Hey guys, forgot to mention prices depend on the maturity and size of the orchid! Seedlings will always be more affordable, but generally speaking if they are not young plants, orchids are offered for sale as soon as they can bloom. On very very rare occasions you'll get a big specimen sized orchid for standard prices!
I can vouch for Hausermann Orchids! They have AMAZING prices and healthy plants every time. I would also recommend Brookside Orchids for those in the US. Thanks for the recommendations Danny 🌱
Hausermann just got my order last week for a bellina among others, a decision based on Dani’s info and photo and on availability at Hausermann. I bet they sell out of both kinds of bellini by two days from now since their url is linked here. I’m glad for them, at least 4 generations of Hausermanns making orchid hybrids in that steam system heated old-fashioned greenhouse complex.
Orchids by Hausermann’s is great! They have amazing greenhouses in Villa Park, IL. Going there is so much better than using the web. They have so many orchids that are not listed on the website and their greenhouses go on and on. The Cattleya collection and variety is stunning. If you are going to the Chicago area, I really recommend making some time to visit... Natt’s Orchids in Naperville, IL is another great resource. Natt’s Orchids has a wide selection of rarer vandas, paphs, species, etc. Really worth a visit or browse. I can’t tell you how much money I’ve spent at these fine orchid houses! I was so excited to see Dani on Hausermann’s website just days after I received 8 new plants from them!... The oncidium Sharry Baby they shipped me is spectacular! 😎
Prices for orchids today are still quite low compared to historical prices of say 60 years ago. And one reason why orchids can be found in the EU at affordable (to the masses) prices is that plants can be mass produced in southeast Asia with extra low labor costs and then shipped en masse. There are large floriculture companies in the EU, like Anthura, that mass produce phals by the tens of thousands per clonal variety, with highly automated growing facilities that allow them to manage labor prices. Here in the US we have lost a great many orchid nurseries over the past 60 years. While there are many reasons for this, one of them is that a fully burdened cost of an adult blooming orchid, grown completely in the US, drives the price to be much higher than importing phals en masse from SE Asia. The few remaining large breeding houses, like Carter and Holmes, or H&R, sell almost always seedlings, that can be sold at prices people can afford. If such nurseries grew plants to maturity and sold plants, say Cattleyas, in bud then they'd have to charge prices that would be much higher than their seedling prices. Automated growing and inexpensive cloning have allowed the democratization of the orchid hobby. 100 years ago it was the hobby was the domain of the wealthy, which is why orchids became a symbol of affluence. Even today, it is common to see orchids placed in interior design or real estate photos, as a hold-over from this history of orchids meaning affluence.
You are so right and you bring so much positivity and happiness in my life too. I love your videos they motivate me in my hobby and are so relaxing to watch after a long day thank you for your work
I live in Canada and I found the best time&place to buy orchids is the last afternoon of the orchid show (if you are not looking for specific varieties). When the orchid show is close to the end, most vendor will put a discount on their orchids. The best part is the orchids which are in bloom would be discounted mostly since the bloom would suffer in transportation and the vendors are willing to sell them as soon as possible.
@@sandwichesintrees yes I’ve since discovered them and they live a block away so I do local pickup. Really great service and quality plants and growing advice if needed. I also use crystal star nursery too ;). In likely to try 1 or 2 growers more for different variety but so far happen with RO and CSN.
I highly recommend Marlow and Hausermann orchids for US orchid lovers. I have purchased from both of them in person and online, and I have been very happy with everything I've bought. The plants were very healthy and were packed well when sent in the mail. I've also had some good experience with some sellers on Etsy in the US as well.
Hey, thanks for making this video and for the Canadian Nursery recommendation. Your point that most sellers are not out to get you is a really good one. When we attack the sellers who are doing their best that just puts those without good intentions at an advantage. I really appreciate that on recognising your influencer status you sought to mitigate the potential harm it could do. I've seen some plant videos saying that the 'rare' plants mostly are just high demand and not actually rare, like it is with orchids.
If you live in the US, Brookside orchids is amazing! They also have a nursery and order pick up if you live in the Bay Area! They have a lot of diversity online and in store as well
I do have to admit that I fell to the hype a bit when I hear you talk about certain orchids, like with the Bellina and jewel orchids, so I really appreciate hearing you talk about how some really aren't as rare as people list them as. I think this was a very good thing to talk about it and to let people know the truth about orchid pricing. Thank you so much for your videos! I look forward to them every week.
