    The wolves and hounds are OP because they're extremely annoying. Same goes for Wraiths and Archespores in B&W. Annoying enemies are the worst.

    • @GrubMagnet
      @GrubMagnet  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They are all tough I agree. I find archespores the hardest of all! They can hit you from a mile away and when there are several to deal with you can quickly get wiped out. Wraiths are normally not too bad with a magic trap. Wolves and hounds, aard works well.

      I think arachnamorphs from HoS are the worst! They are constantly moving away from you, they are always in groups of four or more, and it just takes one of them to web you down so that the others can gang bang you. Yes, Yrden works extremely well but even then they are annoying, especially on DM enemy up scaling

  • @ayeejiff9847
    @ayeejiff9847 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    Combat feels nice at times when the enemies aren't all jumping on you at the same time. Overall it does feel messy and uncomfortable when you're trying to do something really slick and cool. It's a 50/50 for me. it works sometimes but there's no real skill challenge to beating higher leveled enemies, u just need to be as strong as them or spend like several hours dodging inflicting minimal damage and then get you K.O'd in 2 hits game over.

    • @GrubMagnet
      @GrubMagnet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree. Sometimes all flows well and looks great. Other times you get battered very easily. This said, I think the combat is still fun and good enough to keep me interested going through the game. For me, Witcher 3 works so well because of the immense depth to characters and the world. It is absolutely amazing how many people you can talk to and interact with. I’m currently playing through again (I’ve completed the game a few times already) and I’m still running into new quests and characters. I have never played a game before where at the end I had so many fond memories of so many characters both main and fringe ones. It’s a masterpiece 🙂

    If you upgrade your Quen and have that upgrade actively slotted, it can absorb up to 3 attacks before needing to be re-applied B-). And if properly upgraded, it will also explode upon being broken (after absorbing 3 hits) and cause damage, and possibly stun. It can he a great upgrade for those clutch moments. Im so used to it i sometimes get confused when people describe Quen the way you did. Its definitely one of my 'must have' upgrades against packs of enemies.
    Also a quick tip for the crossbow: If you just tap the fire button for it, while facing in the general direction of the enemy, you dont have to actually aim. Geralt will '360 no scope' the enemy automatically. Great for just 1 tapping flying enemies out of the sky without having to aim. Once you get the hang of it, it almost feels like cheating. The crossbow by itself isnt super powerful, but when you can ground and stun a flying monster with it, you can then 1 hit kill them with your sword while they are on the ground

      Level 50? Where did you run too? There's the occasional high level character in some zones, but bear in mind each zone is set for certain levels. So stick to the story line and the areas for a while. You'll notice a skull above a enemies health bar if they are much higher level than you.

    Tried this on PC for the first time a few years ago. Immediately turned off by the combat. But I love many things about the game, and it was 8€ for PS5, so I just started again. Definitely better on a controller, but that combat is still unlike anything else. I find landing hits extremely difficult, and any time Geralt is doing his spinny spin attacks, I get bitten in the spinal cord from behind by some other creature, so I did resort to dodging a lot and trying to find an opening. This takes a lot of time, and that's actually a nice change of pace to combat in video games. All those Ubisoft games are all about going in head first and abusing your controller, while your opponent is somehow remaining airborne from your strikes...
    but I'm glad to know I wasn't really doing anything wrong. This was helpful.

      @Ignisan_66 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because they are noob normies who don't know anything about games. Combat system in Witcher 3 is quite easy to master. It's definitely not hard. I completed this game 6 times, 4 times on the hardest difficuilty "death march" 1 time on normal and 1 on blood and broken bones. Skyrim combat system for example is boring tedious crap where you only mash 1 button, block and move away, you can't even dodge or roll. Even Oblivion has better combat system than unmodded Skyrim.

    Whats really bothersome in the combat here is:
    1) Some enemies are non parriable. For example axe users. Parry has never worked against them. And its never told you why.
    2) Using the Tab menu to switch up things, sometimes bugs out and needs to be reclicked to leave the interface and return to the fight.
    3) Many times, commands wont register. A lot of them being dodge/counter attack. Which is REALLY frustrating.
    Overall better than typical hack n slash but coming from the Soulsborne/Sekiro experience its a real downgrade combat wise.

    I noticed that you were using the steel sword for the dogs, so dogs are not monsters? Or did you just use the wrong sword? My steel says "Deals 10% more damage to humans and non-humans" Does it mean non humans that are not monsters? Like bears, wolves, dogs? Im really confused. And the term "monster" is in of itself a subjective term. Edit: Okey i looked elsewhere for info, dogs are not monsters they are just dogs. ^^

    • @GrubMagnet
      @GrubMagnet  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dogs are not monsters. I suppose the way to think about it is does the animal exist in real life? If so it's not a monster. Geralt should auto draw the right sword anyhow.

