The reason essential oils are dangerous to consume is because those are the defense mechanisms of the plant, the "volatile oils" that act as insecticide and chemical protection from weather, etc. We ingest them in VERY small quantities when we eat herbs, but we are protected from their ill effects by the rest of the plant's material and other compounds. When you distill the oils away from the plant, you remove those shields. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. 😁🌿

The assumption is that you can add a few drops to something and it "waters it down" enough to make it safe, which is not true. The compounds are not meant to be consumed apart from the plant, end of story. But they smell nice, they kill/repel bugs, and they're strong enough to clean with, so nothing wrong with using them within reason. :)

If you put doterra essential oil straight into a Styrofoam cup, it will dissolve the cup in just a minute or two. When I was in doterra, I was trained to show this to people so that they will understand how "strong" the oils are. Instead of made me afraid of ever ingesting oils...
In regards to the "you cook with essential oils so it's totally fine to consume them" thing: you need to consume iron, for example, your body literally needs it, but if you consume a huge, CONCENTRATED amount of it like in a supplement, it'll make you sick and possibly even kill you. Just because something's okay in a certain quantity - mixed with a whole bunch of other stuff and diluted, no less, like you mentioned - doesn't magically make it okay to have a whole bunch of it in concentrated form.

okay ann reardon actually reviewed that thermomix thing! it was totally unrelated to mlm, they were just reviewing it to see if it actually did what it says, and: surprise surprise, it does not. iirc the little tablet thing has to have downloaded recipes in order to work (like, you can't just cook from any recipe), and half the time the internet connection on it was down so you couldn't access any recipe that wasn't programmed in. also yeah, all the acccessories are separate. lolol.
I have a family who got my sister a thermomix and my sister is not a fan. You have to have some type of subscription to use the recipes, idk, but for her its not useful. Also, that particular family member is not ballin, so when my sister found out the price, it broke her heart and mine. Now that I found out it's an MLM, my heart is aching. This family member can't seem to get out of the grasps of MLM. They really need to build a rehab or a support group to get them out. Also, gifting a pricey kitchen appliance is best when it's on a registry, lol.
Instant pot is great for cooking rice. You can also saute things quickly, and it makes really good soups and stews with half the time on the stove. It costs one tenth of the price that mlm was at $100. Definitely pricey but was great to use in college and after.

The Thermomix reminds me of the very good advice someone gave me when I said I wanted to buy myself a Leatherman multi-tool: "do you like things that do lots of tasks poorly?" For the cost of a Thermomix I can buy a rice cooker, a bottle of premium whiskey to bribe my wife to chop all my ingredients for me, a stand mixer, and take-out for the week. I never thought I'd say this but girlie just switch to Soylent.

Oh my days my posh sister (living in Czech Republic) has Thermomix and absolutely adores it! It is actually pretty cool, I have to admit. It’ll cook your diner from start to finish, wash the dishes, mop the floor and walk your dog. The lady in the video really didn’t use a good recipe to showcase it… Wowzers it didn’t even cross my mind that it’s MLM 🙈

I didn't know Vorwerk was an MLM until today! It's fascinating to me because here in Germany (where Vorwerk originated from) Vorwerk sells mostly over their own websites and Vorwerk-stores. After a bit of research I saw that they also still have an MLM attached but it seems like representatives are quite sparce. Same with Tupperware. They still have the parties but mostly it's just sold in stores. Overall you don't really come across MLM here if you're not looking for it! I myself only found out about MLM in general through you and Savannah about 3 years ago.
Well at least not anymore. A few years ago, I was asked almost every other weekend to attend a Tupperware-Party or a Thermomix-Party for a while, and when I said no (i was young and broke) they asked me to ask my mom and older sister etc. I didn't read much into it, but when my mom told me how she pitied the rep since noone wanted to buy (at least from the Thermomix), I started to block every question about those parties. But since then, many people appeared with a new thermomix in my circle. But no one talked about it being a MLM, when in fact Vorwerk and Tupperware are held in high prestige. Imagine non returning your mom's tupperware lol - no thought is scarier :D

Hey cc with the thermomix you have to pay the cost of the machine. Here in New Zealand it's $2500nz and then also.. its $50nz a year to keep your CookieDo account active so you can use the little computer on the thermomix. You can still use the thermomix without paying the $50 yearly fee but you have no access to the inbuilt recipe system (CookieDo). It can cook all sort of stuff from soup to ice cream to bread dough ect but it's very expensive and definitely culty for sure.