If you're on the U.S. East Coast, Carter and Holmes is a great orchid grower with a large variety of Cattleya and a steady mix of Vanda and Oncidium. They also have regular auctions on their website for unique or random varieties. If your within driving distance, I also recommend a visit to their greenhouses for an impressive tour of their growing stock and to pick out orchids in person.
@@Mel-sv1ux I purchased two seedlings from Hausermann and they are still doing well. I am waiting on a third now. Their packaging during shipping cant be beat.
I’m really fond of buying discounted/decaying plants locally and trying to save them. I’ve only found cattleya and phals locally. The phal I got a few months ago had both crown and root rot and I wasn’t able to save it. :( But I was able to save a cattleya that lost all of its roots using your ICU method and she seems to be out of the woods.
I buy mine from Orchids by Hausermann in Chicago. Their prices are fair and I usually buy seedlings and wait for the blooms! Prices are fantastic at the Orchid shows too!
I also watch Garden Answer so it did not even register in my brain that you were wearing one of her shirts until you mentioned it. Thank you for the list of nurseries. I will be checking them out.
For the U.S. I have actually used orchids.com! The nursery name is actually "Norman's orchids" but the website is just orchids.com. fantastic response times, great shipping (which you pay for, its a bit pricey) and none of the orchids I have received so far have had any issues! Healthy, and exactly what I wanted. Honestly 10/10
Hey Danny, I listened with interest to your thoughts on being an influencer. I didn't think about the hype side of the matter, but I definitely thought of you as I was buying one of the orchids you have shown recently. I just imagined this small nursery I bought from, receiving various visits and orders on that specific plant and wondering: what is going on here?! And, of course, I didn't stop with just one plant, because why not add one item, since I was already paying for shipping? So, I ended up going for the monachica. Now, I am not telling you this to make you feel responsible for what I buy: the opposite! I am just saying this to stress that we as viewers, consumers and growers should feel more responsible for what we buy! I have experienced this myself, with some pretty shallow shopping, fortunately on skincare, so that wasn't too much of an issue. The effect it had on me was to make me more aware of the way I get enthused by shopping and the influence of TH-camrs and Instagrammers. And I started being more cautious. So, all this long message to tell you that I'm happy to watch the videos you make (as well as Annabel Minton's, Deanna's, etc etc) and get inspired by the magic ability you have in growing these incredible plants. Yes, that''s a long message :-/ Final note: I thought that it could be great having a Google Spreadsheet with the various nurseries mentioned by you and the channel's viewers. This would have been so useful a couple of weeks ago when I was searching for a French nursery! Aaaanyway... thanks for teaching us so much! Marco -
I love Orchids by Hausermann and another favorite is Olympic Orchids. Olympic sells mostly seedlings, but they are in great shape. Every one that I’ve gotten was clearly repotted before they sent them. The roots were clean and gently wrapped in sphagnum moss.
I’m in Australia and I always purchase from sunnyview orchids in Townsville. There’s also a place in Heathcote NSW which always has an amazing variety I believe it is called the orchid place.
Thanks so much for listing vendors in the US! Some of these I hadn't seen before. I have been buying from vendors on Etsy mostly. You definitely influence me! :) Watching your videos and learning how to take care of my orchids has turned me into an enthusiast. Since I started watching your videos I went from 2 phals that were gifted to me to 12 orchids of various types. I am dying to find a Yang Yang Blueberry and yes, the Sedirea Japonica has been on my list for a while. One thing to beware of is making sure you understand what size orchid you are buying. Sometimes I'm so busy looking at the picture of the mature orchid I forget I'm buying a seedling.
For the US you can also list OlympicOrchid which I’ve bought from. Their prices are super super reasonable and the orchids came well packed and are still thriving! By far the cheapest nursery I’ve found, right next to Hausermann. Both places pack and ship well and come healthy!
Thank you for the information because looking at some of these recommendations I can already see a major price difference from others that don’t have the plants best interests at heart. A million thanks!
