Purchased two weeks ago from the Chilkey website, it arrived in Italy after 8 days (unfortunately, the customs fees were very high...). The keyboard is really excellent. It has nothing to envy compared to much more expensive keyboards (and I own several that cost over $400). You just need to connect it, and it’s already perfect. Great sound, excellent keycaps (identical to the $80/90 Wuque keycaps I have on other keyboards), and good switches (a bit too soft for my taste, so I replaced them with Gateron Milky Yellow Pro switches). Personally, I also replaced the stabilizers with PCB-mounted ones (Swagkeys), but the plate-mounted ones provided with the keyboard are also perfectly fine. The only negative note for me is the self-adhesive case foam attached to the back of the PCB, which is very inconvenient to remove without destroying it if you want to install PCB-mounted stabilizers. I preferred the top mount assembly because I like the sound more, as it’s poppier and creamier. A version with a 1.6 mm PCB without flex cuts should also be released (which I would definitely prefer over this very soft and heavily cut PCB, even though it doesn't compromise the sound of the keyboard). Overall, a really great purchase.
I suppose proprietary software makes more sense if they need something to manage programming the screen, but in general, I’d have thought it was more expensive to build custom key remapping software rather than supporting VIA / QMK. Seems like this is much more common at the lower price points (though getting less common than maybe even a year or two ago). Being able reprogram with VIA in a browser is just so convenient. Regardless, very impressed by what’s available at this price point!
You're right to identify this as a big problem area, many keyboard advertise themselves supporting Windows/Apple/Linux/Android/iOS but then only have software that runs on limited versions of Windows. As bad or worse is software that introduces enough latency to make a keyboard inferior for gaming compared with the average 'terrible' $49 gaming keyboard.
@@jasdhfkajsdfhk dang that would be great if so, can’t say I’m aware of any keyboards that currently utilize that function but maybe I’m wrong. I was thinking for example that the Zoom and Matrix keyboards with screens had some sort of separate utility for uploading GIFs.
@@ImOnMy116 again i might be wrong but iirc mnt reform has an option for using it with qmk that does indeed support the onboard programmable screen that that keyboard has as well.
You convinced me. Only just got the Leobog Hi75 a few weeks ago as my first custom keyboard which I am really enjoying. Figured that whichever one I liked less will be a project board for experimenting with other switches at my secondary PC to find out what types I like the best. Thought my second keyboard case would be white for more keycap flexibility as I went with the blue hi75, but the lavender keycaps that come with the purple ND75 are just so much prettier than the white and black ones that I had to go with it. It also helps that 2 of the 4 keycap sets I already own should work well with a purple case.
Great video Scott. When I first saw boards with a ball catch system and magnetic connectors on higher end boards, I thought it was because they were more expensive to manufacture and implement. But the ND75 just destroyed that myth! Now that we have seen these features on a sub $100 dollar board, it´s gonna force other manufacturers at this price point to implement them as well if they want to compete. And that´s gonna be great for us! Now I just wish they brought out a 65% with these features at this price point.
the ball-catch mechanisms at least are so incredibly cheap. They have been used widely in a lot of other things for decades so they're likely just using off-the-shelf parts for those. I'd bet you could go to your local hardware bigbox store and find something similar. Magnetic connectors/pcbs maybe cost a little more than without, but really are mostly just about whether you solder a cable connector to that spot or a little magnetic connector instead. But the reality is that a lot of these super budget boards are being made/sold by the manu themselves. They see & make all these other nice keyboards for different brands all the time, so they decide to just make their own simple design, and they can undercut the price by huge margins since they ARE the manufacturer, and boom they've just taken a bite out of the low-end market. When you really look at the boards super closely you can often find some of the ways they saved money (for example maybe using a lighter/lower-grade aluminum alloy), though in the long run enough people won't care enough about those differences
We really need such boards to be in the hobby. I think they will bring more people in and will make the entry to the hobby smoother and easier. In my opinion, they cannot kill the premium segment and the heavy customizable boards segment. They are just filling this niche that stayed empty for a long time. I remember when the "cheap stuff" was GK and GH and everything else was pricey. It was no fun.
Good one! You should do more videos for keyboards around this price point. With just 75% layout, I can think of the new Womier SK75, Rainy75, Bridge75, Leobog Hi8, Keychron Lemokey P1. Would be great if you can do a comparison video too. Also maybe cover other layout like Feker Galaxy80 for TKL.