Worst flex…. My vet bills were over $3,000 to try and save my dog I lost in October. My 9-5 would have paid for it HOWEVER my 9-5 paid me more than enough to have insurance that covered two regular vet visits, an overnight stay at a neurologist clinic and cremation services which brought her back home with me.
It isn't that the FDA can't, it is that the USA allows anything marked as cosmetic or supplemental to be sold without FDA approval. That is how the R&F Lash Serum was able to skirt the lines and include an ingredient used to treat eye cancer that happens to grow lashes but has tons of bad side effects. I work as a paralegal editor in class action, and I've seen far too many a company skirt FDA rules by filing and selling themselves as a cosmetic, even when they technically aren't.

In the early days Vorwerk was known for reps coming to your door and demonstrating their vacuums to try to sell them 😂

I own a thermomix, and have for the past 7 years. It is an amazing piece of machinery that lasts ages and replaces a tonne of appliances. It also allows me to cook things I wouldn't without it. It is a shame it is an mlm because the product itself is really good.

My mom bought a thermomix about 8 to 10 years back, we didn’t know it was mlm, but it’s very useful to do anything and everything, but now there are a few similar robots sold by non-mlm companies and the bowl is actually bigger for those. All and all we still use it, it’s very practical but yeah not worth that much money

Any non-polar solvent can dissolve polystyrene.

I didn't know Vorwerk was an MLM until today! It's fascinating to me because here in Germany (where Vorwerk originated from) Vorwerk sells mostly over their own websites and Vorwerk-stores. After a bit of research I saw that they also still have an MLM attached but it seems like representatives are quite sparce. Same with Tupperware. They still have the parties but mostly it's just sold in stores. Overall you don't really come across MLM here if you're not looking for it! I myself only found out about MLM in general through you and Savannah about 3 years ago.
Well at least not anymore. A few years ago, I was asked almost every other weekend to attend a Tupperware-Party or a Thermomix-Party for a while, and when I said no (i was young and broke) they asked me to ask my mom and older sister etc. I didn't read much into it, but when my mom told me how she pitied the rep since noone wanted to buy (at least from the Thermomix), I started to block every question about those parties. But since then, many people appeared with a new thermomix in my circle. But no one talked about it being a MLM, when in fact Vorwerk and Tupperware are held in high prestige. Imagine non returning your mom's tupperware lol - no thought is scarier :D

Hey cc with the thermomix you have to pay the cost of the machine. Here in New Zealand it's $2500nz and then also.. its $50nz a year to keep your CookieDo account active so you can use the little computer on the thermomix. You can still use the thermomix without paying the $50 yearly fee but you have no access to the inbuilt recipe system (CookieDo). It can cook all sort of stuff from soup to ice cream to bread dough ect but it's very expensive and definitely culty for sure.
Its the same here in germany. So scary!

That is how the R&F Lash Serum was able to skirt the lines and include an ingredient used to treat eye cancer that happens to grow lashes but has tons of bad side effects. I work as a paralegal editor in class action, and I've seen far too many a company skirt FDA rules by filing and selling themselves as a cosmetic, even when they technically aren't.

Illuminaughtii did a video on Thermomix. Not only is it a crazy expensive gadget, but people have been burnt in Australia from faulty products. My cousin has one and loves it though. She inherited it from her mother and was sad to learn it was an MLM product.

21:25 Soy and soy sauce are completely different. Soy sauce is fermented and doesn't bother people who are allergic soy in other forms. I'm someone that's allergic to soy in other forms, but soy sauce doesn't bother me at all.

Okay about the girl cooking with the thermomix. In Germany Vorwerk also has normal stores and an online shop where you can buy directly from the company and the thermomix is super popular. In the early days Vorwerk was known for reps coming to your door and demonstrating their vacuums to try to sell them 😂

I own a thermomix, and have for the past 7 years. It is an amazing piece of machinery that lasts ages and replaces a tonne of appliances. It also allows me to cook things I wouldn't without it. It is a shame it is an mlm because the product itself is really good.

My mom bought a thermomix about 8 to 10 years back, we didn’t know it was mlm, but it’s very useful to do anything and everything, but now there are a few similar robots sold by non-mlm companies and the bowl is actually bigger for those. All and all we still use it, it’s very practical but yeah not worth that much money