Hello Danny! I am in Greece and I have two online stores I buy my orchids. They both take really good care of their packaging. The Hellenic Orchids is a nursery and Greenmall is a garden center. Both really reliable
Hi Danny My favorite was purchasing from orchid shows ( expos ). Walking into one can feel the air of excitement and scent of the blooms. My favorite nursery here in the Northeast US is Marlow with heathy orchids and excellent packing as well as from Mountain Orchid, only the Cuthbertsonii didn’t like me. Trader Joe’s has reasonable grocer variety phals and in great condition usually, if anyone is into phals. FYI 👀. Think nurseries shouldn’t improve their markup when species are popular, good way to lose customer following.
I'm in SoCal and TJs regularly has Phals and Oncidiums, they have Miltoniopsis and Zygos in late summer (like rn), and I occasionally see Nobile-type Dendrobiums.
Seattle Orchids offers a really good selection in the US. They have sales throughout the year, and a free membership program that offers discounts and free shipping in the US during special promotional periods. They pack their shipments really well, and give you options to require a signature on your package so no plants are left in the heat or cold while you’re not home. Highly recommend!
For mexico the best option is the mexican orchid association (amo), they recomend good sellers and have a lot if info. In my experience orquideas chiapas is one of the best orchid sellers
Another good find is TarzaneGroup, they specialize in micro, mini, and small orchids. Amazing collection and supplies too! Not sure if only US or not. I’ve seen them in orchid shows in other videos as well.
Price is also very dependent on the size and age of the plant. A Bellina seedling will cost about $15 in my region, but a mature plant that is very large will cost upwards of $50.
I'm very fortunate because I live about ten miles from Orchidweb. I buy plants from their website and I drive over for curbside pickup. I think I've bought around twenty plants from them so far -- I just ordered three mini-orchids just a few minutes ago in fact. The plants are always completely amazing and often will go into spike even when I buy them "not in spike". And so far I've not encountered any pests on any of them. I do hope that continues. I recently bought a Bangkok Sunset from Mote's orchids in Florida. There was a bit of a shipping delay due to winter weather but it arrived in decent shape (as far as I can tell). In the box I found that they had sent me another one -- Two for the price of one! The shipping was really expensive but because I couldn't find one elsewhere I decided to just pay the shipping price. I ended up selling the extra one as I don't have room for two of these. I'm looking forward to when he decides to bloom. So far, those have been the only two places I've bought orchids from (with the exception of a few Phals I bought at local garden centers). Thanks Danny for all your videos, help, and inspiration. The Minnesota Orchid Society also appreciate you as I've discovered. I'm also totally blaming you for the all the orchids I've bought since subscribing to your channel! :)
Waldor orchids is just outside Atlantic City, NJ, USA. If you are visiting the Jersey Shore I would check them out. They are open to the public on fridays and saturdays. They also do ship but I never experienced their shipping since I live so close.
I feel like most people put a lot of pressure on the buyers when prices increase, but I appreciate you saying that the problem comes down to hype. If a seller gets asked enough, or sees your video and says "well if people want it I should sell it for $$$$" that's not on the buyers... That's on a market that encouraged random spikes like that
Hi Danny, since the pandemic, I have watched prices of almost anything to do with houseplants rise like mad. I try to stay on a budget, but I've recently paid $75.00 for 4 different orchids. I'm in the USA and always purchase from Angels Orchids (Amazon Seller); Brookside Orchids; Logee's Greenhouse and Orchidweb, all awesome nurseries with healthy plants and reasonable prices! Totally enjoyed your presentation! 😍
I agree with you even orchid prices are going up. I went to a nursery where I live and I was shocked by their prices, a phal was listed as $80+. A small cattleya ranged from $40 for a small plant. I just walked out.
Hey! I live in Miami Florida, I recommend visiting R.F Orchids! Beautiful place and also sales online. Also Motes Orchids, Plantía La Orquidea, Palmer Orchids and last but not least Ebay and Etsy! They are all great. Good luck! And dont spend too much. ☺
I just made an online order! I got a Rhynchovola (David Sanders x Jimminy Cricket) 😊 I think I found some Vanda Virgil seedlings from HDO at my local orchid shop (Sorella Orchids) cuz the Virgils on the HDO site have the exact same tags as the one I found at Sorella Orchids (and the Virgil is very healthy).

I have had fantastic luck with Hawaiian nurseries such as kalapana tropicals, Kawamoto and carmella as well as Sunset Valley, which i see up there already.
