I would argue the opposite. He is excellent and very talented, but you can't say that as a fact about those people. There are a few (very few, mind you) pitch errors and minor losses of control in the song, and for some whose ears are extremely attuned to hearing pitch errors, it stands out when a small inaccuracy that the general public easily misses is heard. To those pitch experts, it makes their ears bleed to hear such inaccuracies, however few there may be. Also, some people are just incredibly biased towards hearing it exactly as EW&F would sing it.
