Q: Who is your tennis idol?
Vlad: I grew up watching Federer, but his style is difficult to copy, so I modelled my game after Stephen Hawking
Hahahahahaha
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..😂
Bahahahaha.
🤣🤣🤣
OMG AHAHAHAHAHAHAAA
a great example of a simple, straightforward, no frills serve. For those just learning the game, this is the model motion.
💀
In what world is that a no frills serve? There’s like 5 more movements to set up before the toss than a normal serve 😅

Coaches must've hated coaching this kid growing up
For sure, I would've lost it lol
I doubt any coach is owning up right now to being his coach
@@PorscheCaymanB Everyone can have their own style, I think Medvedev prooves that. Conforming to your idea of a good swing doesn't = good

Medvedev grip isnt like this@@obsesivegamer
This kid would smoke me, but goddamn he is making the game harder than it needs to be
Yup. There's such a thing as economy of movement. All that thrashing about burns up valuable energy.
@@papigringo5692 Not to mention his back, there's simply no way that that kind of bend is good for your back long-term haha.
His back but also his wrist! On the serve and on the forehand, his wrist is in such a severe position. Definitely not sustainable, professionally for sure, but even if he continues to play 5.0 or 5.5 tennis.
I agree. Also, he was giving way too many forehands and short ones to the forehand. To add on, there was no addition of a net rush for him during the match.
@@GuymelefSangnot necessarily, at points of contact his wrist isn’t quite as compromised as the takeback suggests. Regardless, the repetitions of this technique would force him to follow a more comfortable wrist position than he likely started out with as a junior player. The fact he’s gotten to D1 tennis suggests that it’s sustainable at any level for a reasonable period of time.
How his opponent didnt laugh his ass off 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tennis version of "The Ring"! Oh, wait did you check if his name isn't "Sadako" by any chance??! lol
Because it's a tennis match and the objective is to win. Not to look a certain way.

Forehand not too much better
You’re missing the nice and fluid rhythm though.
You guys don’t understand.. he is just very RESPECTFUL.. he bows to the opponent before every serve!
Bro took the Berrettini serve to a whole new level
Pretty accurate 😅
To a whole new galaxy ........
I feel it’s more “next level Roddick”. That’s what I would name his motion.

This kid really found a way to stand out in his recruiting video 😂
The Oreguy should apply for a special grant from the Ministry of Silly Strokes. His service motion is very silly. His forehand is moderately silly. But his backhand is barely silly at all. It needs more silliness development.
🤣
Perhaps he is just from the Ministry of Silly Serves? Regarding the exceptionally high level of sillyness in his serve he could very well be the minister himself. Respect!
@@Luciano-zy1sy You make a great point! (Not literally!)
This one’s good! 😂
I disagree. That slice backhand is quite silly. It’s hard to have a silly slice, but his slice is a slice of silly.
Can’t even hate on the serve and strokes. Man is playing big time college tennis and playing legit good tennis!
yeah haha good for him. I think he probably does that with his serving arm to try to maintian a loose arm or something.
that topspin is insane as well
He won't go any further than college with that technique.
and with proper technigue he would be propably ATP Top 100
@@Hazz12372 i bet that you seen him as a 12 year old kid you would say that he cant be even NO 200 in Romania, and college no chance..but he did at the end, and probably serves faster than others with "good" techniqe and generates more spin with forehand..
Haha, always with the Breazu serve as the thumbnail. Never gets old. Nothing but love to the guy if he ever sees this.
Even his load up before hitting a forehand is wild
Breazu’s serve motion is literally one I would probably do as a joke when practicing 😂
Thats the most flamboyant technique I've seen on anyone
Kudos to the Stanford guy for being able to keep a straight face during the match
How the hell did this kid make it through all the coaches and people staring him at the courts?

@@whuang03But imagine if he has better technique..
@@jerryplaystennis if you look at him after he toss the ball, his motion is great, like a pro. Is just his pre-service motion which doesn’t really matter that much. Maybe he’s doing the “unorthodox” motion to piss ppl off.

No, it's quite a normal grip but he just does weird things with his wrist in his backswing which makes it look extreme.
Always interesting to see highly unorthodox forms appear in the competitive scene of any sport.

He’s back, it used to be “Yes, Axel!”, then “Yes, Tom!” He’s like the Stanford super fan. I haven’t heard him for awhile.
that actually made me laugh out loud @@MentalyptiC
that was actually so annoying for Vlad you could tell xD
First 40% of the serve motion is just ceremonial dance, but the remaining 60% is actually very standard high level form - which is why it works. Same on the forehand.
Serve yes, forehand no. The forehand craziness hinders him.
@@ViaticalTree ? I don't see that. After crazy high loop take back he goes into pretty standard modern double bend arm with very good body drive and racket lag.
maybe 20% is standard.. he faces backwards and tosses the ball from back to front when he does his kick serve
@@ViaticalTree when the racket drops on the forehand, the rest is all normal.

