    Asiatown district could be called Overcharged Eggroll

    • @gooseum
      @gooseum ปีที่แล้ว +5

      eggrolls are part of Chinese cuisine - this area is based on Japanese and Korean assets so it doesn't make sense for it to be named that - it's sweeping three very different cultures into one thing.

    Since this is Orchid Bay, and Orchids being pretty woven in Chinese culture, you could call it ''Lanhua District'' (Orchid/Orchid flower district in Chinese)

      the traditional characters蘭花區/蘭區 Orchid District or 蘭花園/蘭園 Orchid Gardens can be read in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, as Hanzi, Hanja and Kanji. The first syllable/ character being Lan, Nan and Ran respectively (actually these sound much closer than the romanisation would suggest). Lore wise you can say that the area was named for some flower farms that used to be in the area, orchid nurseries were a small part of the flower trade but the name 蘭園-Orchid Gardens came to be used by asian residents in the area and that its the name that stuck. Head canon wise the signage is in traditional Chinese characters that everybody just mentally hears it in whatever language they speak. Its just called Orchid Gardens by the city council and on official documents but even non asians are calling the area Nan Gardens, with the N sounding more like an R or L depending on who your friends are.

    That corridor of square fountains at the temple entrance is a really great use of that prop. Makes the entrance feel very grand, like you're entering a special place. Never would've thought to use them in such a way but it looks great.

    Was waiting for someone to make a vanilla "Asia-town" with the Korea CCP! Love the detailing.
    Maybe you could add the yoga garden outside the temple if you remove the tram turnaround? (if it fits)
    Tamago Town? Or Big Towers with Shopping aka the BTS district? 😂😂

    Again a lovely episode ! I say it everytime I love the attention to details, the way you don't overbuild, the way you choose what building to keep, the transit system... Thank you again and have a great day

  • @hustledude
    @hustledude ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Another beautiful build, my only issue is I thought the jacaranda trees in front of the temple were too tall and hid the temple and when you added the fountains then you really couldn’t see the temple at all, I preferred when you left the entrance more open with the bushes and maybe with a smaller tree. Also needed another tram stop on the other side of the road heading back into town.

  • @KayTart

    I've had the same problem with those Korean buildings on a normal road too. There's a nice 2x2 tall commercial asset in the Hearts of Korea pack that's perfect for a corner. I also love some of the smaller ones that look like a 5 or 6 storey Daiso. But they can be pretty samey if all of the zoning is the same size. Oh, and that grass thing always happens. It's so annoying.

    Whenever I think of Chinatown, I think of outdoor pedestiran markets which... is not really something in the game at the moment. Only asset I can think of that kind of replicates the idea is the fish market from sunset harbor. But anyway it looks great! The Hearts of Korea assets are gorgeous

  • @currently_heather243
    @currently_heather243 ปีที่แล้ว

    Superb build as always egg! Such a delight to see the mixed use of everything together and the height of the towers/assets is just perfection! Maybe you could name it after famous Japanese districts like Harajuku or Shinjuku by fusing it with Orchid Bay? OrchidJuku? It may be inaccurate since the area is a bit more dominant with the HoK pack.
    I really like the fountains lining the sides of the temple entrance! I think you could imagine Koi fish swimming in there :)

Thanks for the fun streams :)

    I wonder what will go across the river from Swark? I like the idea of an athletic park area with some of the new sports assets. Throw in a mono-rail threading through the different athletic fields could look smashing if done right. Plus the new mono-rail roads would fit in nicely. I can't wait to see what you come up with the new assets going ingame. :)

  • @drs2211
    @drs2211 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the low density residential stuff would work even better tightly spaced on the thinnest possible road in clusters than sensibly spread out along the sides of the district. Maybe try a larger square of korean low density monozoned in closer to the temple, with some parks where needed to combat that annoying noise mechanic? I feel like these buildings definitely gain a lot from a more "bustling" spacing

  • @apaku
    @apaku ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think with the signs on the buildings and the variation in color and sizes the vibe is transported quite well - for a vanilla build anyway. I wish that fountain would have a smaller version, it feels a bit too large at the front of the temple. The detailing is perfect as usual, love the waterfront and the food plaza.

    I think the trees within the pedestrian pathway leading to the temple is a bit distracting. They disrupt the view of the temple, especially when you spent the time to frame the entrance with the structures on ethier side of the pathway. I would suggest removing the trees and leaving the path open, or use a small bush instead.

  • @Bunkiiiiii
    @Bunkiiiiii ปีที่แล้ว

At first i was confused by my association of "china town" but obviously modern japan and korea is far more developed that the traditional china town street market streets, etc (which would a nice vibe too). Call it Pandatown, oder Panda District, because Pandas are (cute) thick boys just like those commerical towers. 🐼
