The excessive Time Spiral: Remastered inclusions makes a lot of sense actually - the set was released around the time of the big Pokemon rush, and being the "premium" set of the time a bunch of people were straight up stealing them off the shelves, or scanning different packs to get a discount (these being the versions they sent to big box stores, which is why they have the paper outer wrapping). All the Targets and Wal-Marts and the like basically declared "fuck this" and returned all of their most steal-able stock to the distributors and refused to buy more to put on their shelves, so distributors were left with tons of these things - which is probably why it's their "chase" inclusion for these particular scams.
i dont get how the big boxes still sell mtg, the amount of stolen packs ive seen discarded over the years is insane. when the collectors were first coming out, i would see almost the entire display all cracked open and stolen. they must of lost thousands. packs are so small and easy to steal, literally just crack the cardboard shell and stick in pocket. and now packs are even more expensive. they dont sell anything so small and easy to steal while also being so valuable, surprised they dont have them in a locked case.
In my early teen years I bought a MTG mystery pack at FYE and it contained only basic lands. I fought with the clerk until they gave me my money back. That was the day I learned to never pick up these products.
You know what I remember? Some card shops would sell pre-made casual decks for like 10-15 dollars. They weren't anything special, just 60 somewhat on-theme cards that served as a good jumping off point. Sure, you could usually build a much better deck for the same amount by yourself, but it was a great way for card shops to get rid of the goddamn mountains of cards they would accumulate. I remember buying a goblin one that had a chieftian, some gempalm incerators, and a bunch of derpy goblins. Eventually I tuned that very deck into a fairly capable standard Goblins during Zendikar/Scars block and had a great time. Good times.

free speech laws are generally pretty lenient in regards to what you can say about another person or company but there are almost always hard caps in regards to libel and slander. Accusing an individual or group or company of criminal behavior is a very serious thing so terms like scam, grift, fraud or alternatively cult should probably not be said unless you really mean it and can back up your statements. products like these and others that professor has reviewed maybe be of poor quality or value and the ethics of selling them can be questioned but I don't think any of them constitute a breach of local of federal laws.

I would grab a few myself if I could find them, but they were all scooped up at my Walmart, sadly. I just find them fun to open, I'm aware there's little to no profit to be had. Though, I did see at least two Revised Packs pulled out of them. Still, yeah, they should be more transparent about the risks.
All else being equal, I think it's better that a parent bought this instead of a intro deck or jumpstart deck for their kid. Assuming that the kid is already an enfranchised player this is going to be a better gift than another intro product. It's not a great product overall and it's cheating people out of a few bucks on average, but I don't see it as a huge crime. No enfranchised player should buy it for themselves though I bought one myself just to see what was inside it. Once is all my curiosity required. But for someone who wanted to buy a gift for me they would do better to spend $30 on this than what $30 would get them from most of what is on offer at the local Walmart. I don't need another Jumpstart or Intro deck.
Fun fact: the Time Spiral Reamaster pack comes in a rack sheath. This means that the "hit" boxes weigh less. I'm not saying this so people will go weigh these. I'm saying this because you can be pretty sure they have already been before they reach you.
I saw on somebody's pack opening channel where they opened about three of these; one of them actually did have a Revised pack. However, the rare was Thoughtlace and they said it looked like the pack had been resealed. (Best thing in the pack actually was a Sol Ring.)
Not resealed but he said it was most likely a searched pack. There is a way to move around the cards in the pack and shine a bright light through the white paper to see what rare is in the Revised booster pack.
Honestly, thank you! Not just for this video but for your channel. Because of you, I turned from a guy who cracked random packs throughout the year to someone who ACTUALLY PLAYS THE GAME. A cracked pack does nothing for me, especially since I only draft.

In law school they use what you’re doing as an example of something that people think they can do to get out of defamation liability. So you’re not covering yourself on the defamation lawsuit front. On top of the rarity of getting a revised pack, keep in mind that in older editions you can actually look through the pack wrapper to check for rares, so don't get your hopes up on seeing anything chase.

