and you are slowly leaking away the substance that is keeping your gas stored safely in its container. Most other gases you purchase are just compressed gases and can be stored on their side safely.
Random question ive never thought of... how do you find the long hoses with purging? Do you waste a lot of gas? do you still charge for it, or is it something you havent thought of?
Honestly the hose came with the machine and I haven’t used it much at all. All my work had been with stick. The amount of gas that would be wasted is calculated in my rate for consumables when needing to purge. I sat down and spend a whole day factoring all the consumables and factors for certain jobs including grinding discs and maintenance/replacement costs for the equipment I use. That’s how I arrived at my hourly rate. I would imagine you can get the hose at any local weld supply store or online even
What size wire are you using for you wire feeder? A 250 is pretty small and won't push any good sized wire. Not knocking at just want to know what size it will push. Thanks!

I tell ya though I got the same welder the ranger I have a v300 pro invertec and I plug it in to the 220 on the ranger and I can push 1/16 flux core on the invertec I run my plasma cutter off it to the plasma can cut a little above 1” steel if I have to go a good distance I have a 100’ 220 extension cord works great for air for the plasma I have a two stage engine drive compressor ingersol real nice for a lot of cutting

You just hook it up to your machine and put your GXT on one of the wire feed settings is all I do

KHBuilds just the connector that comes off the activ8 has to hook to your leads so if those are the same connections then your good. If not you will need an adapter of sorts
Can you give us a demonstration of a typical work project you work on? I'm thinking about starting my own welding business as well.
Most my work is on industrial repair and renovation at mills here in the state

I can tell you that it’s worked pretty good for me so far, it’s not the highest quality for sure but it does the job. I’m not really planning on doing product reviews in my videos right now, sorry to disappoint
If you get it, buy the warranty. If at any point in that year or two it fails, get a new one, and pay for the warranty on that one, too.
They work. Not as robust as the Milwaukee, but does the job.
A good rule of thumb for you;
If you break a tool three times in use, either change how you're using it (usually it's being too hard on a tool or using the wrong tool for the job), or buy a better one. If you're using it for work and you break three of them, return the last one and buy the Milwaukee.

A better rule for work is twice, but with this thing only being $100, it should be pretty easy to make your money back. If it isn't, you're using more money for tools than you can afford.
I been curious on this band saw, as I "had" a Porter Cable version, I had bought used at a pawn shop quite a few years back & it has done me good until recently, this past fall I took time to clean it up & lubricate, I now nothing I can do to keep the blade on it, it will stay on without issue until it hits metal, & then blade pops off, GRRRR! be searching for a good name brand, but that one from HF with that price does have my attention, but still waiting to see if I can find a Milwaukee version.

It works pretty well for me, you get what you pay far so I’m sure there are better ones but it does the job

No pipe bevelers?
No so far all the pipe I’ve done is small pipe that I can easily cut with my porta-band and just hand bevel with a grinder.
Maybe a couple of wedges in the bucket to get a gap or slightly help level up.
Danny Harvey I’ve got this sweet little spacing tool that fits in my shirt pocket I use if I ever need a tool but I could certainly use some more. Getting there, it all costs money and bills still got to be paid so it’s a balancing act of spending money wisely

No that’s acetylene because it’s dissolved in acetone to keep it stable and on its side the liquid could leech out
Looks great! How well do you like the Ranger 250?
It’s worked great for me so far, I’ll buy a new machine the day this one dies or can’t keep up with what I need it to do. It’s kept up pretty well so far and that included a couple 13 hour days running all day at around 150 amps. If I get on a gig that needs me to burn some 3/16 and at 200-220 amps all day I’m curious to see how this machine can handle it.

What gauge leads do you use for your stinger/ground for that length?
00 for 250 foot loop(stinger and ground) and then I use gauge 1 for a 15’ stinger whip just cause it’s lighter

I haven’t carried any certs since I started my business, it all depends on the type of work you get into doing

I have million dollar general liability insurance that is specific for the type of work I do and places I operate at. It’s a pretty specific thing you’ll want to go over with your insurance agent in detail

I'm curious if you'd be able to do a few jobsite videos, I went to school to become a millwright and unfortunately due to political changes at the time, the lumbermill nearby is running at about 30% capacity. I have since moved but am doing structural work. I'm looking into going mobile someday and want to see if its something that is still doable. Any advice on obtaining certifications without using a school program or employer?
I specifically don’t show job site videos for my own reasons but you can get certifications by taking advantage passing a weld test at any AWS certified testing facility

Yes I did, but mostly because I moved to a new state and there weren’t any UA jobs close to my house and I wanted to stay home. The UA did me really good while I was in Alaska
@@Welderbeast look I'm not gonna put anything out there, but can't doing work like this as a non signatory contractor or outside of a union contract put you in some hot water for your pension (whatever you have vested?) I don't know if youtube revenue will make up for that if someone does decide to go after you.
Union and non-union mostly applies to being an employee. As an union member I cannot work for non-union companies as an employee but I am my own business. I do work for any client and work for myself. My money comes from my business, I make pennies from TH-cam. Thank you for the concern and I hope that helped explain how I see it;)
