I am a 70 yr old woman who has just started sewing and you young lady are the greatest teacher I have watch on utube. You make it so easy to understand. I am impressed. I loved your video and am looking forward to your newer ones. thank you.....
Loved the video! You moved fast which is appreciated. So many videos we have to listen to what day it is, what was eaten for breakfast blah blah. You moved it right along. Thanks, subscribing!
Great video! Thank you, I was having trouble finding leather that I liked for my projects and this method is just what I needed. Nice paced and great instruction.
Spot-on as usual. I didn't like thedirections on my pattern, so turned to The Crafty Gemini and was not disappointed! This worked great for me! Such a clear tutorial that can be easily followed by sewers of all skill levels! I used a fusible foam stabilizer so did not need to use glue. Thanks for continuing your wonderful tutorials, Vanessa!
Thanks for explaining the 8th on the ruler. I come from using metric system and have struggled with. Your explanation made a lot of sense. Just love the way you explain things so easy.I am from sunny Cape Town South Africa.
Hi from New Zealand ... This video is great, straight to the point and easy to follow. You're great to listen to and you make me smile while watching , you have such a bubbly personally. Thanks I learned a lot from you :-)
Thanks Vanessa. I make lots of bags, and I definitely like your way of making the straps more than most directions. I LOVE sewing with the foam stabilizer. Use it often.
Love all your videos. Anytime I want to try a new sewing project and I’m not sure how to tackle it, I know I can watch one of your videos and I can sew with confidence (and spend less time ripping seams). 😊
WOW🔥🔥🔥🔥 I was stuck making a suede backpack as the straps came out awful so I was in two minds about buying the black straps. You’ve shown how to make straps that are affordable and also look fantastic💕 You’ve got a new subscriber💕 Thank You SO Much 🤗
Loved what you did with the foam stabilizer! Been looking for something to give my bag straps a little more "umph" and not be so wimpy & thin. Thank you Vanessa! Good job! Another great tutorial! Lmao @ the bloopers!
Your are very creative and skilled at your craft. I just got a sewing machine and I can't wait till I get better at it so I can do more advanced projects.... Thank you so much...
Mary Kowalski I'm glad you have enjoyed learning with Vanessa.. I hope that my kids enjoy our learning process because she has a lot of great ideas that they are going to love working on. Vanessa really breaks it down well so we should be able to follow along. I'm glad I came across her channel. Thank You. 😊😊😊😊
Oh boy I love how you speak plainly and get to the point, no fluffing around. Love your idea but not sure where I would get the foam. Your bag looks awesome too. Great job!! Will definitely check out some more of your videos :)
Loved the tutorial, my first thought "man she speaks fast!" I also loved the bloopers at the end! hahaha You are very good at explaining even the smallest detail e.g. 7/8th of an inch which is the first time I've ever seen done. I'm sure many of your viewers like that. The one thing I didn't see (big shock cause you're so good) was what the settings on your machine should be if you don't have a computerized machine. In other words, what is the stitch length and the tension when you sew the foam onto the fabric. I look forward to seeing more of your videos! Thanks so much
Hi, thank you for this video. I've been stuck on my project until I saw this. What a great technique for making straps. I can't use the foam that you do (it's unavailable where I live) but I'll use something else instead to make it work.
Thank you so much the tip about the foam stabiliser very much appreciated as is your fabulous tutorials, I am looking to make a bag to take along to my sewing classes as I need to get myself organised. As a beginner I would very much appreciate if you would point me in the right direction? Warmest regards Caro
There is but it's not a free tutorial. It's one of the video lessons in the paid online course for the backpack pattern: craftygemini.com/shop/allie-mini-backpack-online-course-pdf-pattern/
love your videos - so clear and easy to follow - which is quite rare. one little question, please: how long would you make straps for a kids backpack, say 4 to 6 years old, any ballpark figure? I am making bags for my grandsons. it's fun but they are not with me to measure.
Wow this is cool! Can you tell me how long these straps will last? Because I was using webbing & covering them with fabric...I think doing the straps your way could save me money & time!
Thanks Vanessa for another great tutorial. I'm so glad I didn't throw my foam scraps away. Looking forward to 2017 Bag of the month and later on....the wallets. Your bloopers are funny. I wold probably speak far worse than you when it comes to speaking in front of a camera. :) See, that last sentence wasn't good grammar. :)
Thanks for the great tutorial, very well done, you are very inspiring and I love that you are so economic :).... could you give some links to the great tools you are using (mat, rotary cutter...It looks amazing!!)
Hello, I own a quilted duffle bag and the straps are extremely long. Any tips on making a non-adjustable strap, adjustable? I do not want to cut the straps off unless I absolutely have to.
Hi Vanessa. If I can't find any foam stabilizer in the stores of my small island. Could I improvise with regular foam sheets from the craft store?? Thanks
The foam sheets you get at a craft store are not the same type or thickness so I’m not sure if it will work for this. Maybe try headliner fabric. That is at least a large continuous piece but a lot thinner than the foam stabilizer I use.

@@TheCraftyGemini Thank you so much for replying to my comment. I'm gonna take a look if I can find some headliner fabric. Have a nice day
wow, thanks for this. I had never thought of using glue to keep all that in place for sewing.
Thank you!
What foam is that you are using? Who makes it?