I was in Thailand a couple months ago and while there's a pretty good MTG scene in Bangkok (they have like a dozen LGS in Bangkok alone though only about half of them do MTG) but the problem is that they need to import their product and Thailand has a pretty steep import duty on pretty much everything that comes into the country. Combine that with the difficulty getting enough product for the demand in country and you can end up finding anything that isn't currently being printed at two, three, or more times what they would go for in the US. If there's only a single box of TSR in the entire country of nearly 70 million people you should expect to pay a premium. In the US the ability to get the product shipped to you from major retailers means that an LGS isn't going to be too far out of whack from internet prices no matter how remote the location, but that's not true for many places in the world outside of NA.
3 LGS's within an hour of me in Pennsylvania have them at $12-18 respectively. It's very possible to see stores jacking prices up just so they can make money off of their loyal regulars. Shoot, my main LGS wanted 280 for Kami Collector boxes the night of prerelease. They sold every case that they had on that night alone.
@@slavisatosanovic2672 really depends on competiton, I live in Bosnia, only one LGS in whole country, they've jacked up prices of single draft booster from 4.44$ to 5.55$, and any special pack is at least 11,10$. Commander precon decks are about 54$. The issue is that most sites don't deliver here, there are no singles to be bought either. And if you manage to order online, postage costs are high.
I've seen a few videos of this man talking fervently about his passion... and yet I have never heard so much love pouring out of his voice as when he was talking about coffee. If I was in the US, I'd buy some....
Definitely keep doing the dirty work to make sure people, especially loved ones with good intentions, do not get ripped off on this, or for newbies getting into the game. You are a man of sheer will power and determination, as well as vim and vigor. It is definitely frustrating these products exist. That crimped bat token could be worth something in the major misprints groups.
This was a fun start to the morning. Ngl I've helped parents in the card isle before mostly so they aren't wasting their time or wasting money on things like this. Also a good way to bring up the local game store that is literally 10-15 away from the local targets and walmarts so they get better help and product

I like how in the printings listed for Etali on Scryfall, "Resale Promos" is an option, making the foil as worthwhile as the nonfoil from any other set. Seems they've been at this for a while too. You can look up the resale promo "set" as well to see what sort of cards you'd expect to find in these sorts of scams. And don't look now, but 2021's 7 cards have been the most cards as resale promos so I only expect more of these sorts of products to crop up in the next few years.

I am a fiend for opening garbage and bought one of these from Walmart the other week. Got a pack of Invasion! That's like $50! Instead of cashing out while I was up, I decided to open the pack and got a $1 rare. Lesson learned.

Only a professor could take a one-word answer and stretch it out to over 15 minutes. Lots of experience with essays and minimum-length papers. I loved the intro, hopefully I'll love the coffee! The discount was nice.
I've been seeing a lot of Timespiral remastered show up on shelves at Target for $6 a pack lately, not surprised someone packaged up a bunch of inventory in to these garbage boxes, probably where all the pallets of TS remastered went when it released.
I've opened 16 of these so far, and guess how many chase packs I've seen so far? NONE! While the pulls have been pretty good, you're more likely to pull hot garbage out of random packs like these. I've seen one pack of Revised pulled from one of these on YT, so technically they're not lying😜

Old boxes have been mapped, you just have to open a couple and you can know the rares for all the packs. Also revised pack are extremely easy to search because they are very transparent. Never ever buy individual old packs, except from maybe trustworthy sources. Chances are they have been tampered with.
Hey TCC,. I find this selling tactic very predatory and I hate that they can get away with it. However, having done a tiny bit of research on Card Kingdom, to buy all the booster packs that you got, plus each of the promos you got (except the damaged one), you would have to pay $338.95+shipping. If you got all these for $30 each, that means that customers are actually getting, on average, more value out of them than they put in. Now, this doesn't completely vindicate the company. They sell you the dream of pulling a pack worth hundreds of dollars and then give you a pack worth $10 and and handful worth $3-$7. Booster packs are a bad way of getting singles, and because of the lack of variety you can't even really do a chaos draft off of a few of these. Furthermore, they are doing this to liquidate back-stock, and so one would expect to be getting a great deal. However, given that even the boxes without two Time Spiral Remastered packs in them represent a cheaper way of buying the packs you get than buying those packs individually, do you not think it is harsh to call this a scam? It is obviously predatory and misleading, but at least you aren't spending $30+ on like $10 worth of back-stock, like some of the trash "mystery" products you review here.
I can understand the above sentiment, but the Professor is already a huge proponent of buying singles, as packs will almost never give you what you're actively looking for, add in that these are randomized boosters and the only thing this could possibly appeal to is Chaos draft. Yes, buying the boosters might be more on Card kingdom (Who lets be honest, have lower prices than a lot of LGS), but it's impossible to tell what you will get, and the cards inside a VERY unlikely to hold the booster's value. This is also counting current prices and these boxes will likely only ever lose value in time.
@@devinkerr5474 I 100% agree with this and think that for almost all magic players, these boxes are a waste of money. My point was that it seems harsh to chuck these in with all the scam ones that charge 2-3 times more than the value of what's inside, given that these actually give you your value for money, even if it's still a bad product.
My local Wal-Marts are putting them out for $54.99. You got lucky to find them for $30. Also Prof, you should do one of these multi-pack reviews next time up in Victoria with Loading Ready Run to at least get some sealed games in.
Most of the other channels that have been opening these have been getting Throne of Eldraine and Ravnica Allegiance in abundance, where you had Theros and Hour. So there is some variety out there. LOL

