Been following yall for a long time... about 5 years. Once in a lifetime tag, you make the experience you want that can never be replicated. Dont apologize for the experiences you want. Game cameras are very resourceful. There is a deep dive for pro n cons about technology. Game changer, but never, its never certain that you will find them and harvest them.

Enjoyed this episode. Was interesting to hear about 'behind the scenes' and the things that weren't in the film. I had wondered how long this hunt was, how long you were in the field for too. This definitely compliments the film and gives the viewer a more in-depth understanding of the struggle, the grit and patience displayed in the film. Thanks for sharing your story!

Almost seems as if this podcast is for you to get approval from this guy. A humble brag.

@@joshshook7567 - “This guy” is Ryan Carter. If you know, you know. Of course I value his opinion. Few have gone through the struggles of this archery hunt as much as he. Ryan has spent a lifetime hunting this unit. He grew up here. Ryan knows how difficult this hunt can be-his opinion carries weight with me because he’s earned it. And there’s nothing wrong with desiring the approval of someone you respect-it’s healthy.

@GrittyGearAndPodcast I respect you think highly of your friend. I guess some men others approval. Some men don't.

Sad to say but this podcast has the most Trophy Hunting vibes .. so to did the first 20 minutes of the actual film.. unpopular opinion but I hope the anti game cam movement on public lands picks up steam and becomes national.. Especially as it pertains to commercial guide vendors.. Too much technology is ruining Hunting.

Totally agree. Basically, imo, theres earth, man and God. Its what gets in between this natural relationship, tech, money, etc that distorts the balance our experiences. Theres a responsibility to bring respectability to all parts of our life. Difficult times for sure.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I’m over the pretentious, “I only hunt for the meat” crowd. I hunt for a million reasons and one of them is to find the oldest, most badass animal in the woods and to match wits with him. You don’t like the “Trophy Hunting vibes”-I might not be the right channel for you. Because I am 1000% unapologetic. You look down your nose at those who wish to set up for themselves a more difficult challenge than to simply hunt and shoot the first thing that walks by? Nah, I give no quarter-I think it’s time that hunters quit pretending that it’s some kind of moral virtue to be a meat hunter-it’s not. I eat the meat the same as the guy who chose not to be selective on his hunt-his choice to shoot the first animal that walked by instead of holding out for something older is not morally superior. That said, I don’t look down on any hunter who chooses to hunt that way. But nor do I have patience for those who look down on me for attempting to find the biggest, and oldest, and most rare elk in the woods. I got no patience for this attitude-it’s gross. It’s where I stand-zero apologies. Zero. By the way, I appreciate that you voiced your opinion-I want that. I just don’t agree. I hope you’re okay with being challenged. We need more honest conversations.

@- Wow, this feels so arrogant to me. If only the rest of us could be as virtuous as you and hunt without any technology and simply connect with God and nature. If only. Your statement presumes that myself and others are not able to connect with God and nature because we hunt using technology? Where exactly do I need to draw the line on technology to achieve zen? Is a rifle too much? A spotting scope? Compound bow? Is a homemade stick bow too much technology? Where’s the line? I felt close to God everyday on this hunt. I felt nature in a way that many humans never do. It’s insulting for you to insinuate I somehow can do neither because I attempted to find and kill the oldest bull elk I could. I can’t stand when hunters engage in this sort of purity test-it’s preachy and arrogant and insulting. It’s like Hollywood movie stars trying to tell working class men how to think-it’s out of touch.

@ - Thanks Kevin! I agree! I don’t want a bunch of “yes men” to agree with me. I want real opinions. So I really do appreciate that you shared your thoughts on this. I don’t agree-but I can always be persuaded by new perspectives and information. Happy Thanksgiving! And God bless you and yours.