Bradford Greenhouse in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. I was given my first ever orchid this March 2022. I loved it soooo much that I immediately went online and found your site which I’m in love with!!! All my friends advised me to give it three ice cubes a week, which I did until I found you. This method of watering is so well known that I feel something should be done by a collaboration of you Orchid experts!!! One of my friends argued with me cause her Orchid was labelled as an, “Ice Orchid”, as if that was the actual species of it, therefore it had to have come from a more northern climate. This popular knowledge has spread like gospel when it comes to watering Orchids. How very sad this is. :(
Hi, I have tons of videos on why watering with ice is nonsense, sadly I can't do more than that. The silver lining? If roots start to die off, people will eventually end up on my videos and hopefully get some helpful tips 😊
Had a great experience with Palmer Orchids in Bradenton FL. The orchids were beautiful and arrived in spike. They were well packaged and shipped quickly. All the shipping info is available on their website. I also buy from Motes in the Redlands. They mostly carry Vandas and if you are only buying one plant, the shipping can be a little high. Fortunately they often have sales and offer bogos or orchid bundles. I have not had many that arrive in spike or blooming, but occasionally I get one. They have a great book on Florida orchid care written by Dr. Motes though and are very helpful in providing information on caring for your Vandas. All of my Phals have been rescues from Lowe’s or given to my buy other people. Almost all of them are blooming right now and it has been quite a surprise seeing what the flowers actually look like.
If anyone is in the New York metro area, White Plains Orchid is the place to go. They have a nursery you can visit, plus a website you can order from. The owners are very friendly. They have an Instagram page and usually posts what just bloomed.
Thank you. I’m in Connecticut, next to Southington. (Called Agway today for orchid supplies, pots, media etc. They said on the phone they did, got there. A bag of Miracle Grow, no pots or anything else. )
I love going to my local orchid nurseries- Appalachian Tropicals, and Etowah Orchids. The best is finding the discounted sales. I bought 20 orchids this year for $5 each. Of course, I need to rehabilitate them and about half of them didn’t have tags.
I know this is a late addition, but Ecuagenera has become my go-to for most orchids. Healthy vigorous plants, great prices (I bought a Brassia Rex from them this spring for US $14 and figured it would maybe need a 4" pot---it arrived as a blooming size behemoth that easily filled a 6" pot and immediately started growing new roots and shoots, which is typical for my experience with them). They come to shows and do pop-up sales here in the US and I believe they also ship (though shipping isn't cheap depending on destination, IMO it's worth it for the quality).
I haven’t bought from too many nurseries, but for USA buyers, Orchids by Hausserman is a fantastic online nursery, lots of variation and top quality orchids in my opinion! Another nursery I visited in NJ (bear stone harbor) was Waldor Orchids, SOO much variety- literally anything you could ask for, and most importantly (in my opinion) top notch service, everyone was very friendly and ready to help.
Hi all ! I Live in Italy and I can confirm Celandroni is a very good italian nursery selling online. I also purchased from Schwerter and just today I received some phals from them. Very healthy plants -one with 2 flower spikes!- perfectly packed . I miss Orchid exhibits anyway... hope this health issue will allow the events again soon enough
I was very happy when you mentioned Laura and Garden Answer. I watch her also since 2015 and I was also very happy to see that she has 1000000 subscribers. I wish the same to you!
For me I've had a good results with SVO/Sunset Valley Orchids in CA, USA. I live in MD USA, shipping was $20 but they arrived perfectly packed and healthy!
For people who like Asian cymbidium orchids. I recommend Tenshin orchids from Taiwan. They good prices for various Asian Cymbidium and neofinetia from China, Taiwan, and Japan. You can ask the owner Matt Chen to look for special items that u don’t see from the plant list. I only purchase from him during the orchid shows in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. The quality of his plants are very good.
There are 3 good nurseries that I buy from in British Columbia,Canada...Forestview Gardens ...prices are very good, they sell mostly seedlings or very young plants ..they pack the plants with care & in my experience have shipped them out within just a few days from ordering. TgOrchids ...also fair prices..they have sizes that go from seedlings to in spike ..good care is also taken with packing & shipping again is within a few days of ordering . The next is Paramount Orchids...I found that they are a bit more expensive but that could be because they are on Vancouver Island . They have a fair amount of selection of different varieties as do the other 2. I mention these 3 because I have ordered & received orchids from them & have been satisfied with all. 🙂
I really had good experience with Wichmann from Germany (mostly flowering, very healthy, well packaged orchids) and the orchids from Celandroni from Italy were also very healthy, but not yet flowering. Schwerter (terrible health and root system) and Claessen nurseries ( very bad customer service, long delivery time and not the nicest orchids) were the worst for me.
