It is important to keep his exact context in mind. Although she may be accurately describing the trauma response, the underlying assumption was wrong. He was suffering due to a physical illness, Lyme Disease. He unfortunately went through years of misdiagnoses of mental illnesses where he was repeatedly told it was all in his head.
Hope I adequately addressed the fact that though my knowledge as a professional is accurate that I still need to make sure the info applies in the case of each client
I see someone else has mentioned Ren's Chapters where he bares his soul and even goes back to a place where he did not really want to go, in order to open the door to some issues around the medical profession and the pain that he has gone through. I would encourage any "Therapist," whether practicing or studying, to at least watch Chapter 6 found on RenMakesStuff. These Chapters are Ren's personal story leading up to the release of his latest music video "Troubles." No I don't believe he hates doctors and/or therapists. He does not have a bone of hate in him. He just wants them to do better. That message is very clear.
I've always interpreted the sudden shift in the 2nd verse as Ren saying "I'm not mentally ill, I'm trying to come to terms with how screwed up the world is and non of it makes sense." Basically, "I'm not the one who is off here. The world is off."
❤Falling through the cracks is easy, finally starting to rebuild trust in the medical industry after countless experiences that many times left me worse than when i built up the courage to ask for help. Ren is a big building block in that foundation. Even though everything he has been through, he is using his music to fight for a better tomorrow and not an outlet to bash on the past.
I'm in the same boat. Ren encouraged me to stop giving up after gross negligence in the medical industry(one resulting in complete kidney failure and rhabdo). I've fired my doctors and moving on to the next. Medicaid doesn't provide the quality of Dr a disabled person needs(physically and mentally). The system and lack of care has ruined my life for the past 15 yrs. It's not how I FELT about the industry, it's how it IS. Naivety towards this issue keeps us in the shackles. 💜💜💜
Ren explained in the missing "Chapters" 1-8. If he didn't fight for his own solutions of what was actually wrong with him and listened to the doctors he was positive he would of been sectioned/put into a mental facility and fed drugs he didn't even need. It would of exasperated his physical condition likely not finding out it was Lyme disease.
@@Therapy2Day Great point and many people in all professions will tell you that nobody cares more about your own well-being than you and maybe your significant other. 😊

The riff - loud, sudden, immediate; nearly drowning out the medical professional - very unsettling. Add the unstable table filled with coping - coffee, cigs, drugs - and the children's song seeking a way out. Yeah... hits hard.

I think it’s always important to remember that Ren isn’t against medication or all health professionals, but he is very much against doctors or therapists who don’t listen to their patients or really try to figure out the underlying cause but instead just prescribe pills. He got misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder after a one page questionnaire and met a lot of doctors who treated him like a hypochondriac. Also my guess is that the words by the female character here is things he has literally been told when it’s a female voice and when she is lip syncing to his voice it is an interpretation of the way he was treated, as (hopefully) no one would actually say those words outright and with that attitude. I understand that resources don’t always allow health care professionals to devote as much time to each patient as they might want to, but still. As Ren says in his 1 mil subscribers video, it is the duty of the medical industry to do better so less people fall through the cracks. Hopefully songs like this and Troubles as well as the 8 chapters telling his story will help push for change. For more Ren, I highly recommend Crutch feat. Bibi, Chalk Outlines (live) with Chinchilla, Seven Sins, and Lost All Faith. Just to name a few 😅 Anyway thank you for being aware that patients might not always show how they’re actually feeling and that you might need to dig a little deeper. I have definitely had times seeing psychiatrists or psychologists where it becomes difficult to open up because they say something like “you look like you’re doing well today” when I enter the room with a smile on my face even if that’s just how I greet people. I guess it can be problematic to be too friendly…
Yes absolutely, this video needs to be a reminder for medical professionals to collaborate with clients, because we aren't the ones living their lives. And also, yes, I try not to assume how someone is doing and let them tell me. If something doesn't seem to match, however, I may bring up that they were looking smiley but are saying they are doing terribly, and let them explain the apparent contradiction. I try not to assume.
@@Therapy2DayI've seen someone comment before about how once something gets stated in your medical file, everyone who looks at it after, takes it as fact and doesn't question it.
