I am also a fan of the less fluffy cattleyas. Hybrids too, i like but i think the waxy kind of thinner petals and sepals are much more beautiful than those they seem to judge highly for their more round and dramatic blooms. I really like it when its a more star shaped bloom. And with the bloom soesking in uniqueness, which is Beautiful,!! Great video.
Ive always found that when I raise the more finnicky bifoliates from a small seedling that my success rate and the quality of growth is high. Divisions, even with the best conditons take a while to gain momentum and you end up having to size up pots and have ugly growths before a bloom. Easy unifoliates and primary hybrids are easier to go from divisions in my conditions.
Yet another great video from you again, Stephen. I barely remember seeing any phals with you but glad to know that you have some species. Species phals are incredible! So are catts but sadly very difficult to get some here. Very good information here 👍🏻👏🏻
@@SVKLOrchids That would be great 👍🏻 I am absolutely crazy about Phal schilleriana and stuartiana. Besides those, equestris, amabilis, deliciosa, lindenii, etc. are big favourites. I have given up Phal hybrids but Phal species are just incredible. Look forward to see your blooms soon. With proper care, phals recover and bloom pretty soon
I live in a temperate zone in Australia & find bifoliates struggle in our winters. They have to be kept in warm temperatures or they go dormant & can rot. When our temps get down to 12degC at night I bring mine inside every afternoon then take them outside in the morning when the temperature rises. They go dormant but wake up in spring.
My addiction is unifoliate, labiate Cattleyas. But there often isn't much reason or logic for what draws my eye. I still don't understand my general aversion to semi-albas, unless it's a purpurata and then it has to be a semi-alba. We all find beauty in different places. Fred's presentation to our orchid group was great. I'm keeping an eye on SVO's site for the catasetum to be added.
Oh wow great talk again. But in my opinion schilleriana is so rambling! Its good for a mount but so hard to keep potted when its bloom size! 😂 I got rid of mine for that reason. 😂 if he grows phalaenopsis cattleya will fit in nicely! 😊 hope to see how it goes.
@@SVKLOrchids They do bloom great! Mine had 3 spikes with 3 blooms each, then I found it a new home! 🤣 but I did get a schilleriana alba to replace it! 🤣
That was a fun video! Many of my plants are from Schwerter and I really like them. I have made not so great experiences with orchids&more. I would highly recommend Lucke vor Cattleyas. They also just dropped their Brazil import with many amethystoglossas, including coerulea.
@@SVKLOrchids they are usually very young plants. But I really like Lucke. Their selection for imports always has some interesting plants. I was able to meet the owner and they’re all really nice!

I don’t know how long it’s gonna take to blooming size though… but phew! It’s an expensive seedlings. A few available but I don’t know anyone willing to pay that much for just a seedling…
Ya, they'll be expensive for a few years at least! They were completely unavailable only a few years ago. Hopefully yours will bloom as a true coerulea! I think I have one or two in my collection as well. Maybe we can trade pollen!
My one piece of advice, if you are looking for a specific bloom, buy a mericlone or one that is in flower. As you know, a seed grown plant, even from awarded, line-bred parents can turn out to be a dog. You might get something amazing, but that is never a guarantee.
Dimitri; I am unsure if "Krull-Smith" ships internationally.... but they _Always have a NICE selection of Cattley schilleriana's _MOUNTED ! Frank or Julien might be able to help :)

my 2 best plants are Catt gaskelliana var coerulea'Expo Valencia',and Catt quadricolor x self Found both in sheath on eBay gaskelliana is bullet proof That one is in bud and sheath 4 sheaths in a 6"pot
Schwerter and OM basically lie (sorry it is what it is) about plant sizes. Most of those in the video will be 3-5 years till blooming size at best (for 13 euro no surprise though). Loddigesii alba is B size wich should be ready to bloom. But I would check Lucke website instead. They have a lot of BS cattleyas and Brazilian import.
