    His distinctive, slightly strained sound singles him out, and his versatile playing combines influences from post-bop, funk and R&B: American guitarist John Scofield is one of the icons of jazz. For decades, the US-American has performed worldwide in a great variety of formations - but almost never alone. Scofield has now recorded a solo programme exclusively for his Elbphilharmonie Session.
    »I have played with bands my whole life. That was the reason I started to play the guitar. Solo guitar is really hard, you have to go through all kinds of leaps and bounds and technical stuff. But then they invented a sampler pedal, with which I can make little accompaniments on the fly. That has allowed me to do a whole concert - being able to play with myself.«

    Waited my whole life to hear Scofield play on the neck pickup. Still sounds the same as his bridge pickup.

    I must have seen Sco 3 or 4 times growing up. In an era where guitarists are playing pyrotechnics, polyrhythms and heavy conceptual ideas, John is playing the most laid back, blues-based personal language and it still sounds so fresh and relevant.

    • @palitolitola
      @palitolitola ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree !!!! At that time I used to listen to Pat Metheny, Mike Stern and Scofield. From Pat we had the melodic jazz phrasing and amazing musical structure. ( let’s not forget the standard albums which are incredible ), Mike Stern had this rock feeling that all of us needed in a jazz guitar player. Also I believe he did one of the great compositions in terms of ballads ( like “before you go” which has amazing chord progressions on it) and Scofield that was a plug and play guitar player with awesome weird grooves and a totally different approach on his melodic lines. It was hard to “copy” him. He is unique!!! A go go is my favorite album :-)))

    I have no words to describe how John's playing makes me feel. His phrasing and style, his unique and exquisite voice is the stuff dreams are made of for many music lovers, connoisseurs or simple aficionados. The humility of a true giant. Kudos for whoever responsable of this little gem of a concert. The place, the production, the sound, being a huge hall, the sensation of intimacy is overwhelming, you feel like John is playing just for you in your living room....Just fantastic. thanks a million for doing this.