    • @Phooenixification
      @Phooenixification ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrubMagnetYeah makes sense. Okey, I disabled the autodraw. I found it irritating when fighting something and it runs away or something and then you run after it and he sheaths the weapon if getting too far and then when you are close and want to bring out the sword the auto-draw happens a millisecond before so when you click you sheath it directly after drawing, and then the instinct to draw it again pops in but then you sheath it because it auto-draws again xD Or if you are stalking a prey and draw out your weapon having it ready and just when you're about to engage he sheaths it because you have had it drawn out of combat for too long.

    • @GrubMagnet
      @GrubMagnet  ปีที่แล้ว

      I play on PC. Yes my playstyle is more like i want to control as much as possible to feel like "i am one" with my character. I also noticed that my current silver sword does much more damage to humans than my steel. My silver sword is around 250 dmg and my steel just 60. The silver is probably not doing 250 dmg on humans, but it's still better than the steel im currently owning, but im trying to find a better one, preferaby one with some armor pen.

    • @GrubMagnet
      @GrubMagnet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah yes. It's quite easy to end up with one sword more powerful than the other and then more damaging even on the other type of enemy. I tend to look at the level of the sword vs level of Geralt and try and keep them similar. Sounds like you're enjoying your journey. Have fun!

    My top three games of all time are Witcher 3 Enhanced (I logged over 120 hours on that game), Bioshock Infinite, and oddly - Lost Ark. They have a lovely story and truly epic, massive battles. Im not much of an MMO end gamer but tons of exploring and collecting, the sailing in Lost Ark. I will probably be adding Elden Ring to that once I finish it, we'll see. I enjoyed many aspects of Dragon Age Inquisition but once you got your advanced build which for me was mid game, everything after that was easy - so only an honorable mention but good storytelling.

      Thanks for sharing. Witcher 3, is my fave game of all time too. I liked Bioshock. Not played Lost Ark. Dragon Age I just couldn't get into. The characters felt very wooden to me. Witcher 3 stunned me with the acting. I remember first hearing about it being made by a Polish Developer. So I assumed it would probably be fine on gameplay, but probably not so polished on the voice acting given the developers were not native English. How WRONG I was! The finest RPG acting ever! I have never played a game with so many memorable characters by the end. And still, no game has come close in my opinion. It was a true labour of love by the developers. As regards Elden Ring. It's good. But the story and the characters are nothing compared to Witcher 3.

      @GrubMagnet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      IMO Witcher 3 has the best NPC of any RPG. This said, I think you need to be a fan of fantasy and of RPGs to really enjoy it. I am a fan of both. The other point is the depth of controls and options is huge and I think it takes a good 5 hours or so before you really get to grips with the game. It's also a game you play for the stories and dialogues. If you skip them, you won't understand what's going on or get to appreciate the characters in the game. It's a game to take your time over. And by that I mean you can easily spend over 100 hours on it. The battling is also fun and breaks up conversations. So it's not all sitting watching dialogue but it is not a simple hack and slash game. That's Diablo III ;) One last thing is it does start slow because it's not trying to overwhelm you with the mass of stuff you need to learn to play the game properly. Patience and time is required to fully appreciate it. I still rate it as the finest game I've ever played and I've spent hundreds of hours on it. Hope that helps!

      I just started my 2nd attempt at it 2 weeks ago. I also couldn't get into it my first time. I will say play up until you get to the bloody barons quest, and do the side quests you are leveled for, and I think by then you'll know if you like it enough to continue or not. With my 2nd playthrough, I realized that its definitely a story heavy game, and to slow down and enjoy that part of it, and I've found myself really liking it alot more this time and wanting to keep playing. I usually say I'm only going to play a few mins and maybe do one quest a night, and then 3 hours later I've done several. It can become very addicting once you realize how it's meant to be played

      I assume you are referring to the Archespores. If you are, I would suggest drink Golden Oriole potion before fighting them, so you can neutralise their acid attack.
      Next, be careful with their exploding spores. On harder difficulties, they can break through your Quen and chunk away some of your vitality. Equip Aard Sweep so you can destroy most of those spores at once before they explode.
      As for the plants themselves, equip Whirl and cast Quen so you can hit them multiple times when you get close to them. When your Quen breaks, roll away to safety, recover your stamina, cast Quen again, and repeat the process. If you have sign-focused build, Igni sign is also effective against them.

      I don't mind it myself, but each to their own. I've played far worse and more boring combat systems in RPGs over the years. It does take quite some time to get comfortable with it though as there are so many options.

    One thing I hate about this game is the combat system. The worst in any game ever.

      Lots of options. Can be fiddly, but I like the variety it gives. More options than a lot of RPGs...

    I hate this game. Just bought it today and started it. Battle system sucks.

      It’s a lot to learn at the start. What is it you don’t like about the battle system?

      @@GrubMagnet I guess the biggest problem many have is that you cannot just hack 'n' slash everything in sight because the damage output of enemies can be pretty brutal. So fights can take a bit longer as in other games and I guess this is the issue many have.
      I don't mind it as I like a thrilling combat even if it takes a few moments.
