- Recorded at Christiansborg Ridebane in July 1987, Sco and his band play So You Say from the Blue Matter album. This is a higher quality version of a video I uploaded a couple of years ago, and should sound better and look OK at 480p.
Blue Matter and Still Warm from the same concert are also in my videos.
Been a while since I've checked this performance. It's one for the ages. When the band drops out and Sco & Dennis play by themselves for almost 3 minutes, it's basically McLaughlin/Cobham, Coltrane/Elvin level. Top shelf, man. Beautiful, beautiful...
Dieses Stück ist eine wahre Energiebombe. Schenkt mir eine Menge Lebenslust und Freude; das Blut im Herz und in den Adern beginnt zu kochen wenn man sich's anhört. Und das immer wieder.
Dennis Chambers is the ultimate groove monster on drums :-D
Sco and gang brings tears to my eyes with their beautiful playing.
Dennis' pocket is unbeliavably deep!
This should have a billion views
Beautiful
Dennis Chambers will 4ever be my favorite drummer!! Tight as a metronome, every swing and contact.
I adore this record sooo much! 'Uncle John' seemd to be on the top of his carreer at that time. Great music, great sound!
That was perfection
This Is strong stuff. Period.
I remember recording this from tv. One of the best things I ever had. Watched it constantly.
Gary Grainger - just HOW funky can you get...love it; Dennis Chambers - machine gun hands AND feet WITH feel....absolutely fantastic! THANK YOU for posting!
great upload. this is around the time i first saw sco (great american music hall in s.f.). such a killer lineup. i thought dennis chambers was going to start gnawing on the kit, like the tasmanian devil. unreal. saw that lineup a couple times, then the next time i saw sco was with a new drummer, and i was kind of bummed, but when bill stewart (so young at the time) started playing, my brain melted. equally amazing on the skins, in an entirely different way. sco always surrounds with talent.
Great concert! Probably the best years for John Scofield! Thanks so much for sharing!
Slow Sco is right on time. Nice Jam.
Incredible ensemble playing and what a guitar solo! Saw this on late night TV back in the day. Thank you SO MUCH for posting it!
Although Scofields albums are great he always plays way better live. Total improvisation.
so cool!
Sco cool ;)
Fantastic line-up. I remember seeing them when I was a little boy. Sooo impressive. Thanks for the upload!
Thanks for born , Sco !
Interplay between schofield & big bad Dennis Chambers in the middle section RIDICULOUS. How much feel, timing, funk, Cuban/calypso genius do you want??? Chambers feel & speed/ clarity, throw your books & metronomes away, they are not required here.
Listen to the chordal work from 6:25
you want to be a musician? Watch this, thirty years ago, so much talent it's fucking hilarious, you love music & emotion & want to feel great about it as a listener or a player, this is for you and everyone else. Enjoy!!
I agree it’s hilarious
this bassist is a monster he is always in the pocket
One of the best modern jazz guitarists. I always loved his tone and phrasing.
Nice One.I saw the same band in Aberdeen a couple of months later-it was the first time I heard Dennis Chambers live-got a quick chat with him at the end too!! Thanks for posting
All the best :-)
Mi piace il fraseggio di John è elegante e pieno di groove! La parte di solo con Chambers è un capolavoro!

#jazzrock Hahahha, no problem. You like past, but I love THIS.

yes but his sound had been modified today. I prefer his past sound like in this vid. my favorite too, with hiram.
I wish Gary would go back to the Stingray Bass. No sound like it.
Dennis Chambers è pazzesco inumano !!
Who is that bass player?
The bassist is Gary Grainger.
Is the whole of this gig available? Saw this on TV 20 odd years ago but only 3 tracks were shown.
