Turtle Beach's New Sim Racing Wheel is OVERHATED, but there's one problem...

    TLDR:
    The Turtle Beach VelocityOne Racing Wheel in its current state is a welcome addition to the sim racing space. Barring a few minor bugs still lingering around, the performance of the package manages to be worth the price tag. What I couldn't shake off though was the feeling that this product lands in a a no man zone especially among sim racers. Why pay $200-300 more than the price of a budget DD bundle, but not shell out the extra $400 for a higher end bundle? The lack of a current upgrade ecosystem may also hamper this. Ultimately, if you want a competent DD + Load Cell + Button Box bundle with plenty of customization and RGB to go around, and you prefer to shop via big box store, the VelocityOne may be for you.

    How can you be confused as to what type of sim racer it should be recommended for. The answer is you. You're the perfect example. The desk pilot that isn't going to get a cockpit any time soon if ever.

      Good point but at that price point for a desk racer I’d rather have a 5nm wheel and v3 pedals

    • @azamat19
      @azamat19 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@DJYeeJay well if u refer to the c5, which im using right now as well. That is not a 5nm by any means. Its more like a 9nm.
      Cammus claims 5nm of holding torque which is different to the 5nm csl dd where fanatec claims 5 nm of peak torque. I have had the csl dd as well, the c5 is stronger than the csl dd with 8nm boostkit.

    • @SIMRIG412

      Ya because the c5 has a smaller wheel diameter and weighs less 😂than

    • @azamat19
      @azamat19 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SIMRIG412 nope. When torque is calculated, the rim diameter is put in equation. On top of that the rim of the c5 is 278mm and very heavy as the motor is built into the rim, the fanatec f1 rim that i have had is a tiny 265mm and very light, yet the c5 is stronger than fanatec csl dd 8nm with formula rim.

    You haven't mentioned the accelerator pedal lag. Several reviewers have mentioned it, unless they fixed it through software updates, but there has been lots of complaints that sometimes the gas pedal sticks or doesn't register any input if you blip the pedal, which could be a massive issue for manual cars.

    • @DJYeeJay
      @DJYeeJay  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I did see that actually when I would plug in the wheel the first time I would press the gas it would go only from 0-100 just for the first pump. Didn’t think much of it at the time and I don’t think I experienced it in a race but if that is a regular thing that’s not good at all

    7:38 Preach. I've had so many people try to argue with me about this kind of thing in sim racing, "It isn't realistic" or "You don't need that much information". Yes, we absolutely do need that additional information because we aren't actually sitting in a car feeling the g-forces, so all of that has to be applied in different manners to translate what the car is doing to us by other means.

    Tried the Fanatec CSL DD with the Elite V2 pedals, and now I bought this. I prefer the Turtle Beach setup, especially the pedals.
    The wheel feels nice and premium imo, and the added button box adds a nice touch of immersion where I have my own proper "Start engine" button and everything.
    I agree that the FF feels different than Fanatec's, but I prefer Turtle Beach's approach actually. It's a subtle difference though.
    The included screen in the "dash" is also nice to show telemetry without messing with overlays - this is especially great for Xbox players I bet. I play on PC btw.
    I think this wheel would have been better received if it had a Fanatec or Moza label on it.

    OK. Guys Here is an update on my Wheel. I heard on someones video I think, That a guy had taken his apart and fixed it. Another that when they took it apart the screws around the motor were stripped out. So, I took mine apart. There is some poor workmanship in there. OK. The motor is mounted with 4 small screws and 4 big screws. All were loose, Real loose! After 60 hours of use. I had no warranty So I had nothing to lose. I got all that tite, put it back together and the servo part works Great again now. The wheel on the other hand the top shifters still stick with every pull. I have another wheel coming that seller said does not stick. I will believe it only when I recieve and use it a while.

    I unfortunately had a really bad experience with this racing wheel. I did not have any structural flex or play, which means they noticed an attempt to correct it. Awesome! But their latest firmware (v1.20) made things.. a lot worse. I encountered a decent amount of software bugs that required some boucning around the menus or just plain turning it off and on again. My pedals would constantly keep registering input even when not pressed (throttle got stuck at 50% sometimes, clutch and brake around 15%). The brake was 0-100% with just a tad bit of pressure, and sensitivity curves or deadzones did not help at all. There were some design flaws I found to be something that could have been totally avoidable. I really wanted to like it, and I kept it for 4 days before dropping it back off at my local UPS store. If the wheel is on sale at a really decent discount, I'd recommend it.. for starters and desk pilots. I already ordered the Fanatec CSL DD to replace it entirely. Something I should have done in the first place.

    Funny, you said the vibration motor is the most important thing on the CSP V3, I can barely feel them, especially the brake one. Nice video, I think this bundle is a great deal for anyone starting out. Miles better than a g29 or thrustmaster equivalent considering that you get a load cell pedal.

    • @aaronthomas6155
      @aaronthomas6155 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My issue is that you can get better hardware for roughly the same price or less. A Cammus C5 and Cammus LC100 pedal set will only set you back around $550-600 and will give you a better overall experience. Sure, you'll lack the button box, but how many people just getting into sim racing are going to be focused on the button box? If it's a must have "feature" you can pickup a better quality button box relative cheap. So, for $700-800, you end up with a setup that won't require any future upgrades and is less likely to break due to cheap materials.

    You saying this lacks detail compared to the C5 (which is also known to lack finer details) outlines exactly why other reviewers have had negative opinions of this kit.
    With your limited experience with DD wheelbases I totally get why you don’t understand the hate this gets. It’s very sub par for a dd wheelbase. The wheel is ok but quite cheap and plasticy. The pedals loadcell is a weak joke, accel and clutch are unreliable. The button box is so cheap and weak it makes people avoid using it. The screen hardly works in any games and lacks any real configurability. You’re infinitely better off with an old phone connected via usb and running sim hub.
    They didn’t do sufficient market research for the product. They didn’t know what they were doing or the market they were going for.
    The only people that will buy this are those that make a quick impulse buy in store and end up regretting it.

      I've watched nearly every review (I'm sure there's more reviews now) of this set and there were a lot of complaints about lacking compatibility, functions either not working reliably or functions not working at all. 1 reviewer tried to update the firmware on his unit and ended up bricking it. I don't recall any review where the biggest complaint was a lack of fine detail. The feedback from the C5 is actually quite realistic, which is arguably more important than "finer details".... If I can't feel it in a real race car, I shouldn't feel it in a DD wheel either.