WotC is more than likely not marketing these, or many of the other 'multipack mystery repacks' you can find at Target/WalMart. It's been noted several times in the past this seems like what happens when a distributor has damaged goods but not ALL of them are "unsellable". Therefore they repack, and sell again. WotC has no reason to make these products, though allowing distributors to resell them in this fashion probably should be something they look into.

Hey Prof, as a fellow Chemex connoisseur, the 3 layers of the filter are meant to span the spout portion of the Chemex to help keep the filter from collapsing. If the filter collapses, it can block air from escaping the bottom chamber, resulting in slower draw down and over extracted coffee. This is certainly more relevant for larger brews. I'm a new player as of a few weeks and your great content has already made me a better player!
I think the novelty of getting random packs for the sake of getting random packs from at any point would be fun! Though this doesn't sound like its doing it right. I know in a couple of my game stores around here, they would do these specials where they would put a bunch of cards together (like 150-ish, no basic lands) in a box or a brown lunch bag and a couple of packs (with a chance of getting another) of whatever set was the standard and selling them for like $10 or $15. I figured it was them offloading a bunch of older cards, but occasionally there'd be a basic land card that would have like a security stamp marking it with a promise of a discount or a free pack if we brought it back - which was honored, and it felt great! As someone who came back in at the end of M20, its great to see opportunity to get some of the more obscure cards from the past, but i wouldn't pay that much for this "random" box lol

I've never tasted coffee before, but after watching this video I am a loyal many worlds customer. The depressing thing is that for me this would actually be a good deal because my local game store overcharges so much that a single TSR pack costs almost as much as this entire box, I still wouldn't buy this tho 🤣
There is 0 chance that any real LGS is charging $30 for a single TSR pack.
@@slavisatosanovic2672 Depends where they live. I was in Thailand a couple months ago and while there's a pretty good MTG scene in Bangkok (they have like a dozen LGS in Bangkok alone though only about half of them do MTG) but the problem is that they need to import their product and Thailand has a pretty steep import duty on pretty much everything that comes into the country. Combine that with the difficulty getting enough product for the demand in country and you can end up finding anything that isn't currently being printed at two, three, or more times what they would go for in the US. If there's only a single box of TSR in the entire country of nearly 70 million people you should expect to pay a premium.
In the US the ability to get the product shipped to you from major retailers means that an LGS isn't going to be too far out of whack from internet prices no matter how remote the location, but that's not true for many places in the world outside of NA.
3 LGS's within an hour of me in Pennsylvania have them at $12-18 respectively. It's very possible to see stores jacking prices up just so they can make money off of their loyal regulars. Shoot, my main LGS wanted 280 for Kami Collector boxes the night of prerelease. They sold every case that they had on that night alone.
@@slavisatosanovic2672 really depends on competiton, I live in Bosnia, only one LGS in whole country, they've jacked up prices of single draft booster from 4.44$ to 5.55$, and any special pack is at least 11,10$. Commander precon decks are about 54$. The issue is that most sites don't deliver here, there are no singles to be bought either. And if you manage to order online, postage costs are high.

I've seen a few videos of this man talking fervently about his passion... and yet I have never heard so much love pouring out of his voice as when he was talking about coffee. If I was in the US, I'd buy some....
Definitely keep doing the dirty work to make sure people, especially loved ones with good intentions, do not get ripped off on this, or for newbies getting into the game. You are a man of sheer will power and determination, as well as vim and vigor. It is definitely frustrating these products exist.

This was a fun start to the morning. Ngl I've helped parents in the card isle before mostly so they aren't wasting their time or wasting money on things like this. Also a good way to bring up the local game store that is literally 10-15 away from the local targets and walmarts so they get better help and product

I like how in the printings listed for Etali on Scryfall, "Resale Promos" is an option, making the foil as worthwhile as the nonfoil from any other set. Seems they've been at this for a while too. You can look up the resale promo "set" as well to see what sort of cards you'd expect to find in these sorts of scams.
And don't look now, but 2021's 7 cards have been the most cards as resale promos so I only expect more of these sorts of products to crop up in the next few years.

