In my experience, it was mostly salt that helped with the whole hunger thing. Your body will naturally make you crave salty foods if you're low in sodium.
Something cheap I found to help curb that was actually Beer Salt. It's usually used to coat the edges of Beer glasses, but a sprinkle on your hand will quickly fill a salt fix. Salt can be a MUCH bigger issue than a small pill can fix.
They've got various flavors and it's effectively zero calorie. My Favorite is Lime, though I dabble with Lemon if I'm getting tired of the Lime.
Basically, get one of those and have some anytime you get hungry. If you've had too much salt, you'll naturally become disgusted by the salty taste. If not, you've still not maxed out what your body is fine with. It's practically impossible to force yourself to overeat straight salt and upwards of 6000mg of salt has been shown to be just fine for your kidneys so long as you're not doing that much EVERY day.
As for the artificial sweeteners, What ones are liable to hurt your fast are actually based on insulin response. Aspartame and Acesulfame Potassium (Those are in things like Zero sugar Dr Pepper and most Generic Diet Soda) have 0 effect on your glycemic index, so no insulin response.
So, most diet sodas won't really hurt your fast and can help curb hunger. Sucralose WILL screw you up tho.

Thanks for this comment--lots of good info in here! I've been doing a pinch of sea salt in water for the longest time to help with occasional headaches during fasting. Sometimes it helps with hunger also, but not nearly as well as it does for headaches!

@@JustinDorff The WHO recommends ~5g a day just to not suffer from a sodium deficiency.
Average that an adult male needs is a good 20-30% more than that to be healthy last I remember, so while you might be getting SOME salt...
Fasts are notorious for draining your electrolytes... so that requirement would like be higher for you.
I'd look into working some more salt in.
You're likely drinking more, losing more electrolytes, and not topping them up enough.
If you're hungry and all you can think about is salty foods... that's a definite sign.
And besides, knocking back a bit of extra salt on your fast won't hurt anything.

    Love fasting.
After detoxing from a month long of pigging out , fasting is very hard in the beginning and the cravings are unbearable.
    My solution:
.. eh none really. I just push through the hunger lol

Thanks for this...too many 'sales-people' on YT so it's hard to trust what they say. Watched one of your other videos the other day and it helped. I'm working my way up to a 48hr fast...started with some 18s, then a 24 yesterday. Twice I felt a headache coming on so I added some salt to my water like you suggested. That turned the headaches right around, so thanks.

This is great, I love hearing this kind of stuff! Glad the salt worked well for you (that has always been the best remedy for a headache for me too)...please keep me posted n how it's going with you--you'll be at a 48-hour fast in no time!

LMNT has the plain recipe on their site in the FAQ section.
    1/2 tsp salt (1000g sodium)
    500g potassium citrate (200g potassium)
1/4 tsp magnesium malate (60g magnesium)
    The above equals one package.
Personally, I don’t add the magnesium as I suffer with intestinal distress, but I do take it at bedtime.

Electrolytes aren't magic pills, they will not help with hunger at all, the hunger hormone release goes down with time and has nothing to do with electrolytes. Electrolytes are neurotransmitters, so they help you stay focused and hydrated, so you won't be dizzy or light headed or have headache.
A lot of fasting symptoms depend on how good or bad you treated your body before starting the fast, how nutritious or lacking nutrition was your diet and lifestyle before the fast, how long are you fasting and a lot of other factors. So while electrolytes make fasting danger free, you body will still go through detox symptoms, I mean that's the whole point of fasting anyway.