Great board, but the lack of QMK/VIA/VIAL support is a huge dealbreaker for me. Hopefully something that fits all my preferences releases in the near future!
Nah I dont see that as a dealbreaker if those aren't available. Not every keyboard should be dictated as viable or not by its compatibility with an input mapper that most people would hardly use.
The lack of QMK/VIA/VIAL support might have been more of a technical choice, since the keyboard supports wireless and bluetooth. It's the same for QK and Neo keyboards, the wireless PCBs comes with their own proprietary software as well. You CAN work QMK/VIA/VIAL for a keyboard, but it has terrible latency and battery life.
Yep, same. I don't even like VIA anymore - I consider it just a basic remapper. VIAL all the way. But it means I'm not buying any sub-$100 keyboards for a while since they mostly only offer proprietary software with one or two exceptions.
Yep, so many choices now that it's tough to justify many keyboards priced over $100 unless you need a really unique layout, flawless quality, and/or some aesthetic or form factor that's not mainstream. every time a new budget board comes out right before i am about to buy it i find something like this and decide to wait longer. Torn between the sk75 and this, maybe even the rainy75. What do you think is the best bang for buck.
It is insane how far the keyboard hobby has come. 5 years ago none of this existed. your budget boards were 300 dollars and had zero features. today you have sub 200 dollar boards with more features and options than 500 dollar high end boards. I find myself using the boards under 250 constantly vs my actual high end boards.
@qirico Just got the Bridge75 keyboard and wow, it sounds amazing! My friend's Zoom75 sounds similar but costs way more. Thanks to the community's advice, I canceled my ND75 order for this one, and I couldn't be happier. Highly recommend!
@@ShahinZ.-cq1ze I ordered monsgeek m1w v3 hehe just cuz it looks crazy (purple one) and I'm just in love with gradient-purple side print caps might end up replacing them and definitely replacing piano pros for akko rosewood switches (they are advertised as deeper sounding)
I would take a Galaxy80 instead over this, although the ND75 has keycaps, magnetic USB connectors and case latches that are very nice. Would be useful if more reviewers would include useful technical information like latency, bios mode y/n. The screen is useless to me would much rather have a volume/mute knob.
This is a solid board for one build and sound profile type. What it is missing is a wired only version with better firmware and the option for other plates. This does get dangerously close to customs. But I wouldn't get it without knowing the gotchas. Not being able to remove that bottom foam is... A choice.
I don't think it is a most buy keyboard. They are not consistent in delivering the quality. I got the non flex keyboard where the enter and arrow keys are silent.
There is no way this is CNC Alu housing... Probably no one cares at this price point, but in order to keep the costs so low, i am sure this is Die-Cast Aluminium. Hey Scott, I want to upgrade my keyboard cable, where do i start?
Had this my cart on and off for a couple of weeks but don't need it as ordered an Ergo, have a Lemokey P1 on KS arriving soon, multiple review units (written for a retailer) to finish and finally got my Rainy75... but alas after your review I have one on order... Great review and definitely an interesting keyboard!
Can you look at the AULA F75?
It kills me when keyboard manufacturers aren't taking advantage of the open source QMK/VIA/Vial software. So much power and convenience, especially with Vial!
Is this board better than the Qk65, in terms of sound and sound development, meaning that you can go from clack to thocky easily? If so, I might buy it instead but I would need some assistance with it since I have neither of the boards.
Mine does not charge but can connect to usb mode why is that? I just cant connect it to wireless mode since i cant switch it to wireless mode i only have 11% left in my battery mode how can i charge this thing is it factory defect?
hello, im new with keyboard modding and keyboards in general and i would like to know is the keyboard really loud ?Because i would like to have a cool keyboard for work. And are the switch good for gaming or should i change them if i nuy the keyboard ?
every time a new budget board comes out right before i am about to buy it i find something like this and decide to wait longer. Torn between the sk75 and this, maybe even the rainy75. What do you think is the best bang for buck.
definitely the ND75, if you can wait for the 1.6mm PCB version then go for it, otherwise 1.2mm is good too
@@nnavu99 what makes it superior in your opinion? I am curious, i want to see if it leans with my preferences.
No foamless sound test again?