@@MissOrchidGirl yes, I have been following more from the background a bit, but would never miss a video. I can definitely confirm that all my 20-25 orchids were influenced by you 😅❤ After the jewel orchid video the number probably will grow. Are you planning any voice chat in the future? How are things in Cyprus?
Kann dir nicht ganz zustimmen. Alle meine Schwerter Orchideen sind in einem top Zustand gewesen. Dany kauft dort auch gerne ein. Vielleicht hattest du einfach auch mal Pech?
Hi, I'm from Italy and I've ordered from Celandroni Orchidee and Varesina Orchidee! Beautiful packaging in both cases. Delivering in Italy takes generally 1-2 days from the moment they pack the ordered plants; they send only at the beginning of the week, so that the orchids arrive before the weekend and do not have to stay in post offices. I don't know how long it takes to get their plants if you live in other UE-countries... Orchids from Celandroni Orchidee have good prices and are beautiful plants with generally two directions of growth (I've only bought Cattleya hybrids). However I agree with Britta on flowering/not flowering size: in some cases the plants are "theoretically" flowering size, but they actually bloom after one year and not because it's not their blooming season, but because they're still a little bit young; other plants are instead fully adult size and you can clearly see that they have already bloomed. Orchids from Varesina Orchidee are more expensive, but they are huge, well established, have already bloomed and always have two or more directions of growth (I've ordered Oncidiums hybrids and a Cattleya hybrid). There are at least other 3-4 nurseries in Italy with good websites and promising photos, but I've never ordered from them.
It’s so true about opportunity price hiking on demand. Definitely has me pass on some wishlisted wants. But yes sometimes passing on one, opens up another fun find. An example to share was my search for a specific vanda I could only find on eBay (out of my price range) had me stumble upon the vanda man AKA R&R orchids in USA with quality plants within my range and wonderful customer service. Totally worth searching longer for a want. Another wonderfully insightful video, thank you! 🎉
Only 10-15 euros. I wish we had similar prices here. I guess it is probably cause of our harsh winter and high cost to keep greenhouses hot. For people in Canada, I can recommend Tropical Garden Orchids (TgOrchids), Clouds Orchids, Paramount Orchids. Roehampton is a new seller, and their price are in the higher end. But they have potential. If you can go to shows, there is a lot more Canadian based sellers and it is always a pleasure to deal with them.
In the US, I have enjoyed purchasing from Sunset Valley Orchids (13 plants), Orchids by Hausermann (12 plants), Marlows orchids (3 plants), all have consistently delivered great products. I am also trying out Krull Smith (AOS Vendor Partner), placed an order just today, prices seem reasonable given the offered sizes and quality of the cultivars.
Following up to share my observations: Krull-Smith in Florida turned out to be amazing. I have purchased Cattleya and Vanda orchids so far, the qualities are fantastic, vigorous plants, large blooming sizes (one cattleya I purchased - Rl. Aristocrat - came with 4 flowering sheaths, 6 inch pot plant with multi-direction growths for only $35) , and their shipping cost is one of the fastest and cheapest I have encountered : $20 shipping for 3 large plants (less than $100) from Florida and arrived in Seattle via 2-day air shipping. Fast! Truly amazing values. I am glad I stumbled upon an AOS article online and found the nursery mentioned at the bottom of the article; not sure why Krull-Smith didn’t pop up on my radar in Google when I was searching for good reputable orchid nurseries to buy from in the US. I haven’t purchased their other genera such as dendrobium and phalaenopsis, however, for flowering size cattleyas and vandas, I am impressed with Krull-Smith’s products. For cattleya lovers, this is the place to buy from! I am waiting patiently for them to release next year’s new cultivars before buying more once winter weather is over.
Umm no ma’am Dani, you have made me obsessed with orchids so yeah, you’re an influencer and have made me spend lots of money, but I always use your links so there’s that...Keep it up girl lol
Knowing a little bit about wholesale pricing, the typical markup for retail pricing is 3 to 4 times the wholesale price. And that’s for common, mass produced plants, not rare specialties. Mass produced phalaenopsis plants are marked up much, much more.
