It seems like you took it for granted that the protagonist and the love interest are together but I strongly interpret this song as somone who is trying and pleading to the love interst to START a relationship whith them. It really feels like a plead to me the whole song that's why although she is talking about something that she would really love (so happiness and peace vibes) but there is also sadness in the whole song because there is fear that the answer would be no. I feel like in the mind of the protagonist, there is a fight between hope and pessimism. To the point that it really feels like the protagonist already knows that the love interest is gonna say no, so more than a simple desire, it feels like a desperate plead to the other person. Lana's lyrics very very often show obsession to the lover and have the feeling of the protagonist be damned and things very rare go their way so yeah I really feel sadness in the way she is pleading him to say yes to heaven (to her, to start a relationship). They are not together although she would really really love that, that's why she says that she has her eyes on him and she has her mind on him. She is all over him but he doesn't seem to be showing the same interest: she asks him to dance and she already knows that he would probably say no (I think the whole dancing thing is a metaphore of the relationship too, like "do you wanna be dancing with me?=Do you wanna start a relationship with me?" and even if he says no to that, this is not the end of it, she is still gonna be obsessed with him, she would still dance). "Give peace a chance"="say yes to heaven" (you'll be in heaven with me, you'll be in peace, all your problems are going to disapear if just you and I would be in love and together forever). "Let the fear you have fall away"= There're probably doubts on his mind about wanting to be with her or no and she is saying "don't be scared to say yes, that's something that can cause fear, it's something big I know but we are gonna be fine, it's the right choice". "If you go, I'll stay/You come back, I'll be right here/Like a barge at sea, In the storm I stay clear" This is just about how she would always be there for this love to happen, if he says no cause he is in a stormy headspace right now, then at least you have to know that if you ever change your mind I will always be here ready and waiting for this love to happen, and you have to know that you going through a bad time doesn't scare me, I can be your boat in this storm you're going through. "If you fight, I'll fight"= she just wants do do whathever with him and spent time with him no matter what so if he wants to fight with her, she doesn't mind, she would love to fight with him for eternity if the other option is not seeing him anymore. "It doesn't matter, now it's all gone"= english is not my native language but could it be that "now it's all gone" could have a meaning of "I've done and said everything I could, now all our fate it's on your hands and the decision you take, I cannot do anything else"?/Another interpretation for this last lyric could be that at the end, she finally had an answer and it was not positive

i never thought of this song as if the protagonist was in literal heaven, but when you said that, this interpretation immediately clicked with me. it reminds me of one of my favorite lana songs, "swan song" thematically. for me either the protagonist begs the love interest to join her in heaven or join her in getting to heaven. i find the first verse indicative of this interpretation as well. it starts off with "if you dance, i'll dance / and if you don't, i'll dance anyway" which reminded me of danse macabre (dance of death), an allegory on the universality of death from the late middle ages. and then she says "give peace a chance / let the fear you have fall away". if the protagonist believes they'll get to heaven, death may be equivalent to peace. on the other hand, lana said in an interview that she had struggled with the fear of death her entire life, so maybe overcoming this fear is what would bring her peace.

I really like this analysis cause I think most of Lana's music has a dark undertone, it's never fully positive or happy there's always some melancholia underneath. This song is quite fascinating cause it brings up a lot of recurring themes in her music. Personally a lot of the verses made me think of Mariners Appartement Complex with the imagery and the fact of being the strongest and carrying the relationship. But the chorus actually makes me think of The Grants "Do you think about heaven ? Do you think about me ?" where she once again blend herself and heaven together... it's very interesting !

To me, this song is presented as if the person the protagonist is singing about, is going through some sort of prolonged sadness and not feeling worthy of love. So when she says “if you don’t (want to dance), I’ll do it anyway” or “if you fight I’ll fight, it doesn’t matter, now it’s all gone “ means that if her partner is giving up (on themselves) and no longer wants to keep fighting to live, she can keep fighting for the both of them. “It’s all gone” means all of her fears about maybe putting her all into this relationship are now desolved and she’s willing to fight for their love.
I really don't view this song as sinister ever since I listened to this when it was still unreleased. But when you pointed out the lyric "it doesn't matter now it's all gone", it really changed my whole perspective to this song. That lyric really made the whole song sad and eerie, and I have been taken it for granted because I was spellbounded to the vibe of the song, musically.

But the thing is, Lana’s writing is littered with biblical imagery and metaphors that aren’t literal. So it’s possible that she’s not talking about literal heaven but just using it as a metaphor for the relationship. In Ultraviolence she even sings “heaven is on earth I would do anything for you”. And then in this song she talks about doing anything, dancing and fighting putting on the red dress. Makes me wonder if this song is about that same abusive relationship, before it turned abusive and she’s in the honeymoon stage or trying to win his affection. This song was recorded for both Ultraviolence and honeymoon but didn’t make it on to either.

Hiii, since there are many different opinions/interpretations on this song, I also wanna share mine. From my own point of view, it’s really hopeful and romantic (in a healthy way). Maybe I’ve been drowning in its beautiful melody for too long that I somehow attach to a positive way of understanding this song. I view it as a sincere love confession as if the protagonist is truly in love and would even sacrifice his/her self for the lover/love interest. The verses: “If you fight, I’ll fight. It doesn’t matter now it’s all gone” have a special meaning to me. I think about as a commitment and a promise that: if anything happens to you, I’ll always stay by your side and fight with you until the end, it’s like a “ride or die” relationship and the protagonist will never leave the love interest or make him/her feel lonely. And the last verse seems soothing to me. I coped with severe depression for 4 years straight, maybe that’s whenever I hear that, I always have a feeling of being calmed down and cared for, as if you’re having a mental breakdown and there is that one person reaches out to you, worries about you and truly wants to take care of you and they tell you “it’s alright, you got me, i’m right here for you”.
The "it doesn't matter now it's all gone" could also be that the whole story is happening after they broke, she wants them to stay together but ends the song saying well, idk why I'm saying all this, you've already said that you are leaving me. Like after the whole song she retourns to earth and the tough reality
