    I got to hang with Floyd a little circa 1975 in Seattle when he was lead singer in a band named Oasys with the late Mark von Beck, a pioneer Seattle shredder in the 70's. I remember the band played a gig on one of the islands up here, a bar called something like the Cozy Corner right off the ferry terminal. He was crafting the whammy back then, but had not made it big yet. I bet he still remembers those days, especially von Beck.

    Stylus Pick was a picking hand speed aid. A pick with a conical tip that would basically 'choke' up on the string if you let the tip dip too far between the strings. Designed to train you to use only the very tip of your pick. They were sold in guitar stotres and guitar mag mail order back in the 90s. I still have a couple.

    Thanks for this Tim... I get so tired of people bashing Floyd Rose because frankly, they are just to lazy to learn how to adjust them. I started off on a fixed bridge...then went to a Kahler... Finally got a guitar with a Floyd and every guitar since has a Floyd... I hope to get to try one of these i hope they are available either on relatively affordable guitars or as a stand alone upgrade... What i think would be very cool is if using a clear acrylic "hump" and some kind of finish friendly adhesive could be added to almost any guitar or pickguard.

    I remember writing a letter to Floyd after reading a Guitar Player article on Randy Hansen who I think (Don't quote me on this) was the first one to acquire a Floyd Rose? Anyway, Floyd said yeah, I can sell you one but it has to be installed by a licensed tech. Took my guitar to Wurlitzer's in Boston and had it installed properly. I think it was one of the first ones he was machining in his garage or something. No fine tuners. Didn't even say Floyd Rose on it. Once tuned properly, I could do about 2 weeks worth of gigs before having to tune again. Such an amazing and revolutionary product! Still have it, just not mounted on any guitar right now.

  • @rogerweafer2179
    @rogerweafer2179 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This looks like a very comfortable and fast guitar! The absense of the middle pick up would leave LOTS of room for palm muting and Right Hand speed positions. It's not just your left hand that has to move,but your Right Hand moves continually in that area for speed.The "flush Mounted" bridge FINALLY allows the Right Hand to rest comfortably near the strings without arching the wrist over the guitar, and proves the "initial" in-compatability with ALL Top Mounted "Floyds" where the neck MUST be slanted in the pocket to bring the strings closer to the neck on the bridge end! Looks like those Frets were given a good "working over" for the neck to be so straight (flat). The man has been busy!

    What a pleasure and an honor to see such a great man and inventor, one of the best parts of guitar history and innovations of all time, the ability to dive bomb and return in tune,plus the micro tuners,let's not forget that aspect of one the greatest inventions of our generation, from a truly humble genius,who isn't done making the guitars of our dreams,thanks so much for your time Floyd and cudos Tim, a legend recently stated that all the possibilities of the guitar have been exhausted, sorry but you just smacked that theory right upside the head, Mr Rose,and remember it's not how fast you can play, but how many riffs you can get to stay, in the hearts and minds of the listeners,kids today are so fortunate to have these tools to learn with today, we had to do it all the hard way, pop music is the worst vacation the music industry ever took, now back to the guitar🎸BINGO😊👍

    I look forward to your videos every time. This one was particularly fun to watch. I’m not good enough to deal with all of the things that make a guitar with a Floyd worth it because of my skill level as a player, so I like a hard tail guitar. Pick handling is my nemesis. I don’t care what I do, I get pick spin. Gorilla Snot seems to be best right now. Now I believe that the forward cant that my teacher has me use to combat my deep picking is a huge part of that problem. Cool vision on Floyd’s part to fight it by design. Still not sure that I need a guitar with the trem to get the help, but love the idea! Thanks for the awesome video and chance to meet Floyd Rose. Practice, practice, practice.

    I used to have an HSH Ibanez s570 that was similar to this, everything was so close to the strings that the pick couldn’t fall very far underneath the string, and as a result, it played very fast like this.

    What an interesting guy. And I think he's right about players digging in too much with the pick. Sort of the flip slide of the Stylus pick, but Floyd's solution looks like a lot more fun! I hope he licenses this new invention, because my needs are not such that I will deal with a locking nut.

    Always great videos and I’ve loved your playing for years 👍👍 Floyd is one of the guitar world’s great inventors!!
    Bass players have had something like this for ages, Either they play over the pickups to stop their fingers going too far under the strings and slowing them down, or have a wooden ‘ramp’ when the pickups aren’t under the hand. I switched to a bass where there was no pickups under my hand in the late 80s, so I took the side of a small, thick plastic medicine bottle which was kinda pickup size and glued that to the bass!! It was just too weird to play without anything under the strings 😂 I didn’t invent it at all, just came up with my own solution! Now ‘ramps’ are retrofitted to basses out of ebony or whichever wood matches the bass.
    I’m amazed that blend pots aren’t as prevalent on electric guitars as they are on electric basses!

    I hope that guitar makers add this as an option to new guitar builds!