Thank you for this video. Hello from San Francisco! I was interested in finding different orchids not in my local garden center. I will check out these links
Thanks for the info, really nice video. I usually get "rare" orchids at orientyorchids.es, only problem is I think they only ship to Spain, France and Portugal, but shipping costs are lower than the other European options if you happen to live in those countries.
I agree with the giving sellers the benefit of the doubt and also about transportation, especially if it travels far by mail, I understand it. I personally have only bought orchids from nurseries twice, so I can't say that I've got a lot of experience. But the two times unfortunately did not go well. And the plants didn't even travel far or long, because I live in the Netherlands and bought them from nurseries here. So the first one was about 2 days in the mail. From Claessens. But that first oncidium, had a rotten pseudobulb that had been potted under the medium, covered by bark. Besides that the oncidium was not in very good condition, really wrinkly and had accordion leaves. The second time I didn't even order online, I went to the nursery, orchidz.nl and I apparantely didn't look well enough, but it seems that I bought two orchids with mealybugs. I didn't notice until a couple of weeks later when the hot summer temperatures must have increased the mealybugs as they exploded into an infestation. I've treated both orchids but unfortunately I don't think they will make it, they're in really poor condition. One of them (Phal) has lost the crown, it's completely black. The other one has been losing leaf after leaf, and only has two left and only two short stumps of roots.
USA Ebay: Letstalkplants (Catasetinae, Laeliinae) omi1011 (Laeliinae, interesting species) Laorchidjohn (rare orchids, mostly seedling sizes, lots of Angraecoids) naomim320 (Laeliinae) Japaneseorchids (self explanatory lol) Orchid4u2006 (Laeliinae and Paphs) USA nurseries (I haven't ordered online from these places, so I cannot speak on their online experience, but have had good walk-in experiences): Sorella Orchids (Dendrobiums, Vandas, Cattleya, Cymbidiums, Papas, Hoyas, Stapelias, houseplants) Norman's Orchids (PHALS and Laeliinae, a few random interesting species) *Laeliinae is the subtribe commonly referred to as the "Cattleya Alliance"
Wow I live right next to orchids by hausermanns lol. I've been inside it many times. Dannie you would love it, so if you ever come to Chicago you know where to go
Good to know. Next time I’m down in Chicago for work or to visit family (after things calm down in the pandemic here in toronto) I’ll look into possibly bringing one back - not sure the customs process but I’ll look into it.
My favorite nurseries in the US are Orchidinn, Brookside orchids, Seattle orchids and Bombotany. Great selection and I’ve always had good luck with their plants. Also Bombotany has some awesome orchid mystery boxes too! P.s. CHECK OUT ETSY! so many orchids on there! Also super easy to read reviews and search for specific orchid kinds and variations.
I too live in Australia, bunnings is where I find most well all of my orchids however, while in bunnings recently I spoke to a man who is president of Laidley culture centre Orchid expo..I think is what he said..which is on 11th-12th September. Danny I enjoy but also apply your recommendations and having success!! You're a positive influencer keep up the good work 👍
Basically, orchids are either terrestrial or epiphytes; that is in nature they grows either on ground, on rocks or on trees with aerial roots. Both varieties of orchids bear extremely showy flowers and they are very long lasting compared to any other flowers in the plant kingdom. Somehow dendrobiums (dendros+bios; their life is in the branches) are not popular in America but they are very hardy plants, can tolerate long periods of drought and bear some very beautiful flowers. I personally prefer paphiopedilum (Lady Slipper) and their nearest cousins cypripedium (moccasin orchids) for the simple reason they demand much less care and attention; the former comes from Asia, endemic from Eastern Himalayas to China and Thailand and they are terrestrials.
Lucke orchid in Germany, i always get nice Orchid with really good price! And the quality is really great! Ps : i always get surprise orchid everytime i order ☺️
I live in northern Germany in the Middle between Orchideengarten Karge in Dahlenburg and Orchideen-Zentrum Wichmann in Celle. Both do shiping, but i have never tried shiping. I prefer Karge, but both are worth a visit
My favorite nursery is Akerne nursery from Belgium. I also purchase orchids from Claessen from The Netherlands, Lucke, Wichmann and Schwerter from Germany. I have ordered once from Orchid Garden from Poland and will never do again
My favorites are: Akerne in Belgium, Orchidz.nl, Orchidsdeluxe, Lansbergen in the Netherlands, Lücke, Wichmann, Schwerter and Blue Cattleya in Germany. Will never buy from Claessen again. Wubben has nice orchids, but is quite expensive sometimes. With eruflora, Ecuageneral and the Aisan suppliers you can have marvelous plants hen buying at a show. Would not order online.