I assume most people buying this will prob use it as is :)
Do a video on the BRIDGE75!
Nice vid mate
It is insane how far the keyboard hobby has come. 5 years ago none of this existed. your budget boards were 300 dollars and had zero features. today you have sub 200 dollar boards with more features and options than 500 dollar high end boards. I find myself using the boards under 250 constantly vs my actual high end boards.
Is the proprietary software only running on Windows? Or does it support Mac/Linux?
Can you turn off the LCD screen in wireless mode?
Where can I find the software for it? (the box is quite minimalist...)
ND75 or Rainy 75?
same question
@qirico Just got the Bridge75 keyboard and wow, it sounds amazing! My friend's Zoom75 sounds similar but costs way more. Thanks to the community's advice, I canceled my ND75 order for this one, and I couldn't be happier. Highly recommend!
@@ShahinZ.-cq1ze I ordered monsgeek m1w v3 hehe
just cuz it looks crazy (purple one) and I'm just in love with gradient-purple side print caps
might end up replacing them and definitely replacing piano pros for akko rosewood switches (they are advertised as deeper sounding)
@@qiricothis is the board and set up I want the rosewood and Dracula switches sound so damn good in it
the inflation: im making all products more expensive.
Chilkey ND75: not me.
The price of this board says more about every other keyboard than it
OH MY GOSHH! I need one, the question is, is it better than the Rainy 75?
he said in another comment that he ranks this one a notch higher than the rainy75!
@@theSato oh did he? Thanks for letting me know lol
@@Gearsandco i'm late but np! they're both great boards imo and it really is just a personal preference thing.
Does that screen come out for space for two extra keys too?
What the actual WHAT! 🤯🔥
Does this basically perform as good as my QK75 but with rgb and a screen?
I would take a Galaxy80 instead over this, although the ND75 has keycaps, magnetic USB connectors and case latches that are very nice.
Would be useful if more reviewers would include useful technical information like latency, bios mode y/n.
The screen is useless to me would much rather have a volume/mute knob.
at that price point the board has got to have an integrated keylogger that sells your user data and passwords, lol
lemme guess
gb or "in stock" already out of stock ?
Is there a barebones version of this?
im buying it! whats the best switches right now?
Is there a way to turn the screen on the right side off?
Yes, FN + DEL, I think
The website has PCb options of 1.2mm Flex Cut and 1.6mm Flex Cut, what does this mean? (I’m new to keebs)
1.2mm with flex cuts with offer more bounce. but sound worse. 1.6 no flex cuts. less bonce. more stiff. sounds better
Is this better than leobog hi75 or rainy 75?
This is a solid board for one build and sound profile type.
What it is missing is a wired only version with better firmware and the option for other plates.
This does get dangerously close to customs. But I wouldn't get it without knowing the gotchas. Not being able to remove that bottom foam is... A choice.
Seeing GMMK Pro on that intro list made me spit out my spaghetti 😭
Another impulse purchase!!!! Thank you 😭😭😭
What a gem!
I don't think it is a most buy keyboard. They are not consistent in delivering the quality. I got the non flex keyboard where the enter and arrow keys are silent.
Pre-ordered the blue one back in April and still waiting for it...
isnt that how group buys work
Looks like these are in stock now?
@grimacetv They literally shipped it and not by air.🛳️
@@Keybored hey thanks!
how does it compare to the wobkey rainy 75?
he said in another comment that he ranks this one a notch higher than the rainy75.
No knob is a miss for me. I would purchase it if there's a knob lol
There is no way this is CNC Alu housing...
Probably no one cares at this price point, but in order to keep the costs so low, i am sure this is Die-Cast Aluminium.
So they invested in making a very expensive mold, and they are betting they can make that money back by sales volume.
Best of luck to them! :D
Not sure how popular the Kyubi Kit from Nlandkeys is but if you have any info on it I'd love to hear. Your closing remarks are the same way I felt when I first looked into it. How are these guys making money!?
0:06 I have to agree. I’m Puerto Rican and I still don’t get the hype around bad bunny. 😂
... or people
But the power switch is hiding deep under the keys. Why do people still do this.
Oh no i have the alt v1 but I want this.
although it's wireless and I know i can plug it in, will need constant charging with backlight, but not using the batteries makes me feel guilty LOL
Rainy75 and Bridge75 join in chat....
