This is my 2nd MSI laptop and you just can't beat the value for your money with MSI compared to other manufacturers. Can play games at max settings at 4k no problems. Laptop fan is loud but that expected based on cpu and gpu workload. The Laptop screen is 1920x1080 so that's the only disadvantage of this model. I use a monitor so it doesn't bother me.
Cheapest laptop with a 4080 in my country is the MSI GP68 HX (i9-12900h model) for 2299€ which is about 2550$. Hope prices will drop, want to go for higher VRAM for my next laptop.

For those prices, go for the GE78. But you should be able to buy the Legion 7 Pro for cheaper than what you listed brand new, at least if you are in the USA
Can you please let me know how your experience has been with this laptop? I was planning to buy it, mainly due to the price point. Other laptops with the same config are all over 3000$. From some of the comments I read from another TH-cam channel who reviewed this laptop (the version with 13950hx and not 12900) it seems people aren't happy with it mainly due to the loud fan noise and other issues. I have also read somewhere that the screen of this laptop isn't great either, with poor colour reproduction, making colours look unsaturated or washed out. So, now I am skeptical about buying this laptop. But again at this point, I can't afford to buy anything for over 3000$.

It costs ~ 400$ more than the GP68 in gentech PC website, but I thought it might be worth paying a bit more to have a much better screen.

Laptop is great and can handle anything however it does have quite a bit of problems with overheating. Im using it for aprox. half a year and i had to turn off the turbo boost which created the overheating problems. I plan to repaste it completely next month and see if it makes a difference.
@@twigcapra. Fantastic screen and colour accuracy, amazing performance and cooling, and runs really fast. Only issues I faced was with the Windows 11 configuration which limited the internet speed in some apps but turned off that setting and now it's the perfect gaming/work station machine.

personally, i would vote for MSI ones since 4080 is much much more powerful than 4070, and the i9 12th i7 13th is not too many difference i know the i7 13th is obviously better but the difference is not that much.
Surely he should just clearly spell out the main problem/compromise - which is a 1080HD screen when the 4080 Gpu is capable of Quad HD / 4K. It's like putting a ferrari engine in a Lada that can only go max 80mph before falling apart. What's the point?

In Europe we have a 1600p 240Hz 100% DCI-P3 screen on the i9 12900HX and 4080 model, mine arrived a week ago and it's great. It has much better display than my 2021 Legion 5 Pro, also the build quality is very good too.

Mě při super battery módu s 60Hz obnovovací frekvencí, polovičním jasem na integrované grafice vydrží notebook 5 hodin úplně v klidu (zbylo mi ještě 28% baterie). Myslím si, že se tak notebook dá úplně v klidu používat na činnosti, které jsi zmínil ve svém komentáři. Ještě je v notebooku plno jiných nastavení, která můžeš zapnout/vypnout pro prodloužení výdrže.

Okay 2 weeks update , loving it so far I only play cs go 2 and playing the game that I got for free Alan wake 2 and Diablo 4 , my razer used to get really hot on keyboard and this thing is as cool as it gets , the fans are really loud but don’t hear a thing because I play with headphones , the build quality and the speed for this price is unmatchable , I’ll give more updates as time passes

That SD Card reader is SDexpress on these things. Its new SD tech that is like a hybrid of SD+PCIe.... Bringing your laptop closer to plug-n-play cartridge style SSD-like removable storage. Might not be as fast as Xbox's SSDs but getting there.

I picked one of these up myself but after testing, it went straight back. I also noticed even with tweaking settings and the temperature under control that the gpu would never pull anywhere near the rated 175 watts msi has on their website....which drives me crazy. With the cooling this machine has it should be able to comfortably hit 175 on the gpu and 55 watts on the cpu. Seems like ether msi is lying, or they have done something funky with the power delivery in this machine. I know it can perform better than it is, but with the underwhelming power draw Its a no go for me.
thats the case with any gpu though. Rated 140tdp on omen also pulls on average roughly 95ish watt. In fact, when watching reviews of various producers I always noticed that gpu's never get anywhere close their maximum rated tdp

The 4080 is definitely better, though the FHD display in this model is pretty meh if you need better colors/brighter screen

When i saw the hinge problems on recent msi I don't know if my 10 years old msi will get a better sucessor. I will go until end of windows 10 support

That SD Card reader is SDexpress on these things. Its new SD tech that is like a hybrid of SD+PCIe.... Bringing your laptop closer to plug-n-play cartridge style SSD-like removable storage. Might not be as fast as Xbox's SSDs but getting there.

I picked one of these up myself but after testing, it went straight back. I also noticed even with tweaking settings and the temperature under control that the gpu would never pull anywhere near the rated 175 watts msi has on their website....which drives me crazy. With the cooling this machine has it should be able to comfortably hit 175 on the gpu and 55 watts on the cpu.
Seems like ether msi is lying, or they have done something funky with the power delivery in this machine. I know it can perform better than it is, but with the underwhelming power draw Its a no go for me.
thats the case with any gpu though. Rated 140tdp on omen also pulls on average roughly 95ish watt. In fact, when watching reviews of various producers I always noticed that gpu's never get anywhere close their maximum rated tdp

Well I've noticed The laptop has HDMI 2.1 correct? so would a 2.1 HDMI monitor be better than using a monitor that has a display port 1.4 ?
Since The HDMI 2.1 has more bandwidth than a 1.4 display port just trying to figure out which one would i benefit from for more visible FPS and picture quality
Displayport 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 are high quality display outs, though HDMI 2.1 is slightly higher spec