I am a fiend for opening garbage and bought one of these from Walmart the other week. Got a pack of Invasion! That's like $50! Instead of cashing out while I was up, I decided to open the pack and got a $1 rare.

I've been seeing a lot of Timespiral remastered show up on shelves at Target for $6 a pack lately, not surprised someone packaged up a bunch of inventory in to these garbage boxes, probably where all the pallets of TS remastered went when it released.

I've opened 16 of these so far, and guess how many chase packs I've seen so far? NONE! While the pulls have been pretty good, you're more likely to pull hot garbage out of random packs like these. I've seen one pack of Revised pulled from one of these on YT, so technically they're not lying😜

Old boxes have been mapped, you just have to open a couple and you can know the rares for all the packs. Also revised pack are extremely easy to search because they are very transparent.
Never ever buy individual old packs, except from maybe trustworthy sources. Chances are they have been tampered with.

Hey TCC,. I find this selling tactic very predatory and I hate that they can get away with it. However, having done a tiny bit of research on Card Kingdom, to buy all the booster packs that you got, plus each of the promos you got (except the damaged one), you would have to pay $338.95+shipping. If you got all these for $30 each, that means that customers are actually getting, on average, more value out of them than they put in.
Now, this doesn't completely vindicate the company. They sell you the dream of pulling a pack worth hundreds of dollars and then give you a pack worth $10 and and handful worth $3-$7. Booster packs are a bad way of getting singles, and because of the lack of variety you can't even really do a chaos draft off of a few of these. Furthermore, they are doing this to liquidate back-stock, and so one would expect to be getting a great deal.
However, given that even the boxes without two Time Spiral Remastered packs in them represent a cheaper way of buying the packs you get than buying those packs individually, do you not think it is harsh to call this a scam? It is obviously predatory and misleading, but at least you aren't spending $30+ on like $10 worth of back-stock, like some of the trash "mystery" products you review here.
I can understand the above sentiment, but the Professor is already a huge proponent of buying singles, as packs will almost never give you what you're actively looking for, add in that these are randomized boosters and the only thing this could possibly appeal to is Chaos draft. Yes, buying the boosters might be more on Card kingdom (Who lets be honest, have lower prices than a lot of LGS), but it's impossible to tell what you will get, and the cards inside a VERY unlikely to hold the booster's value.
This is also counting current prices and these boxes will likely only ever lose value in time.
@@devinkerr5474 I 100% agree with this and think that for almost all magic players, these boxes are a waste of money. My point was that it seems harsh to chuck these in with all the scam ones that charge 2-3 times more than the value of what's inside, given that these actually give you your value for money, even if it's still a bad product.

Most of the other channels that have been opening these have been getting Throne of Eldraine and Ravnica Allegiance in abundance, where you had Theros and Hour. So there is some variety out there. LOL

WotC is more than likely not marketing these, or many of the other 'multipack mystery repacks' you can find at Target/WalMart. It's been noted several times in the past this seems like what happens when a distributor has damaged goods but not ALL of them are "unsellable". Therefore they repack, and sell again.
WotC has no reason to make these products, though allowing distributors to resell them in this fashion probably should be something they look into.

Hey Prof, as a fellow Chemex connoisseur, the 3 layers of the filter are meant to span the spout portion of the Chemex to help keep the filter from collapsing. If the filter collapses, it can block air from escaping the bottom chamber, resulting in slower draw down and over extracted coffee. This is certainly more relevant for larger brews.

I think the novelty of getting random packs for the sake of getting random packs from at any point would be fun! Though this doesn't sound like its doing it right.
I know in a couple of my game stores around here, they would do these specials where they would put a bunch of cards together (like 150-ish, no basic lands) in a box or a brown lunch bag and a couple of packs (with a chance of getting another) of whatever set was the standard and selling them for like $10 or $15. I figured it was them offloading a bunch of older cards, but occasionally there'd be a basic land card that would have like a security stamp marking it with a promise of a discount or a free pack if we brought it back - which was honored, and it felt great!
As someone who came back in at the end of M20, its great to see opportunity to get some of the more obscure cards from the past, but i wouldn't pay that much for this "random" box lol