I don't know if anyone is in the Seattle/Tacoma, but I had a great experience with Emerald City Orchids. I'm not sure if the owner ships, but had a pretty good selection of orchids other than Phalaenopsis.
Orchids by Hausermann is my go to nursery. Great variety and healthy plants. Also recently discovered Gold Country orchids in California, also a great variety especially if you are into cattleya orchids. Normans orchids is ok, got a few phals from them with mealybugs, so personally would not recommend.
I like to purchase Orchids at the Orchid Shows, because i see a lot of diferend sellers and orchids i normal never see.. But my Fav. sellers her in Europe are Orchids Deluxe, Schwerter and Orchids and More, never had issues with them for now.
I lived near Röllke Orchideen in Germany, i really cannot recomment shopping there. Infested and sick orchids and incompetent staff + prices that go through the roof! Now i live 10 minutes from the Schwerter orchid nursery and i can't really complain. Here and there were some orchids with bad root systems, but i guess that's normal when you have thousands upon thousands of orchids. Went there numerous times and even ordered one time and everything was great! The staff is amazing and from what i heared their online costumer service is amazing!
For EU, you can try yihcheng dot com and email them directly. It's a Taiwanese breeder who joins plants exhibition yearly in Germany (check out their event calendar). Ask them for complete list of plants (they have more than what is shown on their website). They will bring your plants with them to Germany. From there, they will ship your plants to your address. They will take care of paperwork for your plants. So be advised that the end price will be rather higher. But it's worth it if you're looking for something specific, unavailable locally or regionally.
I'm out of space in my home haha 😃. I cannot be influenced further unless I start selling what I have and replacing them with more intermediate orchids.. hmmm maybe
I have a local nursery that I often use , Appalachian Tropicals they are amazing and have a buy back program that promotes returning your orchids, if you want to get news ones. You get half of the cost back with your receipt. However I am not sure it works the same through the mail.
Hey Danny, my cattleya orchid was packed wet and lost almost all the bulb's and is now down to 2 bulb's and the new growth is not finished growing yet. The roots are struggling and I'm not sure it will make it. Any tips?

Ditto - live in Chicago, and have been to Hausermann’s countless times. Incredible family run operation.
I also purchased from Hausermann's and I'm in Connecticut.
@@ericafors6039 Good to know, unfortunately I have to research what nurseries are in Connecticut.
Thank you for being there for all of us orchid lovers!
🧡🧡🧡
I’ve never shopped the Comments of a TH-cam video before. But this video has great comments. Thanks for the video and all of the comments! 🤩
Piegao I live in Canada as well and I have a hard time finding anything online or growers in our area. Any suggestions?
@@marvinwinter301 also following …. I’m in the GTA, Ontario.
Marvin and Tara, I had good luck with Roheampton Orchids recently. They're in Toronto, and shipped within one day across the country for me.
@@sandwichesintrees yes I’ve since discovered them and they live a block away so I do local pickup. Really great service and quality plants and growing advice if needed. I also use crystal star nursery too ;). In likely to try 1 or 2 growers more for different variety but so far happen with RO and CSN.
I just want you to know I appreciate your honesty and interest in sharing your knowledge. Thanks for sharing 🤗
@Jessica Chio would you mind sharing the etsy sellers details pls
For USA, I have had great success with SVO in Southern Cali and Hausermans.
Icu method? Can u please tell me what that is? Thank u
Yes, that''s a long message :-/
Final note: I thought that it could be great having a Google Spreadsheet with the various nurseries mentioned by you and the channel's viewers. This would have been so useful a couple of weeks ago when I was searching for a French nursery!
Aaaanyway... thanks for teaching us so much!

They are super cheap but the online shop only has seedlings and 2 inch pots -which means 4-5 years until blooming
Tarzane Group has mini/micro
@@stacypeters2856 They do have seedlings but they also have mature blooming size orchids as well. You just have to read their description.