@@IdontKnow-jt2oz😂
He's artistic. I've seen a few of his paintings.
Jeez! The amount of spin on those shots is insane with the aggressive grip! His serve is indeed unique but after the first one, Max is not laughing anymore. He serves with interest. Great watching this game! Congrats Max on winning
His serves have every fundamental he needs the rest is a good ritual for him. That forehand is just shit, literally the first point he loses cause he takes to much time and gets a bad swing causing him to return bad then hit into the net
that's the most severe service motion I've seen since John Mcenroe's. This guy is literally transforming
He's doing the American pretzel twist 😀
As long as the fundamentals are correct - you can put your own flair on your shots.
This exactly, if you omit all the weird pre-toss stuff on the serve and the odd forehand takeback you can see he gets in the trophy position on the serve and has good rotation and wrist lag on the forehand. It does make you wonder though how he developed some of those unusual characteristics, particularly the serve ritual. But hey he made it to D1 so it's obviously working for him :)
@@DNAdad925 The better the competition, the more efficient your strokes need to be. The question isn't "does he hit the ball in the proper position", the question is "how long does it take him to get into position". The better your competition, the faster you need to prepare your shot. This has nothing to do with his serve where that doesn't matter (although it seems like a waste of energy).
@@cozyslor Agree 100%. The very high FH takeback isn't going to work the higher up he goes. I was just agreeing with the other poster that despite how odd it looks, by the time he actually makes contact with the ball it's pretty sound in general.
Just to play devil’s advocate: you could make an argument that the weird technique is hindering his ability to be even better than he is currently. Like sure, he’s playing D1 tennis-without that insane forehand takeback would he already be on the Tour?
@@cozyslorto be fair his forehand takeback is pretty similar to Karen khachanov, I don’t think it’s the biggest limiting factor for him. In fact if he’s already playing top d1, the competition honestly doesn’t seem to get a whole lot quicker. Just more consistent all around
I love it when people comment on the strokes of someone who's likely better than at least 95% of the tennis world today.
My only comment is he has to like clay / slow hard courts, because anything faster he really has to not enjoy...
Don't be such a poor sport.
Better than 99.9% of the tennis world. Dude's a beast.
hes top 2000 in the world according to utr much better than 95% lol
Is that 🤡 better than 95% in the world?, hahahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤡
I am a European coach, and I say it works for him, so why change it. It not a beauty contest. But that said, I would straight out laugh at him, facing a player with a serve like that in a match, happy to that small 0,1 percent that can, and will.
This is his try out video for the Special Olympics.
Never heard of these guys before, but within seconds I so wanted Basing to win. The other guy could be the first player ever to get an injury from his service preparation.
Hitting style is called “cerebral ballsy”
Finally someone who understands tennis is entertainment with personalities. Like in the western movie, The Good The Bad and The Weird.
To be fair if he starts winning we can all just stfu.
7:26 that shot was so in
Watch back in slow motion it’s out by a bit not even line you can see shadow
@@SamiDaher-f3kcorrect
zesty ahh serve
Vlad Breazu has such an innovative way to generate spin and pace on his serve using that trunk rotation. It seems he drew inspiration from a baseball pitcher's windup on the mound. As time progresses, he will need to simplify his movements so they don't take too much of a toll on his body.
This, no one laughs at the elaborate movements some great pitchers do, but here people are hating
This dudes shots are very interesting to look at. His serve, forehand, and slice backhand are some the oddest shots I've ever seen. But they're consistent and very effective. His two hander looks pretty traditional but it's inconsistent and not very effective. His forehand must be heavy to give him enough time to keep taking that weird take back. His serve kinda reminds me of mceroe's, upon closer observation.
I just clicked on this video to read the comments. It was worth it
His technique is actually very good despite what most commenters here think. If he were left-handed and as buff as Nadal, that sort of spin level could be super dangerous. But as it stands, he would probably do better with flatter strokes against most players. The spin comes at the expense of pace
Nah his forehand technique hinders him. He missed more easy ones and hit too many short balls for this level of tennis.
@@ViaticalTree Missing an "easy one" now and then does not break a player. It's still college so he'll miss less in a few years. About short balls, I agree - that's why I suggested he adjust the technique to be flatter or hit the gym like crazy
Each serve’s a fingerprint. This one’s an exhibition. ❤
Gotta wonder what his overhead looks like.
We’ll never know. He’s never hit one. The ball always bounces before he finishes his mating dance of the male red beaked marshland crane.
He hits the overhead between his legs.

0:01 that is strange serve position...its he's looking for a contact lens thats fallen out.

I'm guessing his major at Oregon is Interpretive Dance?
And why does he walk like Ace Ventura?
If Roddick had cerebral palsy
Very unique. I like his way of playing.
Tennis is a beautiful game
This guy: Erm!!!
I annotate tennis matches for Cizr, and I did a match with Vlad vs Klopper (a Vanderbilt stud) a few months ago. Vlad is unbeatable. He's a human backboard. At first, I thought his serve was just to freak out his opponents, but it's not. He is self-taught. I think Romanian. Anyway, he's really good. He destroyed Klopper and I can't imagine many collegiate players beating him because of his returns. He has the most bizarre serve in tennis for sure. And the rest of his game is quirky too.
Everyone’s talking about his serve but look at that Mf’s groundstrokes. His entire game looks painful.
I wonder if he does the whole routine when he is just practicing/warming up his serve.
You don't get points for style. Hope he has a fine career.. he's fun to watch
Morality:
Do not confuse technique and style.
Technique is essential to reach a good level like this player.
The style is perfectly personal to him.
This player has satisfactory technique and a very particular style.
yes exactly
Love the serve ritual
Textbook form. Great, orthodox shots to study for us newer players
That thumbnail got me 😂
As a rec player who has trouble with all aspects of the serve, it's good to see skilled players struggle too. Women's #1 Iga Swiatek recently re-tooled her serve and she really needs to do it again. Many men and women on the pro tour are still working on their serves.
In addition to the toss, you have to find the right rhythm and timing while trying to maximize racquet head speed. I imagine he tried a lot of motions to get there and found this worked for him for some reason.
Bro has the zestiest technique ever
9:22 Sorry Max, that was out~ Max got Tsitispas's forehand, brilliant

Green guy shows that pure talent isn't what makes you a viable competitor. But hard work, regardless of what you actually work hard at, will get you somewhere.