Thank you for the information because looking at some of these recommendations I can already see a major price difference from others that don’t have the plants best interests at heart. A million thanks!
I used to be intimidated by orchids but you have really boosted my confidence…
You definitely have influenced me to purchase some of my orchids and i am grateful for that☺
Price is also very dependent on the size and age of the plant.
I found mine on clearance at the grocery store 😉
Such a helpful batch of info (as usual! ) and I love your shout out for GardenAnswer also. I love them as well 🌿🌻💚
I feel like most people put a lot of pressure on the buyers when prices increase, but I appreciate you saying that the problem comes down to hype. If a seller gets asked enough, or sees your video and says "well if people want it I should sell it for $$$$" that's not on the buyers... That's on a market that encouraged random spikes like that
I really like Palmer Orchids here in Florida. They have the most beautiful Cattleya orchids!
Here in the USA, I have purchased from and am happy to recommend Seattle Orchid, Andy's Orchids, and Carmela Orchid! :)
I buy my orchids from Gold Country Orchids , Alan Koch is the owner, in Northern California. Amazing choice and very reasonable pricing.
Love your Garden Answer shirt! Found you from Laura’s recommendation!
Thank you for this information. I live in Ocala National Forest. And I was looking for some orchid places around Florida
For the US I highly recommend High Desert Orchids. She’s wonderful and so knowledgeable
I ditto that
I just made an online order!

Thank you for all the info. I am watching you now learning a lot. I have five orchids now I want more as I learn. Be Blessed
I have purchased orchids from a number of nurseries but one of my favourites is Petrens in Belgium. The plants are good and the service is excellent.
I appreciate all the information you provide. Very Grateful!!!
I’ve been buying from Natt’s orchids. He’s the largest grower of vandas in the Midwest! Great prices, awesome home run nursery
Here in the Midwest of the US, Hausermann orchids is by far the best orchid nursery. Stunning plants, great service, well packed and shipped.
Thank you for this info! Greatly appreciated!❤️
Does tenshin orchids ships internationally?
Thank you so much for the different sellers around the globe! There are some in my area so now I can have more than just the phalaenopsis orchids!
I agree on the Claessen bit, worst customer service for me to date 🥺 how are u btw? Long time no talk 😘
Thank you for including a Canadian seller. It's hard to find reliable recomendations on the web.
I might have missed the Canadian seller named in the video. I’ll have to go back and listen for it.

Anyone who lives in Baltimore MUST visit The Little Greenhouse!
I have some rare orchids here in Peru. I love the way you explain all about orchids detail by detaail.😀.. blessss
Thanks so much! It’s so hard to find anything more unusual in my country.
USA Ebay:
Letstalkplants (Catasetinae, Laeliinae)
omi1011 (Laeliinae, interesting species)
Laorchidjohn (rare orchids, mostly seedling sizes, lots of Angraecoids)
naomim320 (Laeliinae)
Japaneseorchids (self explanatory lol)
Orchid4u2006 (Laeliinae and Paphs)
USA nurseries (I haven't ordered online from these places, so I cannot speak on their online experience, but have had good walk-in experiences):
Sorella Orchids (Dendrobiums, Vandas, Cattleya, Cymbidiums, Papas, Hoyas, Stapelias, houseplants)
Norman's Orchids (PHALS and Laeliinae, a few random interesting species)
*Laeliinae is the subtribe commonly referred to as the "Cattleya Alliance"

In Minnesota USA at Walmart at a phalaenopsis is. 11.94 at guertens garden center they are 39.95.....same size and label
I really like Carmela Orchids in Hawaii. They have fantastic prices and really healthy vigorous orchids. Never had any pest issues either.
Thank you. This was very informative
Hi Danni, where do i find phalanenopsis schilleriana. I cant find them anywhere, including the nurseries you posted below. I'm in the USA.
Hi Danny just wondering if you know about the ghost orchid ? Great video Danny 😘😘
Why is my Dendrobium Nobile’s leaves turning pale? A few have turned yellow and fallen off. Yet it has one blossom coming .
Watching you from Canada .
Hey Danny, my cattleya orchid was packed wet and lost almost all the bulb's and is now down to 2 bulb's and the new growth is not finished growing yet. The roots are struggling and I'm not sure it will make it. Any tips?
